Why do Americans shun public transportation?

Why do Americans shun public transportation?

Because our country is fucking massive and it is better to have a car than taking a bus/train.

>F40PH
>not the pinnacle of railway engineering
Pleb

they think it's for peasants

Chances are I wouldn't risk my life riding a Russian or Chinese train.

Because there's no reason to develop a train net if you have developed airports and road net

Russian sapsan train is a fucking joke.

t. car lobby

These things are dirty, they smell like pee, and most of the people who use them are homeless guys or ghetto nigs.

>Russia is small
>China is small

train is better than plane from NY to Washington i think.
Why dont you introduce?

In places that have it, we use it.

I would have to drive for hours to get to a train station.

Almost all of Russia's major cities are clustered. Meanwhile we have fuck-all between major cities.

we have Amtrak connecting all major cities

Duh, that was hard.

I rather take a bus in the usa than risk a russian/chinese train, specially when the bridges are made off Styrofoam/crushed garbage.

>I would have to drive for hours to get to a train station.

That's no coincidence, you know. Remember to thank lobbyists.

It is more expensive and you have to sleep in it (sucks sleeping in trains when you buy it cheap).

Compared to say doing a roadtrip or taking a airplane for a few hours.

I have to drive 6 kilometers to get to another house, okay, I'll thank the lobbyist for that also.

It's 2400 miles between NYC and LA. Almost 800 miles between NYC and Chicago. You see...

Most areas in the country are too spread out so a car is more efficient. For greater distances a plane is faster. Also, convincing Americans to subsidize it like Europe does is a hard sell especially if they live nowhere near a rail line.

Wait, aren't you the country that invented the autobahn and the automobile industry accounts for like 40% of your total GDP?

Even with airport bullshit it's still quicker to fly. Our train tickets aren't that cheap either.

Is it common to americans to do a road trip ALONE?

American railroad network is used mainly for shipping merchandize. Take any FRET engine in France and it'll look a bit like the American one that's shown on that picture.

The railways are mainly for freight and the freight trains have the rights of way. It's hard to make a case for building thousands of miles of new high speed rail when there's already the freeways.

Here are our largest cities. As you see they are far away

No, but it's fun to have a rode trip with your best buds.

> sucks sleeping in trains
It's okay here

rip FFF

what's in your pic is not what people ride there on a daily basis. it is mostly overcrowded subways and buses full of crazy people. they are cucks.

>public transportation

What are you, some kind of godless commie?

We don't shun shit. It's just not practical. America's big as fuck.

The US freight railways are excellent and world-class. They recovered impressively after going bankrupt in the 1970s and being nationalized for a time.

you can only put half an American on this couch, though

> not even electrified

We have planes that don't crash all the time so there is no need to use a train for long distances

It doesn't exist there because of car lobby. And Americans don't understand what they don't have. And what they don't understand - they dislike. They are like big dumb children.

>America's big as fuck
So is China. What's your point?

America was built for motor vehicles. Just look at how our cities/highways are developed. Spending millions of taxpayer dollars on a nationwide new method of transit is simply unpractical and unnecessary.

Again, the huge distances make it very impractical.

So much smaller yet so much better.

The real rationalisation isn't that America is big as fuck, it's that your towns are evenly distributed in 2 dimensions, which makes it hard to plan freight and commuter transport between population centres

My state is getting bullet trains on top of our already great transportation system, soon we will have better railroads than most countries

Although I don't see how a country that will be a Syrian colony in 30 years is better.

America's already Mexico 2.0.

what does it mean to be distributed in 2 dimensions? you mean to say they ahve more spread out population centreS?

Why other large countries have it electrified?

Murrica was mostly developed after the invention of the autombile...so our infrastructure was designed to accommodate it. even in most cities here, a car is practically a necessity. Its part of why we are so fucking fat too, no one needs to walk anywhere

...

Public transport isn't comfy at all and everyone who claims otherwise rides a fancy car with a private driver.

such majestic landmarks of american culture

Why? Nice train, I'm jealous.

Absolument dégoûtant

Yeah I agree Switzerland has better landmarks.

You're preaching to the converted, friendo

it's an old pic pour être honnête, nowadays it looks like that

B-but why? Our trains are ok, I don't remember any accidents with them.

Because gas is cheap

bad rep I guess, same with your airplanes.

I rode this train in the Ukraine between Mariupol and Kiev (built for a soccer game if I understand correctly). It was a nice train, very clean and fast, but I preferred the slow old train you could smoke, sleep, and drink on.

tupolev planes actually had very good safety record considering how much hours they flight.

I was going to say, that picture looks oddly...70s-80s.

Why does Sup Forums think our public transportation is bad? It's really good, it's just no one uses it. There was a new train station built near my house a few years ago. No one is using it

Beyond the complete garbage of their internal city planning, I think Americans are doing it correctly for long distance transport. They put their slow cargo on rails so that people can comfortably drive their own cars on the roads. In Europe you're pushed to walk to the train station to use passenger rail and be blown up by a suicide bomber so that transport trucks can clog our roads. It makes absolutely no sense. It's the exact opposite of what's supposed to happen. Fucking incompetent corporate socialists. Cargo on the rail, people on the road.

I don't know where did you hear anything about our trains tbqh. They are ok. Also our metro is really good.

>Beyond the complete garbage of their internal city planning

Europe's much worse because of cities laid out in the Middle Ages.

Good enough to live in?

Post your local train station Sup Forums

Here's mine, I like it because it employs Canada's only architectural style, the "château style," a mix of French architecture from the Loire Valley and British gothic revival style.

If it's too far to drive then fly

China is big and still extremely poor apart from a few big towns.
Why are you even asking.

>no one CAN walk to anywhere
Fixed that fo you. You simply don't have the option with your limited infrastructure. A walkway is something between parking lot and Walmart, nothing more.

Wouldn't you live in a piece of art?

>city built thousand years ago

Kill yourself, my city is 100 times more efficient than your ancient shithole

kinda

Yes but too much police and security

what the fuck?

There are 9 large train stations in my city for different directions. A lot of small ones.

And 1000 times as souless

>the russian soul
ah yes it is all about the soul kek

My train station services like 9 towns. It's cargo trains only except once a year in autumn when they run a dinner passenger tour.

They're racist snobs, what do you expect?

And that has nothing to do with transport with vehicles and public transport.

And we'd rather preserve our history instead of tearing everything down to make our movement slightly more convenient. You on the other hand had the chance to build cities from the ground up and still fucked it up.

We have planes

What do you mean by soulless? I'd rather have efficiency, cleanliness, and glass buildings than stone and wood shit.

Also tell me how his city has soul and mine doesnt?

You forgot immigrants.

Looks pretty tbqhwy

I'd imagine so what with what with all of those nazis, reds, bandits and mutant monsters

This photo doesn't show all of it, but the other photos make it look ugly to be honest. I think this one was shot when it was newly renovated.

>And we'd rather preserve our history instead of tearing everything down to make our movement slightly more convenient

We did help you get rid of old buildings and modernize once before. Give us and Russia a call if you need it again.

Also the clock with several feet of freely hanging wire to disappear into the wall somewhere else is a disgrace to our engineering, but it may just have only been a temporary solution.

>Be Britbong
>Have the first railway system in the world
>Have some of the shittiest trains & infrastructure
The Victorian era stations are beautiful, tho.

>we have a private company connecting the country so they can price gouge the consumer

god i love living in a country where public transportation keeps things reasonably priced. you can go 500km here on a train for $8

DELETE THIS

Not what I would have expected from Germany honestly. Those colours and that balustrade look like something from Latin America.

The electricity comes mostly from coal so I'm not sure how generating power that way is that much better than the diesel. Also, overhead creates a height clearance problem.

Britain lost its lead as the world's industrial/technology leader by the end of the 19th century; the US and Germany had overtaken you.

...

And now Berlin is known as one of the most soulless, degenerate, ugly piles of shit in the country.

>meanwhile in non-bombed cities

He walked right into that one.
