this year's grant-lee phillips is pretty ace.
youtube.com
he's great but i prefer his full-band stuff.
also + everything else you posted except for the dan layus bcs i haven't heard it.
gonna dl that tonight on your rec.
He was in a middle of the road band called Augustana. Hes reinvented himself as a country artist and is writing better songs.
>he's great but i prefer his full-band stuff.
I prefer his solo material but i listen to his Black Gold band and Dust Bowl Soul albums constantly. I do hope he does another but i dont think he could write those kind of songs again.
Man, the second Augustana album was pretty good for alt-country/pop and had some really nice tracks.
I only listened to one album after that one and remember it being terrible and disappointing.
i'd have to say every artist in here is worth listening too and im extremely impressed by this Dan Layus guy. Thanks for sharing. If you got any female suggestions link em please
another one of my Country AOTY's.
one of those albums where it hooks you in with the first song and if it doesn't then you shouldn't bother with the rest bcs you're not ready to hear it yet.
the last song is particularly gorgeous.
youtube.com
mm, can't wait to listen to the rest.
thanks for the rec.
In The Throes is my Jo Mo album of choice.
a perfect blend of quiet and loud imo.
too bad the world won't ever take him seriously bcs of his weight.
i remember being completely blown away the first time i heard Animals In The Dark.
someone in one of the Country threads recommended it earlier this year.
her bf (anderson east) definitely influenced the sound on her new album, for the better imo.
sure it gets overly lo-fi at times but that just makes it a perfect antidote to how clean-sounding mainstream country has become.
besides miranda's released plenty of acoustic country stuff in the past.
i for one am fine with her playing around with her sound.
Jameh.
The Secret of Roan Inish forever ruined that named for me.
When's he releasing new stuff anyway?
someone asked me for some female Country Pop recs a few days ago. Her's that if you're interested.

There's a killer George Jones homage on this one.
Not exactly Country, it's a little bit Rockabilly and a little bit Folk Rock but it's heart's in the Country anyway.

The new Drive By Truckers.
More Rock than Country but it's the best album you'll hear coming out of the Red States this year.
Here's a link if you don't already have it.

maybe not the best thread for this, but I'm trying to remember this country singer who died of cancer. he knew he only had a limited time to live and recorded an album in the meantime. this was only like ten years ago but I'm drawing a blank.
Lee hazelwood?
it was Warren Zevon. thanks though
Just now listening to him and wondering why I never took the time to do it before. Great stuff.
I heard What It Means on the radio and I though, 'is that a fuckin drive by truckers song I haven't heard' and lo, it was.
I'm also really digging Sturgill Simpson. Hadn't heard of him til a friend played his cover of In Bloom.
Some of my favorite stuff from the past couple years.
Sturgill has to be at the top of the mountain for me at the moment though. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed an artist as much as him.
Sturgill Simpson
Corb Lund
Jason Boland
