we have lost an Olympic tournament one time since we could field NBA players on our national team. 2004. We somehow lost to Argentina in semifinals, which put us in the Bronze medal game rather than the gold medal game (which let Argentina win the tournament that year). It was embarrassing and I still don't know how we lost to them.

But anyway, was a fluke and we win every olympic tournament aside from that since 1992. It's kind of unfair but at the same time it was just as unfair to not let us field our best players while other countries could field professional players on their teams.

Though, we still did pretty damn good with just college players. We just didn't win almost every time.

Skimmed through it and it was still close midway through the 3rd. Not that bad.

But to have restrictions like that is telling countries to compete with 1 hand tied behind their back. It's not letting countries compete at their best.

China, Canada, and many countries in Europe have strong basketball presence. Europe has MULTIPLE professional basketball leagues.

It's just that all the really good players from Europe, Canada, etc, end up playing in the NBA because that's where the money is, however they can and do compete for their homelands in international competition, if they have dual citizenship with the US.. well then it depends on if they have what it takes to make the US team or not. If they're a dual citizen and they're good enough for the US team, you bet your ass they compete for the US because they have a better chance at winning. But if they can't? They compete for their birth country.
