I'm 19, and I feel completely alienated from my peer group. They're either ultra religious or supper tied down by their parents, or taking random drugs and listening to EDM or the pop flavour of RAP.
That, or they play cover songs at an open mic, like 99% of the time this is the case. Plus, I want a girlfriend who is willing to get a career and doesn't expect me tug her along. I don't even care about music taste at this point I just wish I had someone to love. I have yet to find it, which I know isn't rare. I know not every girl I date I have to marry, but I don't really have time to be dating at this point in my life. Saying I have college, work, and I'm dedicated to making music.

In my experience, chicks are way more likely to be interested in the arts and generally have fairly decent taste in film, music and literature.

Not a good argument. The thread is about taste, and all "artsy" type people (in any category) can have shallow taste and/or be shitty/shallow artists.
I think there is a partly biological gender difference, not regarding ability to assess quality, but I think men are usually more likely to be willing to explore really narrow subjects (science, math, engineering, games). It's a matter of interest. I think women may be less likely to have such a deep interest drilling down into things that don't really directly affect their lives.
The ones who do have a deep interest of course could/do have eclectic taste like any men, but proportionally few of them do so.
I have no idea if there's evidence for it but I wouldn't be surprised if maybe there's a genetic-social aspect too. I think women are on average more likely to care about peer approval, so they may have no reason to try to develop a taste in something when absolutely none of their peers have a remotely similar taste (which is the case for music in most parts of the world). They won't want to feel "weird". And music being as subjective as it is can sometimes "sound better" when a friend or social group (like Sup Forums) recommends something to you.
I live in NYC and all the girls I've fucked with have had diverse music taste. From metal, experimental, to jazz. I feel like this whole "women have shit taste" is a bad, frankly outdated stereotype. That or, you're just as bland as the girls you engage.
What happened is women found out that knowledge of the arts is a way to weed out scrubs.
