PROG ROCK THREAD!

PROG ROCK THREAD!

Pretentious fucks, come on in! Lets bask in our own self righteousness because we listen to music with psudo-deep lyrics and 20 minute song lengths!

But seriously, I need to expand my prog rock collection. Help me out.

yes but self aware and ironic this

Most recent-ish prog group I got into is Dungen, they're awesome, check them out.

Also King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, but they're a bit too lo fi to qualify as prog

20 minutes? Amatuer

>album isn't just two parts of a whole song like TAAB 1
What the fuck Ian

That album has two ~20min songs, though

i have thick as a brick on vinyl but never gave it a listen. found something to do tonight

youtube.com/watch?v=M9JEPeeohYs

Are you just gonna post full albums and nothing else for the whole thread?

shit quality audio but still good

Finally listening to this.
Saw the cover 50 times but I only learned the other day that it wasn't edgy punk rock.
Doing it now. Wish me luck.

Its good stuff. very toight

Oh hey, I just put this on
youtube.com/watch?v=WFDrpT1tq-s

I just found this the other day. Its very new to me too. You'll like it.

pretty sure its only in two parts so it could be produced on vinyl

But what does Sup Forums think about Pink Floyd?

a classic one
youtube.com/watch?v=WKNOlDtZluU

this one isn't prog but it's worth checking out
youtube.com/watch?v=JLCZG9TA29Q

overrated but still good
early material = pretty good
mid career = really good
late career = eh

Props to this guy

Remember rule #1 of /prog/: No metal allowed
youtube.com/watch?v=c9tDPAzKGjw

4 minutes in. Its okay but its not blowing me away. Does it get better?

At least make it to 11:58
That album is a lot more catchy than it comes off as. You've got to let it grow on you, that album is definitely one of my favorites of prog rock.

It's one of the greatest albums of all time, so enjoy

its getting better.

Been really into Keith Emerson and his work with The Nice/ELP lately.

Am I the only one who thinks Thick as a Brick is pretty mediocre? The first half is actually good, but the second half really does feel like it was rushed to completion in the studio and sounds bland to me.

Second half is kinda shit desu
I know the entire first half by heart at this point but I've only really listened through the second half all the way maybe 3 times?
I like the intro on the second half though.

ARE YOU WAITING FOR THE STREETCAR
ARE YOU WAITING FOR THE STREETCAR
ARE YOU WAITING FOR THE STREETCAR
ARE YOU WAITING FOR THE STREETCAR
ARE YOU WAITING FOR THE STREETCAR

So close to satan get.

QUINTS

drummer looks a lot like jerry garcia

God damn it
I should have said something about Brian Wilson being fine

its all good. quints are quints

bumping

>ohh no! we're on page three
>better bump this thread! wouldn't want it to die!

thanks for the bump

Anyone know a band where the drummer actually can play a solid phi:pi polyrhythm where one of the rhythms is in 23/32 odd time

People poo-poo on ELP, but man I think Tarkus is a helluva song.

why is hot rats considered prog? Is it the weird instrumentation? Maybe I'm used to prog in the vein of king crimson and pink floyd, I'm pretty pleb when it comes to prog 2bh.

That and the arrangements and unconventional recording techniques.

even joanna newsom is prog but Sup Forums likes to tack on the -rock meme at the end of prog

MORE KING CRIMSON

FUCKING WAYNES WORLD MEME

i mean technically Hot Rats is more jazz than prog but it's about as prog as Zappa gets
i always find the best way to define prog rock is to say "it's like you write three different songs and then mush them all into the same track with bridges between them that aren't jarring".
basically, rock but the song doesn't retain the same melody, or at least it doesn't showcase the standard way to write a rock song.
course you could argue that the use of certain instruments like the mellotron auto makes a song prog rock but really an instrument is just an instrument, no matter how much it's used in a specific genre
joanna newsom is more folk rock than prog mate

You guys notice that Fripp finally allowed the official youtube channel to host King Crimson studio tracks?

youtube.com/watch?v=J1JjOpXsJ7A

>album isn't a single song split into four parts on two discs

God fucking damn it
King Crimson is why I started downloading music in the first place, so that I could listen to their music
Complete music folder is kinda tiny (21 GBs)
I mean, not that this channel isn't hype as fuck, I'm really happy learning of this finally existing but c'mon

terrible as shit cover though

Well that was worth my time and then some. Gonna listen again in the morning.
