Sweden is home to one of the big table tennis companies, STIGA, so that's gotta count for something.
Is it a popular sport for casuals? I think 3/4 households in my hometown had a ping pong table in the basement even though no one knows how to play with any skill. I'm surprised it doesn't get any decent coverage in the U.S. even though there's clubs everywhere for it.
in stockholm at least almost every young person has played table tennis in P.E. or at a youth recreation center. its easy to pick up and play casually and can be played during the winter unlike football.
I don't know about classics, but here's last year's World Championship Final.
