Happy Birthday Tom Waits

As a celebration of one of the best musicians still alive today it's time for a thread about him.

Favorite album? Song?

Best album btw

Starving in the belly of a whale

...

I'm partial to pic related. 29 Dollars is probably my favorite song. Either that or Baby Gonna Leave Me from Real Gone.

"Anywhere I lay my head" is the most beautiful song ever made.

I really like Burma shave desu

Beautiful lyrics

Young Tom

Waits is a lot like Nick Cave in that everyone seems to have their own favorites when it comes to their albums

Forgot pic

It's not my favorite but I've been obsessed with Hoist That Rag recently. Never heard a song like it.

Same it's such an overwhelming feeling of passion I want to fuck, kill and dance all at the same time when I hear that song.

Bone Machine, Frank's Wild Years and Black Rider for me. Black Rider doesn't get enough love.

Here's hoping HE'LL BE FINE

He's good when your parents are yelling to listen to.
The rancid voice and odd instrumentación in his later albums helps to relief stress.

Which songs are in the Tom Waits Top Tier of Feels?

Anywhere I Lay My Head
Burma Shave
Innocent When You Dream
Lucky Day
Poor Edward
The Piano Has Been Drinking
I Don't Wanna Grow Up

Probably my favorite guitar solo. It's such a slimey, dirty skanky slut of a solo

WHEN I HEAR MY PARENTS FIGHT
I DONT WANNA GROW UP

For me, the album Alice. Particularly the title track, Flower's Grave and Fish & Bird.

Agree with you except for Bad As Me. It has grown a lot on me and now it's probably in my top 5. Also, I've always thought Blood Money was really underrated.

If I Have To Go is his saddest imo.

This one is underrated as fuck

fuck off faggot

THEEEERE IS A LIGHT IN THE FOREST
THERE'S A FACE IN THE TREES
I'LL pull you out of the chorus
and the first one's always free

I'm actually kinda surprised Waits' lyricism isn't brought up more. Even when I'm not into the Disney Villain presentation of his stuff I usually like the lyrics

Happy day, alcoholic Dylan!

>Favorite album? Song?
I actually can't think of a favorite. Top contenders are definitely Rain Dogs, Blood Money, Small Change and Swordfishtrombones.

I know, this is a topic that goes unnoticed for the most part. The lyrics to the many of the songs on Swordfish, for example.

Davenports and kettle drums
And swallowtail coats
Tablecloths and patent-leather shoes
Bathing suits and bowling balls
And clarinets and rings
And all this radio really needs is a fuse
A tinker, a tailor
A soldier's things
His rifle, his boots full of rocks
Oh, and this one is for bravery
And this one is for me
And everything's a dollar
In this box

>mfw have the lyrics to the entire song on my leg and my boss crouches down to read it all

Agreed, definitely in my Top 5

My favorite is either Swordfishtrombones or Bone Machine, depending what mood I'm in

Favorite song is too difficult, either Anywhere I Lay My Head or something off Small Change/Bone Machine/Orphans
