It's just the scores of someones first listen's to cardiacs albums.
First time i listened to them I would have felt the same, it's not the sort of stuff you can just listen to once or twice and grasp.
I thought heaven born and guns were shite, and now they have gone through periods of being my favorite albums.
They just have a very unique musical vocabulary that until you sort of have some processed it's all quite alienating and keeps you from liking it. I usually just liked one track from an album before falling in love with all of them, as happened with all the side projects as well.
Sing to god is one of the more boring (not boring or bad as it is still cardiacs of course) albums from them for me now, my least listened to one (including live albums and side projects). Was my favorite at first.
