It's semifinal time at the World Matchplay in Blackpool and in a tournament of not many shocks, it will be no surprise that for the second time in four years, it's the top 4 in the world competing in the first to 17 clashes.
First off, it's Michael van Gerwen versus Adrian Lewis in a repeat of last month's World Cup decider, when the Fat Man decided to do what MVG does and over-celebrate after hitting 180s and taking out big checkouts, causing an autism buttfrustration that ended in the Green Machine crashing and burning. You feel Aidey will have to do that again if he's to advance to his second WMP final, as he has only beaten the World Number 1 on two other TV occasions since their last meeting at the Winter Gardens three years ago in what was a ridiculous match with 32 legs played in under an hour. While the Dutchman was barely troubled by Chizzy in the QF, for the Stokie it was a rougher affair getting past Clownman in a doubling disaster that only got going 10 legs in.
The other semi-final is a repeat of another sensational Empress Ballroom match from the 2014 edition as Gary Anderson plays Phil Taylor. Back then, both players served up 105+ averages in another 32 leg fixture which the Groper won and continued his record streak by slapping MVG silly in the final. But a lot can change in two years and since that defeat, the World Champion has beaten Philth in every single major ranking meeting, not to mention eliminating him from the Premier League last year in what turned out to be a triple removal of Taylel. Unlike the other semi-final, both players had tough battles from the off, with the Stokie needing a 124 out just to break Mervyn King's throw at the end of the fixture, while Gando was pegged back by ultra sex machine Steve Beaton at 12-12 after he'd been 9-4 up, but eventually got through following a mega choke by the former Lakeside champ on 10.
Coverage starts from 7:00pm UK time on Sky Sports 2.
All matches must be won by 2 clear legs, with up to 5 extra legs played to decide a winner. If the match is tied after 5 extra legs, a final sudden death leg will be played.

Man, yesterday looked like one of the better days for this Matchplay. Too bad about the outcomes but I guess with Gando winning there's a good chance to stop TWL.
Let's hope Lewis shows up tonight so that his match with MVG can be a classic.
Nicholas Carter
was definitely best so far for overall quality
been a poor tournament otherwise
as said yesterday, there have been far too few good tight games
Adam Scott
Yesterday was awesome, with both both King and Beaton seriously threaten to comeback from what we thought were insurmountable deficits.
Nicholas Allen
Yeah, tournament was pretty meh. Bit of a shame since we had such a long break.
Joshua Price
Looking forward to this!
Liam Clark
Anything but TWL please. MVG must get that win just in case Gando can't get it done today.
Beaton was the highlight of the tournament for me.
Christopher Clark
Lets get comfy
Samuel Flores
Beaton having a mini-revival was certainly a highlight, with the ways he disposed of Paedo Suarez and Blubby.
Clinical finishing and really strong power scoring against two players who really can hit the big averages.
Nolan Sanders
and we're on now!
Just to let you all know, tomorrow's thread may be a bit later than usual as I'm out for the afternoon and am not expecting to be back until after 6. If there's no thread up 15 minutes before, someone else can make it.

Switched to stream now, since German TV scheduled the start to 7:30pm, because there is a preseason football tournament somewhere, which is clearly more important, and since this goes to penalties, they show this, too. Because penalty shootings in irrelevant football tournaments are HOT SHIT!

It really shows what an utter disgraceful company the PDC is. Barry Hearn is rolling money while the players have to play on such shit boards.

MVG's a bit lucky this tournament. He's far from his top form, but his oponnents make a lot of mistakes against him.

MVG always drops to his opponent's level though if they're under-par, he'll never set the autism express into motion if his opponent is averaging 92 (unless it's Jamie Caven).

God bless levi roots and his reggae reggae sauce
Hunter Miller
He just turns it on for a few legs and then stops; did it last year against Clown.
He hasn't really been on ultra-top form but he's still averaging ~100 for the tournament.
Thomas Carter
>He hasn't really been on ultra-top form but he's still averaging ~100 for the tournament. Kinda ridiculous when you think about it.

We call that pocketing.
