>thinking musical taste is something to be proud about

Sup Forums in a nutshell

I wouldn't say proud as much as I would say comfortable. It's nothing I actively worked at to refine. The music I listen to now is just more fulfilling than what I was listening to five years ago.

this

I'm not proud of my music taste but I am proud of my music knowledge

no im dissapointed in it
I've listen to every top 20 album on all of the genres listed on rym.
my taste is a mixture of tmt, quietus, bookmat, discogs, and the wire

nothing but my taste is fucking original. I try to reset myself by listening to classical and free jazz but nothing changes except me revisiting a genre or artist that I didn't care for on the first listen.
I hate fucking music i'm literally just going on random music sites and listening to artist that not even rym knows about freemusicarchive.org/genre/Musique_Concrete/

gonna kill myself soon once my gf leaves me.

I feel proud around normies but feel inadequate on Sup Forums

i used to care deeply about it, organize my music library, become anxious and excited to talk about my music tastes and eager to impress people with what i listened to. i used to be proud and smug and have to bite my tongue whenever someone would mention they listened to music for normies and plebeians

now i couldn't give less of a shit and despise talking about music with literally anyone, even if they share my identical music tastes or are completely at odds with them

it's liberating

What made the change?

>this is my first time reading a Sup Forums thread in years

jesus christ lol

no but im proud of my race

this
i hate discussing music with anyone even if they like the same bands.
its my own personal relationship with the artist. its not something i wanna share with others

you have to be 18+ to post here

thank you all to restore my faith in this board

operation thread derailment is a go

this desu

>despise talking about music
Why? I can understand not liking wanking over taste but completely abstaining from discussing something you love with someone else who equally cares about the subject is retarded

i grew up mostly

i spent my 18-22 years always trying to introduce people to music and hoping someone would have like the same emotional connection i had with music. i just realized that it doesn't matter and all of that extra shit defeats the purpose of listening to music and stopped making it fun.

now i just listen to what i like and stop looking at it as a chore or like something to be proud off. i seriously wish someone had told me this shit when i was 18 so i wouldn't have been such a gigantic faggot for my entire college years

>poseurtarian tryhard turned bitter asshole
Nice job growing up, user. ;o

> but completely abstaining from discussing something you love with someone else who equally cares about the subject is retarded
because majority of ppl when they go into a conversation already have their mind made up on what they like. anything different is hurting their ego

nah. thats dumb. no one gives a shit about anyones music taste outside Sup Forums

Stop talking to shitty people thenc

pls do share your amazing conversations with strangers about music. I'd like some inspiring stories user

i'm not even bitter, i'm just glad i don't initiate conversations with people about music just so i can unload a list of bands to them while smugly preening and jerking my own cock to it when i get home anymore

i was a gigantic faggot and now i'm just a regular faggot

I only listen to classical music, which I also compose, of course everyone else has inferior taste.

Same here

>Grimes
>Lorde
>Courtney Barnett
>Madonna
>Nico

i'm pretty based even if i say so myself

>despise talking about music with literally anyone
>i'm not even bitter
uh huh

Boo

I see
I was asking because I guess I'm sort of in the phase you were in.
I do feel excited to share my music taste, but at the same time I genuinely want them to discover better music.
I realize that it's a useless endeavour since normies, like with most of their interests, just do with the bare minimum of it but still.

There's nothing amazing or inspiring to say, it's just stimulating conversation that I've made close friends through.

What do you gain from talking to normalplebs about music? Do they have anything insightful or intelligent to say? Honest question. It seems pointless at best or frustrating at worst in my experience.

Boo

LOL

idk I don't talk to people

people just have very specific and personal goals in mind when they initiate conversations about music and i'm over that

i'm sure you impress plenty of people with your music tastes though and i am really happy for you

Boo

yes i am proud of my music taste
whats so bad about that

basking in reflective glory mainly

im so fucking proud its insane

>be 32
>have no job
>living in parents' basement
>dropped out of high school
>never had a job
>never had sex
>never even kissed a girl
>no friends
>just spend the days listening to obscure Estonian folk music and masturbating
Yeah guys I'm super proud of my music taste, bet you're all super jelly of my 3 Tb collection of #rare avant-garde soundboard recordings

are you saying that only guys younger than 18 can have large penises?

>Do they have anything insightful or intelligent to say?
Not really. They have a very basic interest in most things. Music being one of them.
I think it's just a socialisation point for them, not an art form to explore and indulge in.

damn i could never get into estonian folk, i'm so jealous

Feels good to know I objectively have the best taste of this entire board. Only thing holding me back is time and hard drive space. Love this board though.

Hows wizardhood going for you? I'll be one in about a year and half so I'd like to know how it feels to actually attain your magic powers.

>Do they have anything insightful or intelligent to say?
Depends. I've known "normies" (I feel embarrassed just for typing that out) who seem to have fairly uninteresting taste, but who also play instruments and listen to some other stuff on occasion. They just like the "pleb" stuff because they have shit to do and most of the time when they're listening to music they just want something fun, easy and social.

But, I dunno, I don't really talk to people about music that much. My dad is as into music as I am, if not more, so I've always got him and the internets to turn to.

Stop browsing /r9k/.
>They have a very basic interest in most things.
Did you ever stop to think people who aren't interested in music focus their attention on something else? Most people I know who you would describe as plebs have other interests they're passionate about. In fact, they're often more academic or intellectual in nature (for lack of a better word), so I'm not entirely sure why you would feel superior for this.

>i grew up mostly
>people just have very specific and personal goals in mind when they initiate conversations about music
>being a cynic
>having grown up in any sense

>i'm sure you impress plenty of people with your music tastes though and i am really happy for you
>

I've never seen a series of posts so overwhelminly pathetic.

>so I'm not entirely sure why you would feel superior for this.
i need all the confidence i can get fuck off

>Did you ever stop to think people who aren't interested in music focus their attention on something else?
Yeah I did take that into account.
I don't really feel superior since I'm an introvert myself and I guess because of that I found a deeper interest in music. With most normies I talk to they're usually just college students who have a strong interest in social activities like clubbing and eating out.

>student
Well, there you go

>social activities like clubbing and eating out.
These are things people do a few times a week, usually as a way of winding down and not as a primary "interest" as you put it.

lol no

>Anyone else extremely proud of their music taste
you spelled Autism wrong, also no

I also dislike talking about music with everyone because my taste is just so abnormie that it's pointless

just keep reminding yourself that suicide is never an option and youre set

Isaac? Rocio?

i can't even talk about taste on this board

cassettes are the most interesting to taste, because of the many crevices I can put my tongue in.

last time I posted on Sup Forums someone asked if it was higher level Sup Forums posting

I regularly move into the 0th percentile for obscurity on last.fm

but no, being proud of your taste is a silly concept

taste is subjective

if you like it then it's good (for you)

coming to that realization is the thing I'm proud of
that and my willingess to explore and experiment

being proud of the bands you like is a silly thing

this to be honest
i'm indonesian btw

you can't even hide your fedora

>the people that aren't using their taste in music to prop up their egos are the ones with fedoras
lul

Yes. I am also very proud of my cuckoldry fetish.

no but you are

ok

Can anyone tell me what genre of music this is?
I really like it : youtube.com/watch?v=wVuoCydz08s

piano

>jacking off about your "obscure taste"
>"being proud is a silly concept"
lol

Things plebs say:
>taste is subjective

>I know we're all teenage girls on the inside, Sup Forums.
yes

bbb

whos that

elliot rodgers alter ego

There's no valor in taste. You didn't make any of it, you just like it. Who fucking cares?

No but if you chat shit about grime music ill reach for the strap

>tfw you'll never have patrician taste

Underage detected!
they wither after you turn 18, we're just not supposed to tell

>being an insecure and unproductive fuck

No, my music taste sucks, I like The Weeknd.

that better be mixtape weeknd, user
(kiss land is acceptable as well for its uniqueness even though it's a step down)

Trilogy is my favorite, yes. Kissland is ok. The rest sucks.

No, I listen to music because I enjoy it

Yes and no - I find that I keep plateauing, which is to say I'll basically refine my taste and become an expert in whatever type of music I'm interested in, then I'll stagnate, and then I'll find some music direction I don't know anything about that I need to examine.

I just hit my most daunting plateau ever. Since I was a kid I was obsessive with rock music, and since I was 11 that was specifically punk/alternative/noise-type stuff. I went through that branch of music, dismissing genres I didn't like while thoroughly examining ones I did like. Now I feel like I have my favorite things pretty well covered, to the point where I want something new... and it's clear that that new thing is jazz, and specifically bebop.

I'm a total jazz pleb, but now I'm trying to acquaint myself with what kinds of jazz I like. Similar to what I liked in rock, what I like in jazz has been the really cathartic, emotional, soulful, and noisy stuff. In rock I was always into really emotionally earnest, cathartic stuff from The Wedding Present to Amebix, as well as great songwriting like Jawbreaker and Wovenhand.

With jazz, my favorite is Charles Mingus. I've also been enjoying Ornette Coleman, Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, Pete La Roca, Mal Waldron, stuff like that. I'm basically exploring jazz for post-hardcore ears - the soulful, discontent stuff.

It's kinda like being 11 again, only with jazz instead of punk.

Im on acid right now for the first time, I cracked up I dunno why
