Folk-influnced indie rock. Comfy well-written songs about heartbreak, longing, love, lamenting, etc. I highly recommend it

Is the avenged sevenfold album actually good???

>Avenged Sevenfold

How about you kill yourself, faggot?

nOBODy FUCKNGIN CARES

>Nick Cave 7.6

that album is gorgeous both musically and lyrically. I cannot think of a single weak track on it, let alone a single weak second of music. Why would you think it's a 7.6?

tHIS IS JUST PITCHFORK REVIEWS right?

I can't stop listening to this. Spiral of ants is my favorite song on the album

A7X is one of my favorite bands. I do think it's a very good record. If you dig heavy metal and prog metal, in the vein of a kind of King Diamond/Dream Theater mash, check it out. It's got some great lyrics and compositionally it's really impressive some of the tricks they employ with placing blue notes and sequencing.

It is a hefty 77 minutes though, so if you were to listen to a few songs to try it out I'd say gove Angels, Paradigm, and Sunny Disposition a shot and see what you think of it
Did you even listen to it?
That could be said of the entire website of Sup Forums
That's a very high score for me. I think my big problems with it were similar to those with Push The Sky Away: dynamically it offered little variety(I would've loved some kind of tearjerking climax but really the whole album is minimalistic) and while the lyrics are undeniable some of the phrasing and timing seems off to me, which is certainly in part to how sparse the instrumentals are. I've only given it 3 listens and am sure to give more, but that's where I stand for now.
Why say that? I don't ever go on p4k but I know that they've never even reviewed a7x

I earned my life is mine. The fucking flutes in that song get my dick so hard.

1. David Bowie - Blackstar
2. Nick Cave - Skeleton Tree
3. The Drones - Feelin' Kinda Free
4. Anna Meredith - Varmints
5. TV Girl - Who Really Cares
6. Lambchop - FLOTUS
7. American Trappist - S/T
8. Jerry Joseph - By the Time Your Rocket Gets to Mars
9. Xiu Xiu - Plays the Music of Twin Peaks
10. Andrew Bird - Are You Serious

Pretty good year I'd say. Discovered a lot of artists and bands that I now love. 2017 might be better considering some artists who haven't released anything in a few years.

my top for the year
1. kanye west
2. rodium
3. the ramones
4. the death grips
5. the adolescents
6. the niggas
8. rollerkarts

>JESUSSSSS CHRISSSSTT
That song as well. Plus Cabinet Man, Eight Wonder, No eyed girl and soft fuzzy man.
Neil is so cute

i would put the niggas much higer up this year because they made some great songs such as "gun ass"

Fair enough, I suppose you have your reasons. But I would suggest that there is a definite climax with the last three tracks. His delivery throughout most of the album until I Need You is very low, almost empty and drained. Then, on I Need You he really lets loose, giving one of the most stunning vocal performances in my recent memory. The instrumental follows suit and has a lot more colour then the barren and desolate first five tracks. To me, especially in the wake of his sons' death, the first five tracks represent him in shock, coming to terms with the tragedy, and then on the last three tracks it hits him, and this is represented by his increased vocal passion and the instrumentals increased melodicism.

I could kind of see where you are coming from with the phrasing but that never bothered me. Maybe it's just because I'm a huge Nick Cave fanboy but for me this is a landslide AOTY and possibly my album of the decade. I've never heard an album better represent such emotional desolation. I think it competes with his best work. I don't know. Maybe keep that in mind for your next listen though.

That American Trappist album is pretty good, but I feel like it has an incredibly weak second half

I think the first part isn't as good honestly. I'm used to listening to it as 3 EPs (and I'm pissed that I bought the three separately for $5 more than the entire album ended up costing like a week before the entire album was available) and the On the River Toms part is the best imo. I don't get the hate for the HFT part. Sure, it's less folky than the other parts but a few of the songs are catchy as fuck. And I liked RCE's last album which I think it mostly resembles.

>aoty
The Astonishing

>runner up
Miranda Lambert

>honorable mention
Child Bite - Negative Noise

gun ass contrived piece of shit, rollerkarts "julius dog" is superior in doom reggae songs this year

Oh no don't get me wrong there certainly IS a climax, sorry I meant like a dynamic instrumental climax, something much more maximal and cinematic. I completely agree with your points and I Need You is incidentally my favorite song on it. That vocal inflection just sounds like he's crying. It's devastating. I'll keep in mind your thoughts for the next listen though, thanks. Maybe if I get past that expectation I'll find it a better record
I'm not calling it an objectively bad record or anything, but you have so many great records in that collection. What made The Astonishing stand out so much?

I am a meme
I didn't even really like the pisaro that much compared to plenty of other stuff I've heard from him desu, it was just actually interesting in contrast to so much other new stuff I tried to listen to this year

Over 2 hours of solid quality over a range of styles including prog craziness. Inherently it's not that much better if even better at all than a lot of albums this year but the length easily puts it over the top.

The same principle basically applies to Miranda Lambert

you are a fucking retard if you think that rodium's retarded songwriting is anything special.
>"my dick doesn't look like a dick my face looks like a dick"
>are you fucking kidding me?

Distant Sky is one of my favorite duets of all time. So so beautiful.
