What does it feel like to be a pretentious 12 year old?

only rating the bands i feel like i've listened to a ton of stuff from
>The Beatles
incredibly influential, but hardly innovative. 6/10
>The Beach Boys
incredibly influential, and innovative in the grand scheme of pop music. still, their later material without brian weighs them down. 8/10
>Black Sabbath
created the first metal album. extremely influential, although calling them extremely innovative would not be exactly true as they weren't the first to do metal, only the first to do a whole album. 8/10
>Pink Floyd
extremely influential. popularized prog and unified it with DSOTM, but not exactly innovative. just did a lot of things done by greater, more important prog bands/artists earlier well. 7/10
>The Velvet Underground
created arguably the second most influential and important album in history. extremely innovative. 10/10
>liking the beatles, one of the most popular, best selling rock bands of all time makes you pretentious
c'mon son. shitting on people who like the beatles makes you pretentious, not liking them.

>Led Zeppelin
>Lmao terrible
Care to elaborate?

>it's good becuz it sold good :^^ )))

Slaves sold well and people loved it, maybe we should bring back slavery as well?

i'm not saying it's good because it sold well. i'm saying that it's not pretentious to like something when it's as popular and acclaimed as the beatles and in fact just the opposite when you're acting uppity about how shit they are.

you think the stones are better than beatles?

Popularity doesn't dictate objective quality, you mong
Retards will lap anything up

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

The Who

I can't rank them all because I haven't listened to all of them but the Beach Boys probably top it

Idc about phony ass rankings, sabbath will always remain best

You seriously know nothing about 20th century music if you don't rate The Beatles 10/10. They're the best band of all time, it's not even close. Sometimes I think people just don't want to listen to them because they're so well known.

Best to worst

The Beatles 9.5 = Pink Floyd 9.5
The Beach Boys = 9
The Velvet Underground = 8.5
The Rolling Stones = 8.4
The Who = 8.1
The Kinks = 8.05
The Doors = 8
The Stooges = 7
Led Zeppelin = 6
Black Sabbath = 4
Rush = 2.2

Or they just start with Please Please me and think that it`s all about "girls & stuff" and never get to Rubber Soul

Eh, I have listened to all their studio albums at least 5 - 6 times each at a minimum, and while I think they are outstanding, they are certainly not 10s, even at their best they still produced a lot of weak songs. Not just a few bad songs A LOT of bad songs.

Name one bad song on a Beatles album.

Personal taste

The Beatles
The Who
The Kinks
Black Sabbath
The Beach Boys
Pink Floyd
Stooges
Rolling Stones
Rush
Led Zeppelin
The Doors
Velvet Underground

>The Beatles
alright, don't take them for some experimental genius band though, they're a pop band who got bored of playing pop
>Beach Boys
same as above but people will make Brian out to be some tortured genius, yes it's terrible how it turned out but Syd Barrett had a similar thing happen he was just poorer
>Stones
Coked out white guys playing blues rock, nothing to say that hasn't been said already
>Velvet Underground
great band, bit overrated but coming from the NY art rock scene they made an impact in music
>the Who
forgettable Brit rock
>the kinks
on par with the beatles musically
>the Doors
Great psychedelic rock, Morrison was more of a poet than a musician though
>Stooges
I don't have much to say as I haven't explored their music
>Led Zeppelin
black Sabbath did it better
>Black Sabbath
led Zeppelin but better
>Rush
Dad prog, unfortunate that such talented musicians could write such shit music
>Pink Floyd
great psychedelic rock, contrary to popular belief, they are not a prog band but a psychedelic rock band that relied heavily on thematic albums (not a bad thing btw)

Off the top of my head?

Tomorrow never knows
Within you, without you
Love you to
Revolution 9
Sun King
The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill
Wild honey pie
Obladi oblada
Kansas city

There you go, although im sure there is more...

>forgettable Brit rock

I thought America loved The Who. One of the few British rock groups to break their market.

how can you hate wild honey pie
it's so short and fun

All of those are at least good songs, except for Revolution 9 and wild Honey Pie which are barely songs at all.

Cause it sounds like something that belongs in the Earthbound soundtrack and has annoying vocals that claw at the ears.

Those are The Beatle's sons that I distinctly remember heavily disliking, none of them I would give higher then a 3/10. But if you like the, good for you man, hope you keep on enjoying them. But for me I find them bad songs that cast a shadow over the beauty that is The Beatles.

What's with the Zeppelin hate? They're not the best band on the list, but damn if they don't have some good music.

How do you not love the bass on this?
youtube.com/watch?v=hdcsR0YaOE8

I don't think zep is bad at all, just not as good as their contemporaries like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc

They have some passable stuff here and there and Bonham is admittedly a great drummer but Plant is just too obnoxious for me and Page is severely overrated as a guitarist.
