Bait notwithstanding, the cost of developing a console is frontloaded in R&D. Production itself isn't pricey. Personally I think consoles are overpriced, since you're just buying a computer with limited features and cheaper components than a home built PC, but the only thing that matters is supply and demand.

Unless you own a studio I wouldn't go top end on v-drums. ~$1.5k will get you a perfectly good kit that feels nice, customizable and you can EQ externally with software anyway.
