I'm sure it did. But conceptually -- beyond just the needs of a militaristic attributes needed for an action game -- I think it's still neat. I like to think it can separate the sphere section, so the sphere bit can stay as an oribiting medical facility while the drive section gets down to other business.

and with that size of ship you would have a very hard time creating a power surge,
that is strong enough since you want lots of current to pass through the water while the ship hull is a much better conductor
