Come on, that's not what it was like. It was a union, it meant we shared a king, not that Denmark as a nation or state ruled over us. The Kalmar Union was a political move supported by the nobility of Sweden. It broke up because swedes got angry at danish feudalism (among other things) and rebelled a lil bit - then Christian II responded by inviting his political opponents, both nobility and clergy, to Stockholm with promises of reconciliation and promptly executed a hundred of them in a Mad King-esque display. Among them was the father of Gustav Vasa.
People have no idea how fucking game of thrones our shared history is. It's cool as hell.
