Why did NBC pay for the Nascar rights if they always relegate their coverage to their second or third tier channels?

I can kind of understand it during the Olympics, but they never air Cup races on NBC and when you go to NBC, they're airing shit like infomercials or other shit.

They put in on NBC Sports to promote/force people to watch NBC Sports.
