No cannes thread? That's not acceptable

No cannes thread? That's not acceptable

It got canned

When they announce the winners?

Today.

>Refn interview live RIGHT NOW
absolutely based

oh wait they're back to Friday's press conference now

weird

#teamfarhadi even though his screening came way too late to be in contention. The more I read about Paterson the more interested I am in seeing it

Elle should win.

>good director
>controversial
>apparently very good
>one of the best roles of Isabelle Huppert

I have a feeling the Palme d'or is going to Toni Erdmann, since it got such a positive response so early on. Huppert has a good chance at best actress though, unless they give it to that one chick from the Dardennes movie, since I'm sure they want to give them something just for showing up.

not that guy but I think Toni Erdmann will win the Palme as well. Most pundits seem to be projecting it that way

Either way, I'm gonna see both of them whenever I can. But the only thing we know is that Sean Penn isn't getting anything. I can't even remember the last time a movie that premiered at Cannes scored that low in all the polls

Toni Erdmann may be good, but Elle sounds more interesting.
>hilarious comedy with a violent rape scene
I mean, fuck, the film must be amazing if it wasn't ripped apart by the feminists.

based Isabelle Huppert
you just can't go wrong with her
literally kinema: the actress

I agree, Elle is much more interesting to me overall. Probably the one from the festival I'm most excited to see, unless there's something I missed. But Toni Erdmann is probably getting the Palme, if only for the fact that it's a lot less controversial

Post your predictions.

Palme d'or : Toni Erdmann
Grand prize : Sierra Nevada
Jury prize : The Neon Demon
Best director : Paul Verhoeven
Best screenplay : Personal shopper
Best actor : Adam Driver
Best actress : Sonia Braga

A mix between a bold and safe awards

canal+ qui essaye de sauver les quelques pécors qui osent de claquer 40 euros/mois

Palme d'or : I, Daniel Blake
Grand prize : The unknown girl
Jury prize : Baccalaureat
Best Director : Cristi Puiu
Best Screenplay : It's only the end of the world
Best actor : Fabrice Luchini
Best actress : Marion Cotillard

You know what they say " A good festival and terrible awards "

Elle will win something.

Un certain regard was really unremarkable this year.

There is no way that Dolan movie is getting anything, everyone shat all over it. And this is coming from someone that loved Mommy

too lazy to look myself, but are there any gambling spots with odds on what will take the palme d'or?

someone float some lines, somewhat curious

refn will win the leaf

link to stream?

you're 6 hours early

Oh god the rumors on the awards from trustworthy sources are very interesting.
Toni erdmann is not the palme

Will the Palme be awarded in 6 hours or is that when the presentations begin? Either way -- fuck -- it'll be 4am in Aus.

george miller didn't like it

Doesn't surprise me critcs are the epitome of shit taste

It is a nightmare. Some are talking about very political awards.
Dude Dardenne lmao

who are?

they can't fuck it up 2 years in a row surely
if they give the Palme to I, Daniel Blake over Toni Erdmann or Graduation there'll be a riot
also Maren Ade a qt

Dolan, loach and arnold called back...
It smells bad guys

there is no fucking way Dolan is getting an award, what?

Maybe they want to mock him or something.

any info on based Mel's Blood Father and Schrader's Dog Eat Dog?

How was that Woody Allen film received fãms?

Mungiu and farhadi too.
Shit it will be the safest awards ever

What do you mean called back?

ulien Gester @juliengester 49s50 seconds ago
Bon. Welcome back Loach, Dolan, Arnold, Mungiu, Farhadi et "Divines". Bye bye Guiraudie, Mendonça Filho, Ade, Dumont, Jarmusch, Verhoeven...

kek, what the fuck are they even doing?

this can't be true

Crashing this festival

MEDIOCRE

Who /TEAMDolan/ here?

i knew Miller was a fucking pleb
nobody believed me because he made 2 decent cult films 40 years ago, but he's garbage

This is bullshit, right? There's no fucking way Dolan or Arnold are getting anything, everyone agreed they made trash

Atleast it's not as bad as Tarantino giving the palm to Michael moore

It's Donald Sutherland's fault.

This is trustworthy? i need to see it, would be hilarious

Mel looks great

>it's dheepan all over again
Bravo Miller!

>fake as shit
>go on Twitter and see someone working in the festival confirming this

Jesus, this is gonna be even worse than Dheepan winning last year

>yfw Dolan wins for best director

...

Desplechin is a dolan fanboy
Paradis and dunst are pleb as fuck
Mads probably was more interested in sport on tv than the actual festival
The iranian producer was probably forgotten in some screening room by the rest of the jury.

...

Can't be serious...

The Iranian prob lobbied hard for the Farhadi.

Mendoza called back too.
Pls wake me up

>The iranian producer was probably forgotten in some screening room by the rest of the jury.

Kek. That Iranian guy probably made sure to include Farhadi.

b i z z a r o j u r y

NO

You know I think he actually has a strong chance of winning best director.

Palme will go to Loach though. Screencap this.

That list is honestly so bad that I hope Dolan gets the Palme just to see the ensuing shitstorm

caption this

The rumors say dolan or Mungiu for the palme.

fucking dolan, honestly

how relevant is the FIPRESCI Price?

Oh please, let it be a tie between them. I'd fucking die

refn will win tho

Honestly if Dolan gets the palm, and bare in mind this isn't necessarily me hating on dolan so much as them giving the palm to his worst received film ever, do we seriously consider abandoning the jury system for Cannes because it clearly doesn't work. There is no point having any awards if they are awareded arbitrarily to undeserving films.

*parp

pretty relevant actually

Please God let Dolan win and do an extremely pretentious and pedantic acceptance speech when he accepts the Palmer. This board will go up in flames if that happens.

>has waifuism gone too far?

>Inside her sleek office, Michele strolls disinterestedly past a scantily-clad model striking a brutalised pose. Her top-selling game allows its user to take the role of a hulking orc rapist, penetrating a damsel from behind with a snaking tentacle.

OK I have to see this. Gotta love Verhoeven.

the jury should be more deserving of that honour.

Why Paradis?
Why Miller? (his films are great but dumb as fuck)
Why that iranian producer? (because politics)

It usually means keep your eye on the director's next feature. Usually they influence film theory in pretty powerful ways -- if you note the emergence of Slow Cinema for example, its visible in the prizewinners over the last decade or two.

I think part of the problem is that it is filmmakers/actors/producers who are a part of the jury and who as a result have a lot of biasing/networking and whatever going on as well. Of course critics also have these problems but at least there isn't a chance that they will be working directly with someone who they award/don't award a prize to in the near future.

kek, I'm surprised such an old fuck like Verhoeven knows there are games like that.

WHERE IS REFN?
GUYS, WHERE THE FUCK IS REFN?

In the garbage, where he belongs

I'd rather Refn than more social realism shit.

I would probably prefer Refn getting something than the shitty entries from otherwise decent filmmakers like Dolan Arnold and Loach (of course Refn's is probably shitty but at least it looks itneresting unlike all of those)

>The greatest Director since Scorsese
>In the garbage

Another pseudo-intellectual pleb who watches "video essays" on David Lynch.

Another pseudo-intellectual pleb who watches "video essays" on Nicholas Wending Refn yuck yuck. jon favreau is the greatest living director.

>Greatest director since Scorsese

Kek

Is this actually a joke?

falling for a bait this obvious

JUSTE

>Welcome back NOlan
>Bye bye Ade

I'm too sad to post today. goodbye cruel world...

Refn is still in Cannes btw.

qtp2t

What time EST for livestreaming?

1pm

With those family connections even Chris chan would have films premiering at Cannes

Refn is a hack

what was the general opinion on paterson

It was very well received overall. Probably fourth behind Toni Erdmann, Elle, and Sieranevada

That's good, I'm very excited to see it.

kek, those tweets

Cédric Succivalli @OnTheCroisette 2 minil y a 2 minutes

Goodbye to Cinema. IF you thought last year's awards were appalling YOU HAVE SEEN NOTHING YET. #Cannes2016

Dolan confirmed for Palme
