Because the sun is small (when compared to the gigantic sun of the heliocentric model). When the sun is above one point of the flat earth, it's light doesn't reach the part of the earth that are away from it. Think of the sun as a small spotlight at the top of the dome. During the northern hemisphere summer solstice is when the sun is at it's closest point to the north pole, so in artic places the sun can be seen all 24hs.

That curvature is given because of "fish eye" camera lens. They give further distance of view, but distort the horizon by giving a curvature to everything in that distance.
