Sup Forums millennials will never understand

>lit
>bitching about millenials

I'm a old, is "lit" the new nigger word everyone is using?

90's kid. Blockbuster wasn't as great as your nostalgia filter makes it seem. They were usually dirty and were out of the movies you wanted. Honestly there's nothing better about Blockbuster compared to streaming.

>ywn experience the bliss of picking up a snack, renting a movie, and video game while being a care free kid.

why live

You probably lived in some dirty podunk. All the Blockbusters near me wear clean and well stocked.

Can you imagine Blockbuster today if it was presented as a new idea?

You have to drive there, there's a good chance they won't have what you're looking for, and you have to personally RETURN the stupid movie, forcing you to drive back there again.

Blockbuster was a stepping stone to better ways to acquire media.

Sorry not all of us lived in the ghetto like you user

Is using millennials incorrectly a meme or something?

Daily reminder if you were born after 1982 you're a millennial.

I lived in the suburbs. It's not like they cleaned the VHS/DVD cases ever or anything like that.

Oh and I forgot to mention the chance that what you rent would have a chance to be scratched and unwatchable.

this, OP is a fucking retard

This

also when you got the freebie and only had 1 movie and they would almost force you to go look for another one just to charge you something

Jokes on you faggots, we still have a video rental here and it's great. Staff are chilled, helpful and know their shit.

do you live in a flyover state

Who /familyvideo/ here?

>millennials will never understand
you know a millennial is someone born after 1980, so technically they might understand if they are 30+

I don't live in america

>late fees
>have to drive there
>overpriced
>rewind
>no selection
>overpriced candy

ah the good ol' days

My condolences.

Why do so many persons here don't know what a "millennial" is, yet do not abstain from using the term anyway?

when they closed last videoworld (that's what they were called in my country, the biggest chain at least) I just started torrenting movies and that's sad because I used to pay for them

They need a term that means "kids these days" so they can insult them, but have seized on a word that actually means their own generation, so they end up insulting themselves like retards.

Family Video was great. All the normies went to BB so they always had the new release movies and games.

>having to tip the Blockbuster guard every time you enter or leave
>not being able to carry your keys into the store because they could be used for "terrorism"
>the showers were never clean

Why did people like this place again?

Yep. Who they actually mean is genzeers/homelanders.

every time i went there i suddenly had the urge to take a shit every fucking time

I live in NZ, you should try it, you might enjoy the first world.

Free anal inspection on the 1st of every month

Have so many Blockbuster memories with me Dad.

>tfw some asshole already rented season 2.5 of BSG for two weeks a few minutes before me and my dad get there
>tfw we look at the dvds for sale and 2.5 is there for like $60
>tfw says "sorry user, we'll just have to wait."
>tfw almost at the car when my dad grabs me and says "come on" as we head back inside and buy it
>tfw we spent the rest of the night binging BSG

>going to a chain
>not a having musty, old bleak drug store that also rented out tapes in your town

>Go in to rent new release
>Oh it was all taken
>Guess I will paruse the old shit
>Fuck that movie sucked
...
torrents are superior.

>1998
>Not renting WCW vs. NWO for the N64

>Be kid
>Rent from Jumbo Video, Blockbuster, and Rogers Video in town
>Be adult
>All closed

but millennials were the ones begging their moms to let them rent movies

>late fees
>knowing the guy that worked there and getting all your shit swiped off

I once accrued over $100 in late fees and paid like $15.

>walked there because I never lived in the boonies among the appalachian mountain men in the middle of fly over ghetto stank trailer trash towns
>people where I lived are actually decent human beings and rewound tapes
>always a good selection
>not being poorfag status where you can't buy one candy box

Damn it's like all of you lived in poor ass neighborhoods with redneck trash.

Really? I was born in 1997. Why is your old ass even here?

I miss being able to rent shitty fighting and racing games and meme on them for a week or so with your budides then returning it. Like 2/3rds of game made even today are only worth playing for a 2 week period.

torrents are a lot better but i do miss spending time going to blockbuster with my mom. she didn't drive regularly until l was older so we walked about a mile and stopped by macdonald's on the way. and the card was under her name anyway.

it was all over by '99-'00 because i was on IRC downloading movies

>rent a N64, 4 controllers, WCW vs NWO and goldeneye on a Friday sleepover with my friends and parents order pizza

a based childhood 2bh

"Lit" as in lively and full of people

Yeah I always loved having to come back to a blockbuster 3 times to get the right movie. Good times.

>go to Blockbuster
>rent movies that flopped

Millennials have gotten so bad they don't even understand collecting physical media anymore, or even owning physical media in the first place. They think it's a waste of time to wait a mere 20 seconds to watch a movie or tv show by having to insert the disc into a player. They're so impatient. Anytime they have to wait more than 2 seconds for something they get anxious and complacent, and they feel completely lost without the internet as if the whole world suddenly became empty. It's pretty pathetic. The earlier millennials like myself still understand those things though.

Why would you stop visiting a website after reaching a certain age?
Also please leave underage.

Sorry your taste in movies is so narrow. Not Blockbuster's fault.

Not true. I'm 28 and only get things digital now. Collecting physical copies of anything is for fags, and you should probably kill yourself. I'm assuming you're a younger millennial than me as well

They also don't have a vocabulary beyond retarded slang such as lit, squad, bae, etc

Holy shit, is this my family video? Where is this located?

Bro how did you get this far in life with bait that bad?

Tell me about it. It's only going to get worse.

>lolz im such a 90s kid

>oh no! young people torrent their movies for free instead of buying a million boxes and plastic cases!

looks like mine desu lad

You're a millennial too you dumb fuck

unless you are like 35 in which case god damn you are pathetic.

>Being a criminal isn't such a bad thing as long as you aren't killing anyone!

You don't have to understand. You could be less of a bitch though. Might make life easier. How would you feel if your wifi went down and you had to resort to other forms of entertainment besides the internet?

There's literally no point to physical media. It's not out of impatience its out of practicality.

Unless you're some autist that likes to show off his movie collection.

>not automatically going to horror section to find the weirdest looking cover and renting it along with a video game for the same price as a new release

>No point in physical media

There's literally no point in having a fancy watch either, or having a buick, or having a red house, or watching horror movies, or wearing black pants specifically. Your point?

>browsing Horror section
>pick movie based on VHS boxart
>it's shit

The system had its flaws.

>My dorky movie collection is on par with an expensive watch/car

grow up doofus.

>when it's ya birthday and ya mom says you can rent 2 games this time

ITT people who don't realize that before the Internet, renting videos at brick-and-mortar stores was your ONLY option. Stupid nigger fuck millennials can't even conceive of a time before the Internet. KEK

that was kind of the fun of it all though. Telling friends that you watched the movie and they are all geeking out that you saw the sleazy t&a splatter flicks before them. Most of the time, the movie was shit but still had tits and gore

>born in '97

lmao i was born in '90

kill yourself, child

No counter argument? There's no point in having long hair, or wearing a star wars t-shirt, or wearing nike shoes, or eating at wendy's, or playing an instrument. All of these things aren't necessary to life, but many people do them. It's not about money or impressing people. I could give a fuck less what you think of my movie collection. It's not your movie collection.

Don't get me wrong, I like trashy Horror as much as the next guy, but watching crappy Horror has its limits.

>underrated post.

omg, you had to live your house

how awful

This, torrents are fucking magic

tfw economy of my local area is so fucked a family video is still in buisness off movie and videogame rentals because of how broke the town is.

I feel as though I need to clear some things up about why Blockbuster Video is closing, and why they went chapter 11 in the first place a few years ago

>Blockbuster Video used to be owned by a Jew owned company named Viacom
>Viacom are money-grubbing whores
>Viacom buys all of blockbuster's rentals and merch with loans, instead of profits
>every year use profit to pay off loans, take out new loans to buy new merchandise
>blockbuster decides to split from viacom because they are tyrants
>viacom takes all of blockbuster's profits from that year, but does not pay off the loans
>the loans were taken out under blockbuster's name, not viacom's, so the loans technically belong to blockbuster
>viacom does not tell this to blockbuster corporate
>when blockbuster finds out, there is already a shit ton of interest, and viacom has all of their profits
>desperately try every quarter to pay off loans
>1 mil loan becomes 3 mil then 5 mil, finally tens of millions of dollars are owed
>go chapter 11, file for bankruptcy
>Dish network buys Blockbuster Video, because they want to use the iconic Blockbuster Video logo to sell tv subscriptions, plus wants brick and mortar stores to sell tv subscriptions
>closes unprofitable stores that were still around after chapter 11 closings
>has 300 locations left
>all are profitable
>blockbuster is profitable as a whole again, especially in the North East
>fast forward 2 years to 2013
>Dish decides to go exclusively to streaming
>considers selling BBV
>no fewer than 3 companies are interested in buying
>but Dish wants to keep Blockbuster logo for streaming service, cant do that if they sell the company
>decide to liquidate stores, put 3000 people out of work, all over the rights to a logo
>tell employees they are being laid off AFTER telling the news networks

Blockbuster's problem was it was owned by two shitty fucking corporations.

Late fees were such a fucking Jewish scam.

Stealing isn't superior in any case honestly.

>being this old browsing a thai knitting forum

Physical copies do suck dick.

Every time I move I need to lug around 100+ dvd cases, video games etc

>be a lazy nigger
>hurr le jews xd

fuck off faggot

They're belongings like anything else. If you have such a big problem with having to move them don't have them or don't move often. Simple.

18 year old fag here

I remember this feeling, but instead of Blockbuster, it was Hollywood Video. My parents said they had better deals. I think we paid like $15 a month and got to rent three movies each week. It was always on fridays too.
I still remember when our Hollywood Video close, it got turned into a shitty pizza place. I was sad.

Born in th Russian Steppe in 2147 BCE

I miss browsing there but I'm happy to not have to pay so much just to watch a fucking movie these days.

Also in suburbs and that never happened to me. Even with the change from VHS to DVD that still wasn't a thing.

Your local manager was a shitty guy, which is why your Blockbuster experience was so poor

>millennials
i bet your a millennial

I miss that too, entering the store and watching aisles of movies, docus, nintendo cartridges and pop corn, skittles, m&m... I loved that store

No one asked you for this

>18 year old
you know nothing

I know that the last time I went to Blockbuster (before we started using Hollywood Video) I got in trouble for ripping open a Red Vines box and eating a handful of them. I barely remember it. I remember the spanking more vividly though.

>SHUT IT DOWN! Jew detected.

this so fucking hard

im 26 and only once i moved back to my home state after law school, and saw my old undergrad frat become normie / nig central did i start hearing the term 'lit' used as slang

And Porn!!! They carried porn. What you kiddies don't understand, this was truly a "family video". Friday night Dad would get a couple porno's in order to bang Mom. Mom would get a romcom. Kids would get a few children's movies, and sneak a horror film in there.

Now everybody sits at home and jacks off...

you said kids dont get collecting media

he said there is no point to it and you are just agreeing with him by posting examples of other shit that doesnt matter. You have absolutely no way of defending your initial claim that collecting media is in any way worth "getting"
Shut the fuck up

I used to be all over Blockbuster when they got new games. Remember hitting up x3 Blockbusters one Tuesday afternoon to get BioShock. Got home, played 20 minutes, returned it to the store, went and bought it.

I like to show off my movie collection. It always gets a few "ooohhhhs" and "aaahhhhhs".

>new releases were only 3 days
>you could rent entire consoles
>that doorway to the "back room" that had "special interests"

>Be Kind, Please Rewind
And then you finally got one of these guys.

People currently in their early 30s are considered millennials.

Eating trix cereal is pointless. Wearing black pants is pointless. Having a table made of wood is pointless. Dying your hair is pointless. Buying food at a restaurant is pointless. putting your clothing in a closet is pointless. Got any argument for that? Why do you wear tan pants when you could wear black ones? Why would have a red car when you could have a blue one?

Appreciate the effort, but this doesn't factor in some many other variable.

The short story, they were too slow into digital, and Netflix put them out (resulting in everything you listed).

You mean....overpriced.

Glad it's gone.

My public library allows people to rent movies and games like that. The only thing thats worth it is the great selection and that it's free.

Red cars are faster than blue cars.
