The Holy meme trinity

I haven't been making enough time to watch films lately and have regressed back to "lil e*****" status

Hope the IRC gang are all good

Well that's no good. I can watch OAHW tomorrow if you are around. Otherwise, hopefully I can catch you on the weekend or early next week. Really itching to watch it now.

We've been trying to watch Fallen, but one person couldn't find a rip and another was a no-show and we don't know if another user is even interested so it didn't end up happening. Such is life on IRC, I suppose.

Early Mizoguchi is pretty great

All Laloux.
letterboxd.com/Doublas_MK_II/

Post your curves ;)

I really disliked Osaka Elegy when I saw it. It just felt like miserablist porn and exploitative in a way that his peers (particularly, Ozu and Kobayashi) never did. In fact, I've been at least slightly disappointed with every Mizoguchi film I've seen, although I still like Sansho quite a bit

Osaka Elegy put me off watch more of his work for the time being. I found it impossible to side with the protagonist.

...

Jesus christ

...

I kinda understand the exploitative part of Mizoguchi. When I saw Ugetsu it really felt like something made for film festivals to get rewards. Then I googled around and found this on Wikipedia:

Ugetsu is one of a number of films that is arguably more popular in western countries than it is in Japan. Japanese film historian Tadao Satō pointed out that while this film, along with Mizoguchi's other works of the period The Crucified Lovers and Sansho the Bailiff, was probably not meant specifically to be sold to westerners as an "exotic" piece, it was perceived by studio executives as the kind of film that would not necessarily make a profit in Japanese theaters but would win awards at international film festivals

Also here is my curve. I think I give positive ratings a tad too much but oh well

...

>a tad

Needs more one-star ratings. Most movies are shit, let's be honest.

someone rec me a film to watch
i can't think for myself

Horse Money

>long shots of niggers staring into the distance

nah

greetings to the ancestors
no more excuses

Not hard to avoid one star movies so why watch them?

To take a break from art/kino/cinema. Then when you watch those again you appreciate them even more.

I think the reason it's shaped this way is that I obviously avoid shit flicks but I also save films I think I'll really like for a special occasion.

I really loved Horse Money and Stray Dogs. Any suggestions for similar films?

cheers senpaitachi i'll watch hm tonight

hey friendos

Jauja, Goodbye, Dragon Inn, The Assassin, Colossal Youth, Norte the End of History, Werckmeister Harmonies, Millenium Mambo, Uncle Boonmee

Influences are Akerman, Tarkovsky, Bresson stylistically often mixed with neorelist attributes (Rosselini, De Sica)

is this basically the slow cinema canon?

If you're a millennial

not at all, its just good ones to keep going with closely related in style and time to what the suggestions were based on. threw in some of the super early pre stuff too

kek

What does dropout bear think of this?

gibe te-be-ache

Alright, thanks for all the recs. I've got a pretty heavy list to get through now. Appreciate it.

>over 300 movies on my watchlist and I don't know what to watch.
I'll probably just go with a godzilla movie.

...

>Tarantino on par with Leone in terms of quality

into the trash it goes

I have a similar curve. I don't 'avoid' shit flicks, I just try to watch anything I'm interested in regardless of quality. Nonetheless, a lot of the lower rated movies I saw because they're suppose to be 'so bad they're good'.

I also just very rarely give movies a 10/10 because, to me, it means it has to be masterpiece and I just haven't found too many of them.

>total films seen in the year dropped by nearly 15 films thanks to the new system
That's some bullshit Letterboxd.

>new system
what's changed aside from those god-awful circles and icons?

They should revert back to US release date asap.

They no longer list films by their US release date, now it's by festival releases.

e.g. if a film premieres at Sundance 2015 but is released theatrically in 2016 it's a 2015 film.

t. embryo

Besides that, the only change I've noticed is that your total yearly films now only counts first time views during the year. So if you see a movie more than once, it'll only count that first viewing towards your yearly total.

...

>submitted some feedback to include genre filters in our films page
>gets a decent amount of votes and is listed "under review"
>more than a year later and still hasn't been added
I really don't get how such a simple feature isn't on the site. It's not like it'd be some complicated thing to add, they already have that filter for watchlists why can't they add it to the films tab?

rateyourmusic.com/~EtInArcadiaEgo

come to rym

Rym is okay for finding music. Looks like shit though. I might switch when they roll out cinemos.

letterboxd.com/Unrequited/

Been going through a lot of Gyllenhaal's films recently, enjoyed most of them. Can't wait for Okja.

I'm pretty selective with what I watch. I haven't watched many truly bad movies, at least not since I started recording what I watch back in 2014. I've been watch a lot of the canon. You shouldn't expect many low ratings.

That's what I've been doing as well. Just got into movies about two years ago, so there's a lot I need to see and most of what I watch are classics

"Based" Jim Healey's Sup Forums film club is going swimmingly, I see. Like there was ever any doubt.

SOON

lol

>that feel when you are going to make a film this summer and are afraid that you will become the second healey

gimme some good feel good & comfy, maybe romance movie

You should be worried that you won't become the next Healey.

Follow in his footsteps and you could be the next next next Spielberg.

>The Spectacular Now

Shailene Woodley gave me wood for days. Shame about the film itself.

are there any good lesbian films with focus on the love and not the sex? kinda like the japanese yuri genre

Does anyone actually have a link Healey`s films?

Just wait a few years for the Criterion set.
