So, Star Trek then.
Considering that Stargate was HEAVILY influenced by Star Trek (from the get go), and even the writers and directors and actors acknowledged this. Heck, they make numerous jokes about this in the show. "No jack, we're not naming it the Enterprise".
But as for why I love Star Trek over Star Wars? Star Wars is about one guy. A whiny little bitch of a guy, at that. And about dystopian imperialistic rule (America).
It's irony, because Americans like to think they're the underdogs, while the rest of the world (ESPECIALLY the Middle East, which the US has bombed the shit out of) views the US (rightfully) as the Empire.
Star Trek is about so much more. It's about humanity, and exploration of the universe as much as it's about exploring what it means to be human. (In fact, this is why ST:Enterprise and NuTrek sucks... they completely miss this).
And that's a lot of what StarGate SG1 did as well. And why it was as good as it was, and lasted as long as it did. They explored humanity and what it is to be human, as much as they explored the universe around them.
