Post albums that would be better if everyone just plugged straight into their amps and made a regular brit-pop album instead.

Can someone rec me something like this? Ambient/droney shoegaze.

you probably know lovesliescrushing right?
probably the most essential formless ambient shoegaze thing there is

rec me some obscure walls of pure bliss noise

is there any good non-bm mealgaze out there?
i know the angelic process, jesu, and HANL already
kind of looking for a more stoner-y vibe but i'll take pretty much anything

"no"

Ambersmoke, Life In Slow Motion, Wreck and Reference, Airs, Planning For Burial. Pretty much anything on the Flenser label is stuff you might enjoy, haha.

Also I'm gonna be a douche and do a shameless self-plug bc catchier droney metal-gaze is exactly what I make too. :B
debutantemusic.bandcamp.com/album/ep3

Have fun!

awesome thanks pal,
i like airs and planning for burial so i should like that other stuff too

If I slow down a Husker Du song, will it become shoegaze?

They're already shoegaze ;)

all I know is zen arcade is there anything else I should check out from them

The one that came after that

what's so special about this

Some good ass recs

It's really good

i wouldn't say there's anything particularly special or exciting about it. it's just good dreamy shoegaze.

It's pretty
Maybe the prettiest

this album is fucking incredible

how come it hardly ever gets talked about?

because spacemen 3 was better than spiritualized, although spacemen 3 is hardly talked about either

I'm also interested in this

guys I need more like Whirr and Nothing, is there anything out there?!?!?!?

I like Psychocandy, Loveless and Sunbather
what can you niggers recommend from here

The first two Place to Bury Strangers albums.

listen to astrobrite's whitenoise superstar

that's why their second album is so much better

...

lol the truth has been spoken

Although I also think Nowhere has its certain energy because of how close it is to more frantic, melodic, distorted hard rock.

Agreed.

Give me some sad shoegaze for my hikimimori-tier social life when all the cool kids celebrate new year

Weighing Souls With Sand

Grouper 2bh

because the albums that follow and precede it are astronomically better

...

I have nothing to do this weekend, as usual, so I will listen to every album on this picture. Progress in pink n blue.

have fun

>airs.bandcamp.com/album/apart
>iriss.bandcamp.com/ (like early whirr)
>tolust.bandcamp.com/album/lust (pretty much a whirr - sway clone)
Then you got Starflyer 59 if you want some less recent stuff.

What shoegaze album is essential new-year-core?

Alison's Halo is pretty good lads

youtube.com/watch?v=lL7w6tQOCKo

An obvious one.

Was about to link this
youtube.com/watch?v=s4g8hy9m_5Y

youtube.com/watch?v=aa2y0ms8GTY
Say what you want about Boris's shoegaze stuff, I really like this track.

thanks friends

Ambersmoke need more recognition, they could use better quality control but Une Femme and Wear You love Like Heaven are top tier gloomcore

New Album's pretty inconsistent but I'd kill for even an EP from them full of stuff like Spoon and Looprider
Throw in a Flood/Feedbacker-esque track in the middle and it'd be perfect

Say what you will about each respective album/band/whatever,

Which of the Big Three has the best opening track?

Ride - Seagull (1990)
youtube.com/watch?v=In9yq3oNqCg

My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow (1991)
youtube.com/watch?v=OBxJGg6cjqk

Slowdive - Alison (1993)
youtube.com/watch?v=dDg8ZFSkJOY

Alternatively, what's your favorite opening track off any /shugazi/ album?

Only Shallow because not only is a great song it's a great impact and I think surmises the sound and essence of the album well almost immediately.

I didn't realize Ulrich had done another album. Gave it a listen and was pleasantly surprised after his previous one wasn't that great. Pretty much more of the same sound but the mixing is a lot better, sounds crisp and layered.
This song in particular is great. Electronic beats in shoegaze are something that need to be explored more often
youtube.com/watch?v=xPnWZB81R1I

>5 down
>100+ to go
>my ears hurt

What's the best one so far

Yuri Gagarin prolly.

Here's my progress. Favourites in blue.

Check out Windy and Carl
youtu.be/sOtQqxaPVmc
Also Grouper if you haven't listened to her stuff yet

Any other albums like Grandeur of Hair?

How noisy can I get before I'm just listening to Merzbow?

They're all all tip-top tier, but I'm leaning towards Seagull

these are different

fuck, I meant the one i have is different, anyone got the clean version of those?

imo Seagull > Alison > Only Shallow

Favorite /shugazi/ opening is easily Meth of a Rockette's Kick off of Boces - which isn't talked about around here but it's noise pop so w/e

Ask and you shall recieve.

My pick's Seagull but from any album it's gotta be this
youtube.com/watch?v=HG4-Tantvhc

>Seagull > Alison > Only Shallow
You are aware that > means greater than and not less than?

yes and I used it correctly

safe senpai

I fully admit my taste is completely safe. Loveless and VDC are just good, okay?

I havent listened to the other two that much,so they are more or less equal to my book(still pretty sick)

but Alison takes the cake for me,it's one hell of an opener,it incites so many emotions(happiness and sadness at the same time) that brings my enjoyment to the fullest, kudos to Slowdive

Alison>Only Shallow=Seagull

if you had put Leave Them All Behind,I'd rank it higher than mbv

Only Shallow > Seagull = Alison

Alison = Only Shallow >> Seagull

The way that chord gets pitched up then starts the chorus in a new key is super cool
I love his melodies, they're kind of cheesy but work with the dreamy synthy sound he has.

Fuck, that's it for today. There's probably 100 hours of music on this, impossible in 3 days. I have failed already.

At least get to the ambient noise section

o wait nvm

>tfw Spread Your Wings

...

you'll be so patrician I swear

Alison wins that hands down. In terms of favorite shoegaze openers though I'd have to go with one of these two, that first Pale Saints riff instantly puts a smile on my face every time and the Autumn's Gray Solace one is just one of the best dream pop songs I've heard in general on top of perfectly setting the tone for the entire album. It's a shame neither band ever gets mentioned here.

youtube.com/watch?v=Ay9oWB3xdbI

youtube.com/watch?v=1fYd8zAeGKA&list=PLOjuMnuJxXUs7vdn0ui_cm3J6NL6cxskz

Barely dreampop but
>Fade Into You

Also partial to Guggenheim Wax Museum, that one blew me away the first time I heard the album. The ambience starts and you're expecting another Quick One, then BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Oh shit, Fade Into You is the opener isn't it? I think I have to change my vote to that as well, one of those rare songs that gets stuck in your head for weeks on end. Just a shame the rest of the album isn't up to par.

Have you looked into Astrobrite yet? They're pretty damn noisy.

I was actually really surprised by how great the title track at the end.

He'll be just like those guys who made the chart.

Anything similar-sounding out there shugazi brethren?

This FSA kind of has some of his prettiest stuff even though it's all space ambient.

Any recs based on this? One of the first shoegaze songs I listened to that wasn't MBV or Slowdive

youtube.com/watch?v=NRu_ExHrJR0

This version's nice too youtube.com/watch?v=lzkF1_M5ZWM

it is pretty cute

iktf

youtube.com/watch?v=hshHPwda-CE

thanks dude!

these are great, ty user

youtube.com/watch?v=VQMLe5XobBg

hip stuff

The Veldt never get old

...

My sister gifted me a record player for Christmas, and I have no records. What are some /shugazi/ albums worth having on vinyl? I'm thinking Loveless for obvious reasons and Going Blank Again because I love that album.

No problem. Nice song, Alex G has the best sad music

This x1000

Dreams Burn Down and Vapour Trail are some of the best shoegaze though

Nope, I'll check them out, thanks

Picked up the new Autux and Hum's album You'd Prefer an Astronaut today. Going to have a quality soundtrack for driving around tonight.

I've only listened to Stars, definitely need to listen to more of Hum
