What does Sup Forums think about rats?

What does Sup Forums think about rats?
personally I find them fascinating, and think that with some thousands of years to evolve they would be a new sentient species on the planet.

I work in a pet store and see them every day, they solve problems and work together already which is astounding, in most species this is merely instinct but to rats it seems the actual concept of "If I help him he will help me" exists, they also as i have noticed spend quite a lot of time on their hind limbs, whether to look at things or just to rest they put their front paws in the air, like pic related. could this be the precourser to an evolutionary leap? where rats begin to walk on two legs?
they also have very dexterous hands for animals, though lacking thumbs the fingers are so far apart i could imagine them never needing a thumb or appendage like it.

I'm considering buying a rat to run some experiments on, would Sup Forums be interested in seeing those when I actually do?

have had rats as pets in the past
i love them
although some are assholes and like to chew wires and clothes

What do you mean not need a thumb? imagine a task like turning a screwdriver, fucking impossible without a thumb. Dumbshit.

come on /b this is the kind of stuff that belongs here, a true random thread not the bullshit that inhabits this board today. everyone is complaining about the trap and porn threads but when a legitimate thread comes along they wont take part.

i love my rat

not true the hand would just have to grasp like a claw around the edges of a circle. the screw driver would be made differently for their hand to fit tightly around the edges

i had several pet rats,

they are nice. almost like little dogs. intelligent, friendly, cuddly, mostly clean. eat pretty much anything. cheap to keep.

problem is they dont live long. usually die after a little more than 2 years, almost always get cancer. had mixed pairs as well as single ones. from my personal experience, single males bond best with you.

what do you think of them on an intellectual level user?

im thinking of starting what essentially equates to a eugenics program to speed along their evolution

that is a good rat. name?

Yea, because its much easier to rotate the entire wrist and forearm rather than sliding 2 fingers across the top of the thumb

I don't care about bonding, though that wouldn't be unwelcome, what i care about is breeding. is there a more intelligent species of rat? what is it if so?

thnx. his name is rocko

negroid i never said it was easier or even more efficient, merely plausible.

Rats are cool. I had a couple as pets for a few years. They are super smart I had a few as pets for a couple years. Each one learned its own name and would come when called. I wished they lived longer, that's the only thing I hated about them. Pic related my first rat his name was Wendell.

i do not currently have any rats, i have a ferret however which is not nearly so intelligent however larger it is.

do you think they understood that the name was their identity? or do you believe they were coming to something they were conditioned to respond too?

mighty fine pets mate! enjoy this short video from out sponsor.

This was Wendell's cage mate. His name was lance.

I really believe that they understood it was thier identity. Rats are was smarter then people give them credit for.

aww very selfish of the little rat, i like that, a good thing for a species to evolve.

not that i know off, domesticated rats that are not the wild brown ones are pretty much all the same. Some rats are smarter than others but i would say there are all relatively smart in general.

Expect a batch of 5-15 children every 2-3 months. if you keep the mother well fed and relaxed you can bring through a lot of healthy pups. watch out for stress or lack-of-space induced cannibalism though.

rats grow with hormone intake, males more than females. my biggest alpha male rat who gave his seed for at least 15 generations of offspring was almost the size of a rabbit and weight almost 2 pounds.

Bitch I know you didnt, Im just being an insufferable douche

oh i know i work in a pet store, i watched one figure out how to disassemble the light fixture above his cage after a maintenance guy did it in front of him

any particular reason for the name?

They already are sentient, you're thinking of sapient

lack of space will not be an issue.
i have a 400 gallon tank system being made for them even as we speak.

the size thing is good to know, they must grow and the bigger they get the better.

I've kept at least one as a pet for most of my adult life. My last rat died about 3 years ago. I miss them terribly. I have other pets now, when a few of them die I'm breaking out the rat cage again.

gj heres some porn

When I got him I had just recently watch Monty Python and the holy grail, and I always liked sir lance a lot in that movie. That's why I named him that.

excuse
me you're right, i actually typed sapient first then corrected myself.
how much space does one rat need? i am planning on keeping 20 or so

fair enough.

I had a rat when I was a child. They are very cute and smart animals. Part of thr deal with my parents for getting a pet was that I had to clean the cage, but lazy as I was, I trained the rat to shit and piss in a small bowl with cat litterbox gravel or whatever that's called. That way I didn't have to clean the cage as often. His name was Fratsel btw

idk. I only ever kept 3 or fewer in my 6 cubic foot cage. I'm sure a google search would provide some good minimum housing guidelines for pets. If they are lab/breeding farm animals they might have different requirements too.

They like vertical space with platforms too. Natural climbers, but can't hang like squirrels.

This is essentially the Tank thats being build. suggestions on how to effectively test their IQ would be welcomed.

please elaborate

Rats are among the smartest, most complex animals

But because of that their psychology can get nutty. I had an albino rat as a kid that would get insanely jealous if I pet another animal, slam itself against the cage and squeal.

Then one night it chewed a way out of it's cage and went on a killing spree. Tore my guinea pig's throat out, ate two gerbil's guts, and chased my rabbit around its cage until it died

We found it in the dead rabbits cage covered in blood. Ran right over to us expecting to get picked up and pet

I have a pet rat with a big dick, I let him cum on my face

thank you that was good information. the tanks i am building consist of sections of differing heights, so the main compartment i will make sure is at least eight feet in height.

undesirables? If you are breeding with purpose why not donate the undesirables to be adopted pets or even cull them to reduce expenses?

God, I'd have loved to have sucked that bad boy rat's cock!

first because they cannot leave the experiment area for records purposes.

second because while they themselves will have some undesirable traits their genes may still be of use.
i will extract a small portion of their cells and mix it with a deterget, then i will heat it to 50 degrees celsius or so, and add ethanol that has been chilled to the solution, this will cause the genes to disassociate from the nucleus and become visible, undesirable genes will be identified and from the breeding pool i can remove the other rats with those genes before they contaminate everything else

a yandere rat? are you serious?

that is the exact kind of rat im wishing to breed, extremely ingenious for an animal that small.

I, for one, welcome our new rat overlords.

the dubs have spoken.

im honestly not sure about the legality of what im doing, technically eugenics is only illegal when in regards to humanity correct?

can anyone think of any flaws with this tank? any experianced rat keepers want to inform me of a problem with the design?

i meant literal scientific experiments.

You've obviously never seen a tank before. Where's the thread? How will it move? Where's the cannon?

Only if they have big dicks

lol that was extremely clever user i got me really good.

the penises are usually relatively small, but they have gigantic testicles.

breeding will be done with extreme rapidity, im not sure what drives a rat to orgasm or if a big penis is even relevant in that matter, but if it does matter they will have giant schlongs

yes i always found this particularly odd, why must their balls be so large? is it a heat displacement thing?

also i have thought of a problem with my own design, males and females must be separate. cannot exchange genetic material without my knowledge.

We need 30 pound rats that have an IQ of 80 within the next 20 years.

this is what I'm aiming to do, though it will most likely be 30 or 40, or even more. rats breeding rate is impressive to say the least, so it may help things along considerably

Put me on the list to get one once they get to where you want them. I would love to have a big ass rat like that.

this is pretty much what they will do if you keep them to themselves. give them food and room and they will multiply.

possible. i guess its also so that the males can breed several females effectively with quality sperm.

size will not be the biggest issue, that is actually very easy to breed out of animals.

rats from my research appear to have a psychological issue with being too heavy, at about two pounds the reduce their intake of food. however on the diet i intend to feed them it will be near impossible not to build muscle.

There is no rat hierarchy or alpha rat that breeds with all the females like there is with apes. Apes have very small testicles because the Alpha has no competition. So he doesn't need large amounts of sperm. Rats all compete against each other, so more sperm = more chance of that male rat successfully impregnating a female.

yes if i left them alone for say 4 million years they may breed themselves into some kind of sapient form. But i intend to accelerate that artificially as fast as possible. i also intend to take hormones from the undesirable rats and inject them into the female breeding rats i wish to use, to keep them in essentially a permanent state of heat. breeding at an accelerated rate even for rats.

also i have since researched it, it is because they have essentially rat gangbangs and the balls must pump sperm through all of the other rats sperm already within the female.

Artist name or sauce?

yes i have looked this up. i intend to create an artificial hierarchy though.

i can do one better.

...

...

You think we will ha e be better gene manipulation tools (at a decent price) in the next 15 years that will speed up your project immensely? We really could make another sentient species in the next 40 years. I would love to get in on that myself. Although instead of rats I would like orangutans. But sadly you can't really own them. But the potential is crazy

...

That is not proper bedding and you are hurting him with it.

thats it, the artist died about a year ago leaving this unfinished.

yes it is, if you're up to it I'd like help with my research, any and all input is welcome, i will be posting my findings to a document online and can grab a link for you if you wish. so far all i have is a design for the tank.

Where is that guy from earlier that makes the black guys turn white with Photoshop. The nigger is ruining it for me

have no idea
i actually like the nigger in this, for me loli is not about being attracted to children, i despise children and the very idea of one of my own makes me want to vomit.
i enjoy the fact that she is uncomfortable her genitals being tortured by something too large.

Actually I am finishing up my degree in Chem E right now. I could easily look up some genetics info and contribute what I can. You know those Rich powerful fucks at the top are doing crazy shit too with all the animal/human gene splicing. Have you read any of those papers?

Not that user, but I own 2 pet rats and I swear those little fuckers know how to manipulate me.
They also are smart enough to communicate with me, at least on a basic level. When their food bowl is empty they flip it so I know to refill it.
They've also 'barricaded' themselves into a corner using their food bowl and plastic house when they wanted more peace and less noise/light

Get 10,000 rats, select the 600(atleast) smartest ones.
Cross breed for genetic diversity, have 3 crosses per female, breed till you have 10,000
,Have another selection of the smartest.
Continue for 20 years, you might have rats that can start weird af threads on /b

no I'm actually only beginning the research. construction of the tank has begun but slowly i am saving money.
at least rats are cheap. i would love if you linked me to some of those papers that would be very interesting.

yes rats are very ingenious, something i will be trying to breed out of them is their tendency to communicate non vocally. rats that "speak more" or are amicable to being trained to make noise for food will be kept over any that show reluctance.

Get 10,000 rats, have them breed, see how old they get and take the offspring from the 600 oldest ones, breed them until have 10,000 crosses, breed the females with 3 sets of genetics for diversity, repeat and continue for 20 years.
you now have rats that stay alive longer.

i would love any contribution, if you put an email youre comfortable with using i will link you to the document.

Owned two rats, over six years. Awesome fucking pets.

Concur. They are as smart as dogs but work together well beyond pack level. Also they do have thumbs pretty much. Look into it. They basically have tiny raccoon hands.

They are also among the few species that have thrived in the mass extinction we've caused.

Like intelligent roaches. They would quickly fill our niche.

Raven and squid would also step up in thier respective niches.

If you do breed them towards intelligence, please be nice to them
the future doesn't need another race of intelligent, jaded assholes in it

several flaws with this.

what if the rats that live longer only did so by some arbitrary variable like how long they spent in the sun or how much they enjoyed running on the wheel. none of this would guarantee rats that live longer. it would be likely but not necessarily for sure.

Ive owned many rats, they are much like humans in that they are not all born equal. Some are smarter, braver, stronger, etc then others. It's really interesting.

Only pet I've had in years that were upsetting to lose, and they have short life spans. Years per month, right?

i think thats exactly what it needs.

remember the concept of a death world the harsher i make their environment the more evolved they will become. to a point that is.

I had 2 rats , one idk fell from his stair in the cage or something , he was paralyzed from the waist down.
`trooper stuck in there just fine but kinda glad in that way he didnt had to sit in the cage all paralyzed.
I used to work in a pet shop im over the whole keep a animal in a tiny cage all day thing.

please elaborate user. did you witness hierarchy? or did you merely notice distinctions between individuals?

they would not be in a tiny cage rather a massive tank.

Tanks are bad for rats unless you clean them super often because they can suffocate from their own funk if there's not much air flow

I currently have a rat, super chill and basically my companion.

You want your species of hyper intelligent super rats to be small.
It is more practical for space travel and they would be more resilient to g forces too

Is there a real difference? Pretty sure my name is just something I'm conditioned to respond to.

I think pretty much anything with a brain fish sized or better has a concept of self if only to avoid predation or to mate by understanding "other" behavior.

do you think if i added a ventalation system it would help? an inflow and outflow for air? keep in mind these will have no top, just a mesh covering.

for helping me out so much Sup Forums heres a picture of my wife!

name?

Your race of rats is going to be retarded inbreds with only 20, you need a population of at least 600.

Rats are my favorite athletes. MJ ain't shit.
youtube.com/watch?v=drnnulHw5CM

I own two rats already, i love them!

twenty to begin with friend. i am not building a 400 gallon tank for 20 rats only. i am going to breed them for about 6 months to get some baseline desirable traits and then add about 300

Most of the rats used in scientific experiments aren't just even inbred. They're nearly genetically identical. It's a helpful side effect of using them for goddamn everything in science, because studies can be easily replicated with functionally no difference in the sample population.

Look into tests already used on squid, ravens, chimps, and toddlers. You'll find many usable testing elements and don't forget Google scholar for other rat intelligence studies.
