Will Nolan save warkino?
Dunkirk
>Its a free england only exists because hitler was an idiot episode
>Starring that cretin from One Direction
Dropped
>it's a British's proudest achievement in world war II was to retreat from the Germans in an extremely orderly manner
Nolan is the kino king
>using cardboard cutouts instead of just CG more soldiers in
lol they must have ran out of budget already
>while the cast members held up cutouts of soldiers to create the illusion of more people
Has Nolan finally lost it?
>Nolan is dressed in character
Shit Nolan just invented method directing
>those cutouts
oh come Nolan, you were the one who built a giant rotating hallway for inception, what the fuck are you thinking now?
Are the cutouts there just for the actors to immerse themselves or are they stand-ins for CGI? Surely you could do the latter much more efficiently.
nah, Nolan is literally on set thinking to himself, "real life matte paintings, bitches!"

I think both. And they see, to be made out of some cloth. looks efficient/cheap enough to me
Will CIA be in it?
>The sail plan I just filed with the navy lists Smee's granddad, Maimen's granddad, Dr. Pavelheer Senior, but only one of you!
Gotta be honest my german guilt was running a little low. I feel like we need a few more holocaust movies.
>Herr Rommel I'm Abwehr
>uh, you don't get to advance
>It's an "Americans remember they had little to no role in Germany's defeat in WW2" thread
Well neither did britcucks. It really was russia doing all the heavy lifting. Can't remember that now though because of the following cold war.
>cutouts instead of actual people
THE BIGGEST THE SILENT ERA IN TRUTH
>Nolan, CGI technology has actually gotten really decent. You yourself saw how much it helped in the dark knight trilogy and interstellar. I REALLY think we should cgi extra soldiers in

They're obviously setting up a diversion to trick the Germans into attacking the wrong beach.
...
Are we sure this is for set-extension and not just something the actual soldiers did at the time? I mean, they had wood tanks during World War 1.
He's just realistically portraying how the British did it.
...
>I've got the British in my sights captain, they're sitting ducks.
>Wait, what's this?
>Next to soldiers running for the boats there seems to be some faceless soldiers standing completely still and to attention
>why would i ever shoot the moving ones? lol
And that's how we successfully outsmarted the German soldiers
This is what I don't get. There are only two stories to tell from this event and neither one of them are meant for a movie. An interesting documentary, yes, but not a movie. You either show Britain like, "Holy shit we just got BTFO we gotta go!" or you show, "Holy shit Hitler just totally fucked up like how did he fuck up like that?!"
This story just doesn't make sense as a movie.
There's already a movie. It tells the story of a few troops trying to get home and the story of some of the rescue volunteers
>the thinking man's world war 2 film
>free of childish notions such as emotion or character
Crashing this channel
With many survivhors!
finally trully Bravo Nolan indeed
it's over
nolan is finished
he's probably using digital cameras on this one
kek
I will watch this garbage only for the memes
>Due to the distance and over the wind, it was hard to make out what was being said but it was clear that director Christopher Nolan was shouting, running and waving his arms a lot. Indeed, combined with the brown trenchcoat, from our perspective it almost looked like the director was acting in the film himself. At one hilarious point we noted him pointing at one of the various cutouts and then shouting at singer-turned-actor Harry Styles before pointing back towards the cutout and shouting again
Will this be the biggest yet?
Cue DKR fight police fight scene.
>It was difficult to say exactly what he was shouting, but when he pointed at the cutout we could only make out "big guy" and when he pointed at Styles we heard "for you".

>watch Insomnia
>cop says to Robin Williams "we're not a bunch of hotheads
>he then tells Pacino to cool down
Is it me or is the Western Front with the Allies totally exhausted in the media?
Why can't we get a good move if the Eastern Front, you know, where 80% of World War 2 was actually fought between Germans and Russians?
>it was clear that director Christopher Nolan was shouting, running and waving his arms a lot
>shouting, running and waving his arms a lot

>what is stalingrad?
>what is enemy at the gates?

I hope somebody got that on film
you see ivan when you have more men and cold than of weapon you will always win against german because they have no more bullet and they are freeze
Stalingrad is a niche film and it's German, so no one outside of perverts has heard of it.
Enemy at the Gates was just plain bad.
>Come and see
>This is what retards believe
The us produced a shit load of goods and material that won the war
>literally 6 billion movies about Nazis genociding Jews
>no movies about the Croat Ustase genociding Serbs
why is that guys
Russia would've flipped during the cold war. Now too
>Implying that's a war film and not an LSD-induced hallucination.
>No turkroaches genociding movie
Serbian and Armenian genocides never happened
How much diverse would be the cast?
Nobody was safe from Nolan's twisted vision.
>Harry Styles will star in the film

he's either shooting it in IMAX or 70mm.
>IMAX or 70mm.
>or
I'm gonna guess you don't know much about film stock or what it means to say that 65mm is actually 70mm?
all i'm saying is that I know that he's filming it with large-format cameras, but I don't remember which one. I know he likes IMAX a lot but Tarantino mentioned that Nolan was wanting to take advantage of the 70mm infrastructure he set up with Hateful Eight
>Stalingrad is a niche film and it's German, so no one outside of perverts has heard of it.
Are american really this ignorant when it comes to non-american films?
I'm gonna guess you don't know why there's a reason people differentiate IMAX and 70mm.
yep Germany & it's 'BFF' Soviet Union invaded Poland together and kicked off WW2 assfag.
That's a big cutout.

You'd be speaking German instead of Arabic if it wasn't for us, Nigel.
>revolutionary war
>war of 1812
Get on our fucking level
Doesn't change that they both use 70mm film stock and they're only differentiated at all because non-IMAX 70mm cameras are used so rarely until recently
that film played in theatres everywhere here in Canada, dont know why it wouldnt in America
Is Aiden going to be in it!?
>its an 'Americans forget that the British and the Commonwealth brothers fought off the Germans for a year straight before the Russians were forced into the war' episode
Considering Nolan is the natural successor to Spielberg I expect it to be excellent

dropped
>the British and the Commonwealth brothers fought off the Germans for a year straight
not very well though
Britain was in the war?
>It's a "muh country > your country" thread
I actually think this film will literally be Britain just running away from Nazis
I say this because Nolan is outspoken in how he feels the UK fucked him over by not funding his early films. He's also very conservative and moved to America
I don't expect a good portrayal of Britain
Probably have a few tough soldiers to shake their heads at Harry Styles and the pussy general telling them to retreat but that's it
>britbongs shoot nazis
>nazis throw down their guns and charge at the britbongs
>britbongs throw down their guns
>some guy who looks like a mosquito climbs on a tank and then gets shot, his death is never acknowledged
>it's a "Great Britain dooms France by retreating cowardly at Dunkirk and halting any chance for french counter-attack, but still presenting themselves as the heroes of the battle" episode

I expected of Nolan to know a little more history. But english propaganda never sleeps, I guess.
eh, in fairness to Nigel we would be speaking french/not exist.

Is this confirmed 100% to be war drama and not sci-fi/time travel as we had hoped?
Nolan is one of the few big budget directors to actually do original sci-fi, as much as I like war films this is just a massive waste
>original sci-fi

At least that would be historically accurate to us both. Can't ever wrap my head around how some Americans will perceive us as cowards when the Brits were even more unabashed in how frightened they were when escaping off the mainland.
But whatevs.
And to answer your confusion for why Hitler maintained some reluctance not to send Rommel to Dunkirk and wipe out the french garrisons protecting the british escape, that's because he still clutched some hope even in those days that Britain might ally with him. Crazy kraut thought that those celtic+angle fuckers considered themselves "Germanic" and that they'd he swayed to his side.
He's shooting the entire thing in 65mm, standard and IMAX it's the same film stock. It's only 70mm after it's been printed
interstellar, inception
"Parmi les étoiles, je me meurt" would be how we french would name a movie like interstellar.
We have that strange craze of making our movie titles both poetic and pretentious. Pretty dope, hah?

Interstellar was highly influenced by Space Odyssey but it wasn't a ripoff.
