I'm a Computer Science and Engineering major and I've always been curious about game dev. Is it true that game programmers are over worked, under paid, and have no job security? I keep hearing stuff like this so I'm not confident that I want to go into game dev.

It depends where you work, I've heard of a lot of different experiences in companies large and small and it really does depend on the company. My job in particular has good enough salary but nothing amazing, It's pretty chill though.
