It's small because as I said they need to save as much place as they can on the tractor. Plus there are relevant cities every few dozens of km in Europe, with cheap hotels specialized for people always on the road. And even if they sleep in the truck, as said travels rarely takes more than 2 or 3 days so they can deal with it.

Also nowadays a big part of the truck drivers are just cheap Poles, Liths, Slovaks or Hungarians. Companies just put 2 of them in a truck, and one drives when the other is sleeping in the back. This way they can drive 24/24.
As you can imagine, it does not help increasing the faith in the EU, as it put a hell fucking lot of drivers out of job in western Europe.
