The Nice Guys

This movie is really, really bad. My attempt at being erudite: This movie is like a mediocre comedy with all the punchlines edited out. Its startling, first bad Russel Crowe film i've seen, and it looks like he tried to make it work too. I don't really want anyone to pay to see this, but I am curious about how this could possibly be well reviewed, which it is.

But Chris Stuckmann said it was good.

Some of you should stick to capeshit.

>My attempt at being erudite
You should make an attempt after graduating high school.

So should Shane Black

...

Alright, but can you give us an actual explanation?

My hype levels are high, but I'm open to having my opinion changed before I go in.

It's really, really bad.

Yes, but you haven't given any reasoning as to why.

Give me some bullet points, if nothing else. Greentext the problems that the movie has.

I'm trying to be erudite.

You're not doing a very good job.

glib facsimile

Its startling,

>having or showing great knowledge or learning
I think the word you're looking for is "succinct".

In any case, the bullet point option is your opportunity. Showcase your knowledge of film while still being short, sweet, and to the point.

OP here. There are two reasons why I think this movie is awful.

First, all the deliveries are off. They just don't connect, I can't really describe it, watch it if you don't believe me.

Second, Ryan Gosling's character has a 13 daughter who's suppose to be the wise-cracking know it all, the sensible one of the what becomes a trio. Because this movie is set in the 70s (and its about a porno related crime) the movie is really vulgar. This is fine by itself, but when you have a 13 year old kid trying to land jokes in this it becomes terribly uncomfortable. Pre-teen sidekicks just don't belong in R rated comdies.

On a separate note, I really liked 'Hobo with a Shot Gun', this felt like that kind of a movie but executed in the worst way.

>Pre-teen sidekicks just don't belong in R rated comdies.
OP confirmed for biggest faggot in the universe

OP again. I really, really regret trying to be erudite. I should stick to smaller words.

Thanks for explaining. Now I feel entirely justified in disregarding your opinion.

Just going to be a nice guy here for a second.

OP is a fucking retard contrarion or he hasn't seen this. This movie is fucking fantastic. Go see it if you're interested, it's good.

Could you explain your opinion in a more erudite way?

>the deliveries are off
Alright, that's a legit reason, I'll keep an eye out for that.

>preteen sidekicks don't belong in R-Rated comedies.
I disagree, I would think having a child be the voice of reason could be executed really well if you sort of exploited that contrast.

At least you gave something to look for, I'm okay with that.

Also, I fucking loved Hobo With A Shotgun so huge props for that but this doesn't look like that kind of movie at all. HWAS was a gory exploitation comedy that drew heavily from 80's schlock like Toxic Avenger. This looks more like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in the 70's.

>not getting the jokes

Oh lawdy. It used to be a meme that some people should "stick to capeshit". In your case however, OP, you really are a terminal fucking retard.

>First, all the deliveries are off.
That is complete bullshit because all of the deliveries in the trailer were on point...

OP again. I wanted to like this movie. Ryan Gosling can play an idiot detective, I believe that. Russel Crowe can also definitely play a bail-bondsman well to be sure. The worst part about this movie is that it had all the elements to be good but wasn't. It had a good cast, it had good set design. Somehow it just hits all the wrong notes. It doesn't transition well from violence to comedy, the pacing is weird. I generally don't like kids in movies especially adult comedies. They aren't funny, and they can't be the object of humor either. I don't think an endearing kid adds anything. Whatever you've been warned. I say see the rip if you must, don't pay for it.

I saw it at the premiere last week and loved it, but OP does have a point. A lot of the quips/one-liners don't really land even though they feel like they should. It's weird because there's also a ton of bits that work perfectly. The kid sidekick argument is dumb, disregard it (the character isn't great but for different reasons. She's supposed to be the moral compass but just comes off as painfully naive which I guess is the point but it gets annoying.) The tone is also pretty off. It's 90% lighthearted except for a 5-10 minute section in the middle where it turns out Ryan Gosling is an alcoholic (and not in the lovable drunk sort of way) who is racked up with guilt over something that happened that i don't want to spoil but it's revealed in a like 2 minute scene that has minimal emotional impact. And Russel Crowe is also a sad sap who just wants to be the good guy. There's a few other scenes in the movie where you're unsure if the movie is being clichéd or making fun of clichés. I'm inclined to go with the latter considering it's Shane Black, but the scenes feel pretty sincere. Besides that though, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The physical comedy in it is great and it's a movie that reminds me of myself. Intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor.

is this the birth of an epic new meme

I don't get why some of you think having kids in comedies is interesting. Okay, maybe having a Lisa character in some Rom-Com might work (I guess) but it's so inappropriate in a R comedy. I expect kids to act their age, I sort of expect them to be just dumb kids. So when a 12 year old makes some quip in a sex party, or fights off some henchman who had just shot someone dead it's just uncomfortable.

I liked the trailers. Was looking forward to this.

Would have been looking forward more if it was Crowe and Robert Downey Jnr.

>I really liked Hobo With A Shotgun

I'm gonna go ahead and take your opinion with a grain of salt.

Nigga the fuck

Hobo With A Shotgun is kino

>Just going to be a nice guy
>Just going to be a nice guy
>Just going to be a nice guy

This movie was fantastic

Don't listen to OP, this movie was great

You never ask for a meme, you let the meme give birth to itself.

Learn 2 forced meme faggot

>this movie is fucking fantastic

Say that again

>It's 90% lighthearted

Too much killing and a ridiculously complicated story for a comedy

Hobo with a Shotgun is fucking Kino though

stick to capeshit hack snyder

So its good? Cool man thanks

Kino is literally the most retarded meme Sup Forums ever invented.
You should kill yourselves not only for perpetuating the meme, but also for having shit taste.

What a kinoreply my man.

It's dumb as shit but it grew on me after the Swiss Army Man trailer

I mean it works really well in describing that particular sort of film, just something completely and utterly bizarre. Hailing it as akin to a masterpiece is the joke there.

Capekino can fuck off and go die in a hole though.

Thanks for letting me confirm you're a pleb.

You had me worried for a minute

>Because this movie is set in the 70s (and its about a porno related crime) the movie is really vulgar. This is fine by itself, but when you have a 13 year old kid trying to land jokes in this it becomes terribly uncomfortable
So a teen sidekick doesn't work in your opinion because of your own sensibilities.
A teen sidekick that would normally be seen in a "kiddie" or family comedy juxtaposed with a vulgar porno murder in the 70s is great if done correctly.
And judging by the trailers, knowing Shane Black's previous work and disregarding your retarded opinion, I'd say it is done correctly.

Literally everybody can play a bail-bondsman you fucking retard.
That's not a character, that's a profession.

>teen sidekick that would normally be seen in a "kiddie" or family comedy juxtaposed with a vulgar porno murder in the 70s is great if done correctly.
That's what I'm trying to say, man. The contrast there has great potential.

OP is faggot, as always.

You should probably stick to superhero movies.

So its good? Got it

>it's an acclaim from credible sources but magically, coincidentally the teenage crossposters from Sup Forums hated it episode

nice try OP but i've seen this rerun already

>If Sup Forums says a movie is bad, then it must be good
Thnx OP, I really want to watch this movie now

Are you fucking retarded?

Darian's one of the best characters in Last Boy Scout.

Well, it looks like I'm undone by cunny posters. Enjoy your movie.
