Why is it called Laughing Stock? I never really thought about it before but I don't really get the relevance.
>inb4 "because anyone who likes it is a laughing stock"

I have a couple personal theories OP.
>Since Spirit of Eden flopped, Talk Talk proudly and tongue-in-cheekly referred to themselves as the "Laughingstock" of all current music artists.
>EMI is the "Laughing Stock" of THE music industry, since they gave Mark so much trouble in releasing this LP.
>The animals on the cover are the "stock" (a stock of animals), and they are laughing at modern day humans. This goes with Hollis's disdain for people and the industry, and how far we've fallen from the beggining (represented in the music)
>Or maybe it just rolls off the tongue well because it rhymes with Talk Talk
>stock
>talk
>rhymes
wh-what is this accent
i think u might have the accent buddy
>Tawk
>Stawk
I thought this was common? How do you say it
Are you retarded or a Non-native English speaker?
St-Ah-Ck
what is wrong with you guys?
Stack? Like a "stack" of cards? Are you from Boston?
No, like lock
Idk m8s I just pronounce the words how they're written like everyone else. notice how they use totally different vowels, hence the not rhyming
I'm guessing this is some weird American thing but given that we're talking (sorry, 'tocking') about an album named by a fellow bong, rhyming defo wasn't the intention
so it rhymes in Britain and almost rhymes in US
>it rhymes in Britain
no it doesn't
how does it feel to be a laughing stock?
It doesn't rhyme in Britain, we pronounce talk... 'tawlk' I guess. and stock with a short 'oh' sound like in that link.
I think the issue here is that the short 'oh' and the 'al' sound almost identical in most American accents.
This thread took a weird turn.
this whole thread derailed because of a rhyme
anyway. they made good 80s new wave pop bullshit too. ITS MY LIFE is cool
Maybe if you're a Brit you might pronounce the Talk a bit harder
St-o-k
T-o-k
I don't see why this is so hard to conceive.
This thread is making me laugh so goddamn hard holy shit

what the fuck is happening here
Best song on Laughing Stalk?
For me it's definitely New Grass
Agreed. Makes me cry like a bitch 7 times out of 10.
ASCENSION DAY
Though I highly prefer Spirit of Eden tbqhwy
It's New Grass user, probably one of my favourite songs.
How can you prefer Spirit of Eden?
Great album still but Laughing Stock has Myrrhman, Ascension Day, After The Flood and fucking New Grass
I much prefer when the band freaks out with those bursts or intense crescendos, which occur a lot more on SoE, like the track Eden with "EVERYBODY NEEDS SOMEONE TO LIVE BY" or the end of Desire. Gives me goosebumps every time.
The intro to New Grass is the best piece of music ever recorded
Have this hidden gem, Talk Talk fans
youtube.com
I think the whole album is about Judaism/Christianity, but when ever i mention this I am in fact the laughing stock
really makes you think
damn...
So titles like this are usually at least a double entendre.
Meaning 1:
what he said in the first two
Meaning 2:
kind of what he said in the third thing, the people who laugh at them are animals, they are beneath them
Meaning 3:
we're all animals, we're all just a bunch of animals, and our situation is laughable
so to summarize:
1) making fun of the band itself for being such silly failures
2) making fun of the bands critics for being such blind idiots
3) making fun of humanity in general for being a bunch of blind silly idiot failures
Nice, thanks. It's on Spotify too
wtf New Grass is just ok, After the Flood is where its at my dudes
what's more pleb?
people that havent heard of talk talk laughing stock and spirit of eden
OR
people that don't like laughing stock and spirit of eden but do know what it is.
I assure you there is no answer btw
