>Gomorrah (TV series)
>No. of seasons 2
>No. of episodes 24
Didn't even know this existed as a TV series. Huge fan of the book and the motion picture, downloading this right now. Cheers, bro!

Mate the show is dope, just be warned that you'll hate every character after halfway through the first season

great show

Watched this expecting it to suck but it's actually legit. The guy playing Ciro is really fucking good.

>Gomorra.Stagione1 ETA 3h
Can't fucking wait, man! You made my day, thanks again.

itafag here, never expected people on Sup Forums to watch or even know italian tv shows.
>mfw have to watch this with subtitles cause they speak napoli language
also watch romanzo criminale (both the movie and the tv series)

romanzo criminale is the shit mate, CO TANTI SALUTI DA PARTE DER LIBANO

do you speak italian?
if so, watch this: youtube.com/watch?v=j21kVpx8UYo
they're some blokes from Rome, they started their web series, became popular, started working on tv and now they recently had their own movie out in theatres. This is a very hilarious parody of romanzo criminale, it has some little jokes here and there that only an italian would get, but i'd say 90% of the video is perfectly enjoyable if you speak italian. it features actors from the series making a cameo, too. They also have videos with english subs, but this is their peak.

more "things" happened in the last episode of this series than in 6 series of game of thrones. pretty good. they manage to maintain a good pacing without resorting to le shocking killings.

fun fact: i know the dude on the right (savio).

I love Italian cinema, but you're right, your TV series are not well-known outside Italy. The only series I remember following was "La Piovra", a very-very long time ago.

they're not well known because they're shit, mostly. basically all tv productions are cheesy latin style soap operas. there's this very nice tv show called "boris" which is set on the set of one of these shows (forgive the wordplay) and makes fun of the whole soap opera world. it sorta reminds me of scrubs, it's very funny. it's on netflix in italy, don't know about other countries. Boris, Romanzo criminale and gomorra are the only italian tv shows that a foreigner would find watchable, in my opinion

Just started watching this a few weeks ago and am all caught up. I enjoy the hell out of getting two episodes a week.

Honestly I didn't really start hating Ciro until the second season and even now I like him more than most.

Isn't Netflix supposed to get this soon? I'd love to see this get more exposure as I really can't talk about it with anyone. Even online it doesn't have a huge presence though it's just now getting talked about in the places I frequent.

>Isn't Netflix supposed to get this soon?
Not gonna happen, at least not soon. The show is produced by Sky italia, so they're not gonna give the rights to netflix cause they want more people to subscribe to their cable tv service. For example, Netflix arrived to Italy around a year ago, and it still doesn't have House of Cards because Sky bought the exclusive rights to show it when the first season came out.

>Boris, Romanzo criminale and gomorra
thx for the suggestions

I think it's the biggest Italian show in quite a while, Sky Atlantic broadcasts it over here and Le sophisticated paper for hipsters (i.e. the Guardian) did a big thing on how it's back and a real breakaway from most standard cop shows

Question for you, and other Italians, what do you make of Saviano at this point? Is he still respected or is it more a case of him riding on the success of his first book? I read zerozerozero a while ago and it wasn't nearly as good as Gomorrah.

not the same itafag,

from the "artistic point" I think he's riding the success of the first book, but to be fair the guy has receveid a lot of death threats and he is still under protection with 24/7 policemen escort, so I don't know how much you can write looking over your shoulders every 5 minutes.

I think he's respected for his work, but half of that respect probably is due to fact that he is risking a lot for having wrote a lot (and in detail) about the italian organized crime

no probs. good luck finding subtitles.

I think people here have mixed feelings about him. What he did in order to be able to write his first book is heroic to say the least, and the fact that he's alive and well is unironically remarkable, but he's definitely been riding his success. He's been kind of building his persona since the beginning. I remember he came to give a speech at my high school very soon after Gomorra (the book) had been published. I had already heard of him, my mom's a librarian so we constantly talk about books, but neither him or his book were in any way as popular as they are now. Still, the school looked like fucking Alcatraz that day, guards everywhere, guns everywhere, suspicious looks and all that. People respect him a lot I guess, I do too, but I think what the public doesn't like about him is the fact that he sort of feels entitled to express his opinion about every thing. Which is perfectly fine, don't get me wrong, but the way he writes his newspaper articles and social media posts always gives this subtle "I'm smarter/better than you, so you should think the same way I do" feel that sometimes gets people mad. Just my two cents.

I'm lucky that this show airs in Brazil, catching up the 1st season.

That makes sense. It's always dangerous when a journalist becomes bigger than the story that they're reporting on. Zerozerozero had a lot of self-analysis and meditative chapters which were cool at first but then got boring - although that being said Italian media has a very distinct way of writing things.

You should check out McMafia if you're at all interested in similar books

It's like when you mention Roberto Saviano people don't think about his book and the terrible things that he told in it. They rather think "oh, he's the guy who wrote that book and now is a dead man walking and has to live under protection 24/7". He definitely became bigger than the story, yes.

I live in Norway, and we get it on HBO Nordic. Its the best show airing atm.

Is season 2 any good

>it's Ciro escapes sure death episode

Is the TV show better than the movie?

Yes, but the show has a different feel to it. Its still gritty and realistic, but not in the documentary kinda way the movie was. Kinda hard to explain, but its a great show.
