The reason why British humor appears so good is because we see it through the American lens: we only see what's popular enough to catch on in America.
Actually watch BBC and you'll see a lot of shit comedy like "2 pints of lager" or that new show about that group of black guys getting white girlfriends (not even kidding).
"British humor" is pretty much Monty Python and Mr. Bean (ironically enough they're both on opposite sides of the spectrum: dry, verbal humor and overt, physical humor).
