Career thread. I'm feeling pretty shitty today bros. 22m dropped out of college, decided to become a career dj, although I'm very good at what I do I'm new in my city and haven't found work yet. What's your career, why did you choose it and how did you get into it?

21 and I'm still in highschool.

idk bro i personally contemplate suicide on the daily 26 could have a pretty good future just been depressed as fuck lately. girl problems plus insecurities about a car wreck that may have damaged my iq i had a massive head ache for like 2 days after.

honestly bro probably the best thing you can do is kill yourself i mean it's just so fucking hard in this economy to get a solid paycheck and even if u do manage it's probably not going to last. school's are over crowded and over priceddropping out was a good thing you can teach yourself more on your own

I'm sure your IQ is fine man, migranes and the llike are common after head trauma. If you're really worried about it go to a legir psychologist and get an IQ test done. I did it at 24 because I was insecure about my intelligence. Turned out really I just had issues personally to deal with.
My IQ is higher average.

Mason

I didn't choose it, it paid more than what I was doing before, and when the economy crashed no one was hiring with what i was doing

I got into it by finding someone to apprentice under, though it would have been easier going directly through the union hall.

If you live in a union friend state/area I highly suggest joining a building trade now, most of them allow you to retire with pension after 30 years and the pay is good.

I know you think you want to be a deejay, but you'll eventually be a full grown adult and that shit doesn't pay. Seriously, look into it.

Keep grinding. Make a local name for yourself if you can by throwing free shows. Did you know Diplo hosted block parties in Philly for free before he was anything big?
Get creative

work in IT, easy way out, learned to love it, good money.

>What's your career
I'm a Pharmacist

>Why did you choose it
Because Med school is nearly impossible to get in to when you started your education in your early 20's.
I like the idea of working towards help people who are ill. It's a good feeling when someone is in pain or misery and they are happy to see you because you can help them.
Also, health care is economy proof. No matter the state of the world their will always be a demand for my skills.

How did you get into it?
By working in different care fields, proving i have a genuine passion for health care, and studying like a mother fucker.
It's easier to get in to than med school, I wouldn't say it was easy though. Fucking hard when you left school with no qualifications.

I'm a writer. That sounds cool, but is actually a lot of work, since I'm neither well-known nor really good. It's just the thing I wanted to do with my life, with all consequences. So I started writing a detective series, hired friends to illustrate and for a homepage. started selling the books, printing new ones etc. That doesn't bring in enough money to cover my costs, so most of the time I work as a ghost-writer. I'll write anything for anyone, as long as I get paid (usually 15-20€ a page, which is not a lot). It's quick money, but I kinda feel like a prostitute. How I came to do this? I just said 'I'm a writer now.' after I finished my BA degree. And then I started to learn everything when I needed it. How to earn money with writing was one of the most important questions, I can do my creative-art poetry shit, after I earned enough for the month by writing lame bullshit.

honestly doesn't sound like a bad life. You're not rich but at least you're following your creative vision in life. Most people never do that.

why don't you start writing legal contracts? that shit probably pays really good i mean i have no experience in that type of field or anything but hey it's a form of writing ...

That actually would be really cool throwing block parties for people. Much appreciated user. My day job is graphic design work, but I want to move towards web design.
I feel you on whoring out your time and skills. Degrading but it does pay the bills

>What's your career?
I'm an itamae (sushi chef).
>Why did you choose it?
It's fun. I get to play with food and big ass knives making tasty treats that people appreciate.
>How did you get into it?
Started as a prep cook and worked my way up through several other positions until I was there.

I'm in Recruitment, basically fell into it after pissing about for 3 years at university and picking up a fucking useless English Lit degree.

Not a bad life or a bad career option, though I wish I'd done something with a little more longevity - not many recruiters over the age of 40 in the UK.

I'm 19, right now I have a job at the Harambe zoo doing landscaping work. I got there because I did a high school internship with them and proved I was a hard worker. It's not bad work but I'd rather not do it the rest of my life. I'm in college right now paying for it without loans and I'm looking to try and get into irrigation work since I know one of the people that we contracted at the zoo to do it.

i'm a suicidal lunatic i got here by chasing girls and jerking off to Sup Forums porn too much

The beauty of the IT industry is it doesnt end. Web design, the back end, the load balancing, networking, clustering, storage, dns, it goes on and on.

Its a game in separate directions, code, design or infrastructure. Knowing what it sits on does it for me.

Asset manager at 22. Got into swiss school made some connections got hooked up with an intern position, worked my ass for a while made relationship manager now. Got a side thing going buying reselling goods. Making good money so far, got a wife and a boy on the way. Lifes good

I'm just gonna assume you are everyone in this thread.

Dude get into IT. My idiot cousin has been doing it for over 10 years and makes 160k in some sort of managerial position. He married an asian chick too, and she works at some aerospace company, so maybe you should marry a smart asian chick man.

Sounds pretty solid. Props to you.

32 year old shop manager. I make about 60k a year with benefits and still climbing. Kind of fell into the position but I enjoy it.

What do you do then? Back end i assume

Boring af but money is.money

33m here, i'm an architect, i chose it because i fucking love both sides of my job, technical drawing and the construction site stuff, also a pinch of autism. I get into it doing minor jobs for the town and then i get into a private office. It work pretty similar to the lawyer career, after a few years of apprenticeship training they ask you to become an associate.

>work in IT

H1BWriters in America earn an average of $9000 year

>Damaged my IQ
Hahahahaha

An architect would be an awesome career. Did you school?

Google "Frontal Lobe Syndrome". If you start experiencing ADD like symptoms you are fucked (cannot fix that shit with todays medicine, although you'll manage if...)
If you already had ADD, it might've gotten worse

fucking ur mom used to be my job.
she'd come over sometimes while her boyfriend was away after school.

once the door would close she'd almost instantly get naked. most times she'd put on her favorite song and start sucking. then she would cry. her tears and makeup would drip down her face onto my dick. its surprising how cold tears are. eventually i finally asked her what was wrong. in between licks she told me that her favorite song was also her bfs favorite song. so even though she loved hearing it and it totally got her pussy wet, it also made her think about the fact that she was cheating on her boyfriend. i dont think i ever came harder down somebodies throat then right after she told me that. she was beautiful. we dont hang out anymore. wanna get lunch?

Adding to the IT love here. I just turned 23 and am starting full time as a software engineer at a high-value private Valley company in 3 weeks. Over 100k a year, Google-style office life and perks.

You don't have to make it to the Valley to make good money, and tech isn't going away any time soon.

What part of IT does he do?

I don't know, he's a lot older than me so we don't keep in touch that often. I do know that he has some sort of senior managerial position that's pretty laid back.

Refrigeration

Used to be a chef, got pissed at the country club I was working with. Guy fixing our equipment says hey why don't you come work for me. I quit and learned how to fix stuff in restaurants. 11 years later I am in a very specialized area of equipment repair. I make good money and no one cares what I do as long as I bring home the bacon.

7/10 would love to go back to being a chef again. Maybe open a restaurant of my own one day. I'm a lot better cook than mechanic, and I am a damn good mechanic.

I'm in bio right now but I kinda want to transition into biotech or IT. What languages should I learn to get where you are?

Difficulty in inhibiting emotions, anger, excitement.
Depression
Social disinhibition

Oh and btw, get it checked at least

Antisocial behaviour is a characteristic feature of frontal disinhibition syndrome.

Pervasive emotional apathy and blandness

Biotech is an interesting area, but in my view it's more a data analytics/data science problem than a software problem at this point. There is some cool stuff being done, but it's a dangerous place because of regulation (look at Theranos).

For plain tech, you basically can't go wrong knowing Java, JavaScript and Python.

I want to be a process engineer, but I'm way behind on my education. I've been working construction for years since high school (21 now) and I'm starting to feel stuck because it's hard to make 36k+ for me unless I stay on this track of rough framing homes and condos.

And this is straight after accident ? You never had these symptoms before? Get it checked by a professional (I'm not and I don't know user)
