It's a manga that's been running for 20+ years now, and it's pretty incredible. One of the things that's most interesting about it, is that the author has basically reinvented himself in his style several times throughout the series, while still keeping it true to its roots. During the first 10 volumes (referred to collectively as the "Golden Age" arc), it's basically gritty 80s style manga of purely dark medieval warfare, becoming borderlined historical fiction. but in volumes 11-12+ literally hell opens up and pours itself onto earth evil dead style but in a completely serious manner. Over the next ~5 volumes you have every bit of bad in his world corrupted and risen to full blown demonic rape-fests; corrupt priests burning everyone at the stake, packs of roving goblins kidnapping women, raping and impregnating them to make more monsters, an evil god-emporer who tries to take over the world etc. It then turns into a traditional swords/sorcery fantasy where Guts assembles a team of rag-tag heroes to destroy the five God Hands of hell, one of whom was his best friend and rival during the Golden Age.

Susumu Hirasawa did an amazing job with the music for Berserk.
Should check out some of the songs he's done for the 2016 anime.
Some of it is pretty amazing, I can't wait to download the OST. Specifically the scene at the end of episode 9, it was phenomenal.

just binged the original series and the new 2016 anime yesterday and today. fucking amazing. I read all the manga thats out and just need more. Any news on the consistency of new chapters?

For a while now we've gotten a new chapter at the end of every month, so pretty consistent.
How do you like the new anime?
I think overall it's not that great on its own, but if you already know the manga, it's fun. Some scenes are very well done and are really great, rest can range from bad to good, though. Overall, I'm really enjoying it.

That's a hard decision.
I think I'm actually gonna go with Lynette on his one, I think she's much more personable and I'd have a better time being with her. Darjeeling seems like the kind of person you'd have a reason to being together with, but Lynne's the type you'd want to be with whenever, for no reason at all, just because you want to be with her

I mean the animation is almost painful to watch at first but as it progresses it grows on you. They cut out a ton but i agree its fun to just watch the manga be animated. There is still two more episodes in the season i think.

I'm not saying I'd ever deny being with Darjeeling, but I wouldn't feel as comfortable wanting to spend time with her as I would with Lynne.
Lynne's so kind she'd definitely want to spend time with you, I feel like Darjeeling wouldn't want to or she'd make you feel like you have to prove yourself.
Agreed, the animation's not the greatest, but I definitely got past it early on. And yeah just as you said, it's still fun to watch.
I believe 2 more episodes, shame it'll be over so quickly.

You shouldn't have to try and prove yourself to be with someone, that's not a relationship built on love and understanding.
You'd be too stressed out worrying if you're good enough for her.
That being said, you should always do your best for the one you love, but it's not like it's a competition or anything.

Oh sure, sure, I agree with that.
Just not in the case that Darjeeling would be that kind of person.
I see her as kind of haughty and always toying with people, as if she's better than them.
Not as bad as that sounds, but kind of in a mostly teasing way, but sort of serious.
I just wouldn't feel comfortable being with her, like she's too good for me.
Actually that's how I feel about all girls, but moreso with Darjeeling.
