Who determines the realistic averages? These numbers seem obviously skewed by multibillionaires and the like. The real average for 20-30 is probably well under 40k.

no, you'll just incur massive amounts of debt and have to start with shitty internships and shit tier jobs.

make something of yourself--learn a skilled trade. weld, plumb, be an electrician. jobs that aren't going away any time soon. jobs that aren't contingent upon fads and trends (i.e. technology jobs). everyone needs to shit. everyone needs electricity. everyone needs metal bits to be held together. the people that do those jobs make fucking BANK, get union protection (with time and experience), and are actually valuable to society.

Yes, a very good idea.

I've tried getting into an apprenticeship program for 2 years. It seems to be exclusively reserved for the sons of current existing plumbers/welders. I can see why. Starting pay is $17/hr. I have nobody vouching for me so skilled trades is kind of out of the question.

Do you know of anyone who did comp sci who regretted it? I went to college for a bit but only ended up with debt. I want to have something to show for it by getting an actual degree maybe.

I hope so man. Starting community college in the spring. I'm 25 now. Is 29ish too old to be graduating for comp sci?

That's about the average, dude. 16 an hour at 40 is pretty realistic. The national "average" is usually skewed by billlionaires.

Half the national averages and it's more accurate. Most people who make over 40k a year by 25 are basically set for life. They're the rare exception, not the rule.

I tried. You can't get into an apprenticeship without blood relations. If you go to school for a trade, it's hard to get into a union without blood ties, which means you're stuck working for a shitty plumber boss at $13/hr. I've seen it and I don't want to repeat that mistake.

Tech jobs aren't a fad, they are never going away. Hell you can't shit now a days without it going to some data base

If you can teach yourself do it, if not take the debt and go to community college. 703154174 is a fucktard if he thinks technology is a fad.

I write software in the midwest 130k/yr. But I have been doing it 10+ years expect closer to 60k at first job if in midwest, and a bit more on the coasts, but not crazy amounts more.

I keep hearing people recommend computer science both online and in real life. Do you think 29 is too old to graduate though? I'm not a dumbass when it comes to computers. I can probably make up for my lack of education with personal eperience building computers, hobby programming, etc. But I've been scraping by with shit jobs the past 10 years so I haven't had a chance to really focus on computers.

Absolutely. It sounds cliche but if you can put in the work it will be rewarding. Technology is the future user, always has been.

It sounds like you need a change. You can either try to improve your life or keep being a poorfag, and it's completely up to you.

I would feel amazing making 40k at 8 hours a day. All my life I've been making 30k with 12 hour days and I'm really sick of it.

How much do you think someone with no experience could make starting out? And is it really bad to start the career at 29? What if I just stopped at an associates with a dirt cheap community college and self taught myself the rest? Then I could start at 27.

I realisticaly can't teach myself to program after working 12 hours a day at a fucking lumber yard. Every day is exhausting. I just take a bath, eat something, and go to sleep. Not even time for TV. Realistically, I will need to live on loans to focus on learning how to program.

Dude can you take a shitty retail job? They only make like 8k less if full time and you wont have to do intense labour

>personal eperience building computers
mostly useless skill unless you want to work in a hajib shop
>hobby programming
more than enough to make 80k/yr. just finish your degree so companies will take you seriously, actually for real study for the interviews, it's just like an exam, then you're set. If you're halfway competent you'll pull yourself out of poverty quickly.

No BS in Comp Sci, no well paying job.

29 certainly isn't old to do it. I went from a bachelor's in computer animation, to military, to server admin at 31. Just get some certifications and roll with it.

If you keep this attitude, it will. Just stick with it user, it'll be tough, but when you got major cashflow because of YOU, it'll feel pretty fucking good.

I'm switching majors in a big way right now actually, history to geology. I want to work in oil. Its gonna be hard as fuck(math) but imagine how much harder life would be if i didnt have a solid career.

Good luck user

8k is a lot when I can barely afford a roof over my head. I've been looking into working as a night security guard so I can hopefully do my comp sci homework while sitting at a booth somewhere. Hoping that works out. I still won't be able to survive without school loans though.

All I know is very minor HTML. Like six hours worth or less. Like I siad, I'm too exhausted after work to put much time into it anymore. And to top it off, my fucking schedule rotates, so sometimes I work until 8 at night and get called in for 6am the next day. Backbreaking labor. This life is a fucking joke.

Also make contacts. If at all possible get an internship or a college that will actually place you. Degrees don't mean much (they mean something but don't dick ride them to much) . It's not what you know, it is who you know that really matters.

Why not petroluem engineering?

So associate's a no-go? I'll do a bachelor's if the two years of lost work is worth it.

Thanks man. I'll do some certs on the side too. I was working on getting my A+ cert when I was 20, but I got derailed because I got kicked out of my house so I had to do a shitty job for years just to survive.

finish uni at 22. coz that bachelor takes time. get the lowest pay at work at 22 per hour probably. Lying fucknut

Correct, only work part time.

You are poor and mostly know poor people. Heaps of people your age are retired or live well away from where you do, because they can afford to.

to be serious, minor HTML won't get you far. Consider taking e.g. Coursera or local community college courses on nights. Yeah it sucks. I knew a guy who was a security guard, and did night classes on the side. Took a while, but he finished his degree this way. The pay raise is worth the initial investment, if you can handle the work and risk

Yeah, I planned to take full advantage of the job placement at my college. But my college is going to be a community college. Do you really think I can get a decent job with just an associates?

I can't wait until my fucking relatives ask me for loan money so I can tell them to fuck off.
