who said this?

i didn't realize that people thought that

>songs about transvestite vicars, fat moms, Joan of Arc's nose, and pretentious low-wage workers
>not funny
Maybe it was just too smart for you, kiddo

>still I must speak frankly, Mr. Shankly
>give us money

>not funny

pleb

>pretentious low wage workers
Which one?

they're obviously metaphors though

not just lol look a vicar in a dress

>fat moms
what

It's a little funny, but in a sad way.
The rest of the song is serious.

>>fat moms
>what

"some girls mothers are bigger than other girls mothers"

>At Rolling Stone, Gavin Edwards gave a contemporary retrospective review to the album rating it a perfect five stars, writing that "he made one of the funniest rock albums ever"

it's very sarcastic user

Isn't that song about titties?

>British Humor

morrissey is gay af so probably not

It's a heavy handed analogy for transvestism

Yes, obviously

bi

nah

nothing is heavy handed with moz, his lyrics are infamously cryptic

I haven't listened to it in a long time but it's more likely he's making a general statement on preconceptions and judgment in society

the framing of 'I know it's over' is pretty funny desu. The object of his affection appears to him in a dream, but all he can imagine them doing is berating him for his failures

Well, frankly mr shankly isnt funny at all
Fuck that song

Frankly Mr. Shankley. Did you not listen to the lyrics?

he also makes it sound like the person he desires is his mother, who by the album title we can assume is dead. Does morrissey want to bang his own dead mom?

>he also makes it sound like the person he desires is his mother

how on earth did you get to that conclusion

besides, moz doesn't want to bang anyone

Normies trying to claim it (it's ~satirical~!) despite all the lyrics catering to people with AvPD.

he literally starts it with "oh mother" and then proceeds to never bring up another person

there's the 'sad, veiled bride' or 'handsome groom', which seem more realistic. The mother talk is part of the wider idea of abandoning the hope for happiness and retreating from the world

now you mention it the lyric structure is a bit odd. he starts off confiding in his mother and feeling dead inside, seeking help then he brings up the apparition mentioned with no context

still, I think he's addressing two different people. it's just not made clear

im looking over the lyrics again and it sounds more like he's just whining to his mother while she's berating him for some reason
do i just have an oedipus complex for thinking it was like that

>do i just have an oedipus complex for thinking it was like that
this is the most logical explanation

Bigmouth Strikes Again is a pretty humorous song. Joan of Arc with a Walkman? That's pretty funny if you ask me

go to sleep Morrissey

what about Handsome Devil?
"Let me get my hands
On your mammary glands"

>british """""""""""""""""""humor""""""""""""""""""""

He writes tales of love not necessarily about himself

Blatantly gay though.

>alien vs predator disorder

>Here’s what a lot of people miss about The Smiths in general, and frontman Morrissey in particular: Their songs are funny.
>For anyone who doubted that The Smiths could be hilarious, the band’s third album The Queen Is Dead clarified the matter.
>the record’s most excessive expression of despondency—“Never Had No One Ever”—is so grandiose that it’s hard to read it as entirely straight-faced.

>Fuck that song
why?

SWEETNESS, SWEETNESS I WAS ONLY JOKING
WHEN I SAID I'D LIKE TO
SMASH EVERY TOOTH IN YOUR HEAD

>The object of his affection appears to him in a dream
What? Where'd you get that from?
>but all he can imagine them doing is berating him for his failures
That's funny to you?

>he also makes it sound like the person he desires is his mother, who by the album title we can assume is dead.
what the fuck

You're taking the lyrics too literally.

>For anyone who doubted that The Smiths could be hilarious

Disguised sentiments or not, who the fuck would find the record "hilarious"

>who the fuck would find the record "hilarious"
That's what I'm tryna figure out.

Steve Albini once sang the phrase "I let you shave my pussy." I think we can reasonably assume that Albini does not have a pussy.
