Found footage is one of the worst thing that happened to film making. Nobody tires to make a sense in the movie when and what to film; people holding on to cameras in situations when they should run for their life or when recording would be totally inappropriate or even considered rude or autistic.
There's more, but the point is, ff is cheap, lazy and bad.

I agree with this most of time, but it's like most things. It was effectively used as part of the story in shit like Blair Witch and REC and made their films scarier. But now it's used because its cheaper like in Unfriended, The Devil Inside and The Gallows.
V/H/S 2 has a really good use of it in the second one about the cult, but then does a master class in why it's horrific in the final bit about aliens with the constant pointing at the floor, "we don't need to have good acting or designs if the camera never focuses", blurred sounds, I'm twelve and my friends just been killed yet I'm still rolling the fucking camera"

Watched the Possession of Michael King recently. There is a scene where the guy filming just stands there filming while his friend is attacked by two crazy people and he literally does nothing but stand there going "get off him! leave him alone!!!"
Same in the Marked Ones. Guys friend gets jumped and is being beaten up, camera man just stands there shouting "leave him alone guys!". Doesn't even try to help his friend.
I stopped watching PA after the third one because 2 and 3 were really weak, but I want to watch 4 for this qt. Is it worth it?

I know it's shit, but I still love it. I wouldn't recommend VHS to anyone looking for a good horror film, but it will always be one of my favourites.
I think it's because the actual found footage style tricks my retarded subconscious brain into being more immersed in everything that's happening. Horror films shot in a regular style don't have the same capacity to scare me, because I know it's all pretend even on a subconscious level.
Found footage films always disturb me way more than your average horror film.
Found footage isn't shit. It's just that the low budget of found footage inevitably leads to a lot of shit due to the low barrier of entry filmmaking. When done properly, found footage is engaging, immersive, and just as good as any regular film.

That's because it just feels more real. I would love if people put more money into found footage projects and made some really good ones for a couple of million each.
Those are just two examples off the top of my head.
But you see it in almost all found footage films. People filming beyond the point that anyone would keep filming.
At least some of them try to explain it by having them use the nightvision mode, or like that one alien film where it's a kid with autism and filming things is how he copes with the world.

I really liked As Above So Below, the fact that it touched on alchemy and occult themes, as well as the creepy bits once they reach "Hell" made it a very memorable found footage film.

yeah, shit like this almost never works in FF movies. In regular movies you cant be sure what exactly is going on, but here you have "video evidence" of the ghost shit being a physical thing

No it was about exorcisms. This trope is cool tho, glad someone else noticed how unnerving it is for the killer to literally use the viewer to commit a crime and included it in another feature. It's something that I'm surprised it took so long to be introduced into the genre.
As Above So Below and The Tunnel are the only found footage films I've ever liked.
1. The found footage meme actually makes sense in regards to the story, and doesn't seem shoehorned in. Plus, everyone has a camera so still you get different shots without needed to do tons of short timejumps
2. The idea of exploring ancient tunnels/crypts/ruins is one of my biggest phobias.
