Chess problem from before seemed cool, so here's another chess thread.
Rules of the thread:
1. Give your solution in algebraic notation. Provide a short annotation that justifies your solution. 2. You can and should post other chess problems, but make sure to tag the correct problem when giving a solution. 3. ____ to win just means best play gives one opponent a significant advantage.
I'll start the thread off with a relative low-ball. Black to move. What's the best move and why?
Levi Brooks
Self bump
Hudson Murphy
Relative chess noob here, G5 to F3? Forces opposing queen to take it or lose a rook, although I suppose if they called your bluff you can't take the rook or you'd lose your queen, guess it depends what kind of level you're playing at, again I'm pretty much a noob.
Ryan Hernandez
OP here - you're on the right track. Think about potential forks.
Camden Myers
Black to move >Rd2 >QxRd2 >Nf3 >whatever >checkmate is most likely QxPh2
Juan Young
I'm literally that much of a chess noob I wasn't aware of that term, aside from an incredibly amateur chess club as a kid and the odd game with a friend or older family member I don't really play, although I've wanted to.
This is almost gibberish to me, I'm completely unaware of basically any notation.
Caleb Young
Yep. Best play and white still loses a bishop.
Here's a fun one by Paul Murphy. White to move - checkmate in two.
Blake Sullivan
Chess.com is a good site to practice chess for free.
Jose Rodriguez
I was lazy as shit and I am drunk hope this helps
Sebastian Bennett
Rh6
Evan Lee
Yeah for the Pawn cap and then push with your pass pawn.
Wyatt Clark
Yep. Here's a trickier one. White to move - mate in three.
Luke Parker
Is K to f5 on the right track or am I retarded?
Christopher Reyes
retarded because it would be a draw
Anthony Sullivan
>Rf5 >Ke7 >Ke5 Next move doesn't matter, rook to a8 for the mate. Great thread guys. Anymore of these?
Christian Sullivan
Does knight to f8 sound right
Robert Sullivan
Rf8, Ke7 >Opens a move for the king to avoid draw and force him to move to only one position. Nf6+, Kxf8 >Positioning the knight for the mate, while sacrificing the rook for the king's only move. Rf7# 1-0
Jace Mitchell
oh yeah.. sorry mate, learned how to play only about a month ago.
Jeremiah Gonzalez
Ra8 kc7 rb8 kd6 rb6#
Nicholas Powell
>Rf5 >Ke7 >Ke5 The next move does matter ,because >Kd8 allows the king to escape to c7 after Ra8
is correct
Robert Gonzalez
I just saw that and I hate my life.
Daniel Russell
Not mate. Kc7 again.
Aaron Diaz
Mate in 1 Kd6 Take king, win game. 7 whites against a nigger shouldn't take more than 1 round.
Josiah Baker
anyone here titled?
Gabriel Williams
Can't king return to d6 after Nf6?
Brody Gomez
And if black doesn't move its pawn? Not checkmate in 2...
Robert Young
That would result in a quicker mate with Rd7.
Anthony Long
If black does not take the rook with its pawn, it's only other eligible move would be to move its bishop somewhere, which leaves h7 undefended. Rh7 would be mate in 2, still.
