Ok

desu they were always kind of shitty

sorry

That's like saying the guy on a sinking ship who says "we're sinking" is responsible for the sinking

sorry

They were a huge economic and military rival to you for about 50 years - they weren't always 'shitty'

>they believed we had space weapons!

I was watching the BBC's Cold War series the other day and it made him seem like a pretty nice guy. The east germans seemed to like him a lot and were chanting for him to save them from their shit Hanukkah leader when he visited shortly before the fall of the Berlin wall

[F]

The Facebook generation thinks that Russia always was an Adidas tracksuit wearing, dashcam car crash video and drunk fighting video producer because most of them only use Wikipedia as their main source of information.

Their entire military power was due to uranium and plutonium. Without nukes we could roll over any country on earth in. 2 weeks.

Not him, but they couldn't even survive without American food exports. They were a paper bear.

The Soviet Union was always a poor shithole, don't kid yourself.

What? They're infantry capabilities are incredible and have a huge amount of tanks - they could steam roll Europe easily if they wanted to now, let alone back in the Cold War.

Their*

Military, yeah. Economic? LOLno.

"The Soviet Union built many factories for us, but all of them quickly became obsolete because the Soviets have no technology at all apart from their military."

-- Anwar Sadat

Gorba was a good guy and would have succeded with his reformation plans if it wasnt for the massive economical crisis and stubborn Russian leaders.

I'm sure Vietnam has something to say about that

always been a shithole 2bh
but it was harder to find pics of the squatting slavs on the internet in 1980's

smoke and mirrors
a lot of bluffing in those days

Thank you, Gorby

North Vietnam was almost dead when the PPAs were signed. We could have broken them easily but for the traitorous Democrat left.

This

Top kek

Four rednecks and a hog dog could steamroll Europe, you lot haven't been relevant since the 1950s.

We whooped the shit out of those snake fuckers until our bitch liberals made us stop.

Sorry

>Afghan War
>Chernobyl
>Massive drop in price of oil
>Costly arms race with US

Hardly Gorbachev's fault. The USSR's collapse was decades in the making. I'd say the fall in oil prices was the main factor.

He just left eastern europe without fighting and was weak enoigh to let Yeltsin and other "presidents" of republicas to dissolve the Union despite people voted for keeping it alive in referendum.

good post

A lot of Russians literally think Gorbachev was a CIA plant, citing as evidence that he lives in London and gets all kinds of awards and dick sucking from the US and Europe.

True

Gorbachev didn't kill Russias's Superpower status, Communism did. The collapse was inevitable.

Communism/Socialism has literally never ever worked.

Vietnam is now an ally of the US ;).

Just got back from a trip there in fact. The south is beautiful and doing great. The north is still shit.

Better K:D ratio. Also, Vietnam is a Republic now so we won in the long run.

>muh McDonalds in Hanoi
You people really are burgers

The south is in a better geographical location, better watered, and better farmland than the north, so go figure.

It's the pizza hut man!
youtu.be/fgm14D1jHUw

Sure thing, Cletus.

Its better because they still reject Communism. Officially, the country is """"""""Communist"""""""" but it's pretty clearly a competitive economy down there and you talk to anybody, and they'll openly say the north is a shithole and they like America.

>we lost the fight guys but two generations later we got the country how we want it, you can thank the us for that

they don't know yet that Vietnam is just being merciful to them.

It worked nigga. We killed enough of the commies that the country never truly embraced Communism and basically joined the western coalition a few decades later.

>We could have broken them easily but for the traitorous Democrat left.

>tfw it was a democrat who went to war and a republican who beat the retreat

Soviet economy did pretty good actually, at least before the Brezhnev stagnation and
the big mistakes made by the planners who couldn't keep up with the increased demand from the increasingly urbanized population
who wanted consumer goods and instead doubled down on resource extraction and the military industrial complex. They were hitting all their marks for projected growth however the west was just exceeding its expected growth because of the growing consumption society, which the soviets totally missed out on.
The Soviet economy was also non-competitive outside of resource extraction so the only cash flow they could reliably have was oil and stuff like that, causing them to double down EVEN MORE instead of
reorienting their economy, this also made their economy extremely vulnerable to the fluctuations of the market.
Then you had the creeping inefficiency seeping in because there was no competition(again, not designed to be competitive), Brezhnev and his cronies robbing the country and instating a ruling class of nomenclatura and more, basically very fucky, much potential that could even have been realized by the commies if not for stupidity wasted.
After all that they still consisted of 10-15% of the global economy when they dissolved and there was barely any debt, however history would have it different.

I'm sure everyone's afraid of a country with a per capital GDP of 1900 USD.

You're missing some pieces of the puzzle. This is what happened.

>North Vietnam was exhausted and low on resources
>the final offensive in the spring of 1975 was actually something of a desperation move
>we could have probably stopped them with just air and naval support, not necessarily even ground troops
>however, after Nixon resigned, the Democrats swept the 74 midterms, and as soon as the 94th Congress convened in January 1975, they passed a resolution terminating all US aid to Saigon

The Soviet economy was doing well in the early Brezhnev era, but stagnation increasingly set in after the early 70s.

>The Soviet economy was also non-competitive outside of resource extraction

By the 70s, even many communist states were seeking to buy technology from Western countries rather than the USSR, for example North Korea bought a lot of German and Swiss infrastructure improvements on credit, none of which they ever paid back.

The fall in oil prices during the 80s was a crippling blow to the Soviet economy.

If you americans pride yourselves so much on vietnam, how come your coutnry doesn't give a shit about the vietnam vets who are all homeless and/or fucked in the head.

He just made the inevitable end come earlier. Sooner or later it was going to collapse. Soviet Union was the most profitable for Central Asia, since they got countries with %99 literacy compared to their almost complete illiterate socities before communism. And all of them are still better than their neighbours. But in a world where everything is related with economics, inferior ideology like Communism has zero chance against Capitalism.

Yeltsin was a bigger shipwreck than Gorbachev ever was. With a strong leadership like Putin, the process would be less painful for them.

Still flying our old buffaloes?

World superpower who doesn't have food or toilet paper.

I'm not my government.

>The British ambassador to the USSR was being driven around Moscow in April 1961, a few days after Yuri Gagarin's space flight. The driver of the car pulled over to a filling station to get gas, only to be informed that the pumps were out of order. The attendant at the gas station allegedly remarked "We can put a man into space, but we cannot fill a car with gas."

>Soviet Union was the most profitable for Central Asia, since they got countries with %99 literacy compared to their almost complete illiterate societies before communism

That's true, they brought those areas out of the Middle Ages and built roads/schools/factories and abolished child marriage/polygamy/blood feuds and other barbaric shit.

soviet union was a totalitarian communist shithole

russia may still be a shithole but at least it's not commie

This was also kind of true of the more backwards parts of Eastern Europe like Bulgaria and Albania where communism got rid of the remnants of feudalism.

nigga vietnam is more friendly to capitalism now than california

>I don't understand soft power: the post

>whitewash decades of intervention from US, UK, etc just blame Gorbbie.

Nice try.

Russia want WW2 single handedly in both fronts actually. Japan didn't surrender because of the nukes, they did because Russia entered.

>10 FUCKING YEARS wasn't enough apparently

Vietnam had been fighting for several decades before the USA was even involved. They would've kept going. They didn't even have the backing of the USSR at the time. It was an unecessary war and we lost it.

Soviet citizens were poor as a fuck. They changed it without thinking commie shit on capitalism. Now only the old men want to return to the USSR. For the rest, it is a nightmare.

Should have gone for something like National Syndicalism instead of something full retard.

>10 FUCKING YEARS wasn't enough apparently

You could argue over the soundness of LBJ and Nixon's strategies, but they did work insofar as South Vietnam was not invaded until after the US withdrawal and North Vietnam was bled white from attrition.

>Now only the old men want to return to the USSR. For the rest, it is a nightmare.
Average Ivan wants to be a superpower again, but not wait a year to buy a Lada with mechanical brakes.

They never really had the power projection we had. In fact throughout the entire existence of the USSR their economy was only a small fraction the size of our own.

We got shillion petrodollars in the zero years. Even if half of them are stolen by corrupt, the second half was enough to make Russian the second world. We buy imported goods, and thought that now it will always be. But Russian oil fell and falls again in the third world shithole.

>The south is beautiful and doing great. The north is still shit.
What's this, i live in the South but i know this is wrong. Of course the South is better tho.
>Its better because they still reject Communism
Most Vietnamese don't give a shit about communism
>they'll openly say the north is a shithole and they like America.
Almost all Vietnamese like America.

>Russia went from a british cryptocolony with huge influence and strength to a 3rd world shit crypto colony because of this man

ok

Do you think your main party will transition from being openly communist to a socialist party, or is the legacy of Ho Chi Minh too strong for that to happen?

How do we save russia from economic oil dependency

> The attendant at the gas station allegedly remarked "We can put a man into space, but we cannot fill a car with gas."

Best sign of being a colony.

You know 3rd world shitholes have brilliant coffee/cacao industry and at the same time there are wars, genocides and revolutions.

Same with Russia. It was hungry shithole with good space industry and army.

Literal colony.

We have to stop money flow to West. Unfortunately, it's close to impossible.

1) nobody wants to help us

2) european mafia who earn money on cooperating with russian oligarch will be against it and will help oligarchs.

post your worst soviet pics

There's only party anyway, also it's only communist in name.

It's not chimping out or doing stupid shits like North Korea. I hope it will become more socialistm in the future.

Revisionism set in under Khrushchev and Brezhnev.

Gorby was just the final capitalist nail in the coffin.

This.

The Soviet economy was fine for most of its history. The increase on military spending was a huge mistake in hindsight, but given the fact that from its very founding it was attacked by external forces, and the US' sabre-rattling, it's not hard to see why they did it. They were always playing catch-up and went through 3 devastating wars in 30 years, yet the USSR still pulled through to become a superpower.

come on lads
contribute

> The increase on military spending was a huge mistake in hindsight

It was planned by british overlords.

Do you live in Saigon?

>all these yanks that think NATO stood a chance in a convential war against the PACT during the cold war

within 1 month, all of eurasia would be under the control of communist forces. Africa would soon follow, along with oceanaia. Then there would be a standoff with america being able to protect the americas indefinitely. But NATO openly admitted they were relying on tactical nukes in the event of a russian breakthrough in western germany

I really wish there was a way to filter flags

The Iron Curtain was constructed to Soviet citizens did not escape from a shithole. It was literally a concentration camp area 1/6 of the land. You have no idea how ordinary people lived in the Soviet Union.

I believe there is with Sup Forums x. Just use the image filter

...

No, i live here.

No he knows

His people constructed this system

wtf is going on there

Oh. What is it like? What do young Viets like to do for fun?

file name

You should have listened.

That looks fun

remember that we're talking about Russia though

comfy

It was fine. Loads of people want it back for a reason. I've done my own research.

rt.com/politics/340158-most-russians-regret-ussr-has/

>Trotskyism

Absolute cancer.

Trotsky was just as authoritarian as Stalin, he was just bitter about losing the power struggle after Lenin's death.

sorrry

Man, thank fuck from all the Eastern Euro countries I was born in Greece. Superpower sure, but it's a living hell for their citizens.

Russians have this whole mysticism thing going, that if they are subdued to someone and don't question him they'll be rewarded in the after life. Go figure.

They had a chance to become a democracy after the Soviet Union and what was their answer? Putin

I read somewhere that's it's the province with the highest GDP per capita, but actually it's not that different.

There're some famous tourists place here, like the Vũng Tàu beaches (actually not very good imo). Bà Rịa is a nice medium-size city. Phú Mỹ is a town in which produces a lot of electricity and fertilizer for the country.
