You absolutely can relocate a cap. It's a through mount, you could get a new cap, and lay it on its side at a 90 degree angle, or you could just run a couple wires to a cap and hot glue it somewhere. Then if you wanted, you could easily put it back to original.
If you are pulling out a hack saw for this kind of stuff, you're doing it wrong.
