During a heated battle with Ultron, Hawkeye quips about his seeming inadequacy compared to the other Avengers.
“We’re fighting an army of robots — and I have a bow and arrow,” he says. “None of this makes sense.”
“That line is in there because, at some point, someone has to say it — because if you don’t, the audience doesn’t know that you know,” Whedon says of the “Age of Ultron” zinger. “When the audience knows that the characters feel the same way they’d feel about it, it connects them. It’s actually a very important throwaway line.”
Because rubbing the stupidity of what you're seeing right in your face is the mark of genius. Not the ultimate confession of shitty filmmaking.

You can get the same effect with a facial expression from a good actor. Or you can always assume the viewer is an idiot.

I was just [trying to] watch this flick yesterday. There was another line in the first few minutes like this, when hawkeye is getting repaired: Black widow quips something like "the illusion of needing you is what keeps the team together."
I think I turned it off right then actually, threw me out of it. I don't think the world needs a cinematic universe that can't even take itself seriously. If you can't make hawkeye work then write him out. There is an endless stock of marvel avengers timelines to use in these films, and they've already proven themselves comfy with changing everything they fucking want.
Ultron was an ass villain, and that civil war film was so disgustingly inferior to the narrative of the comics I cringed my way through. Whole thing was supposed to start with the bombing of a school.
Whatever, I'll stop the neckbeard rage. Capeshit is great if you turn your brain off.

Hawkeye would never mock himself in that way. Hawkeye as a character was always defined by having a massive chip on his shoulder from people doubting his abilities compared to the other Avengers, and was always fervently yearning to show them up and prove his skill level with his bow put him at the same level as the other Avengers. He would always come through with a tremendous dramatically places trick shot that would be a decisive moment, turning the tide of the battle.

I want to see Apatow and Whedon fight to the death bare handed in an arena where if they refuse to fight, they will both be drowned to death in boiling oil
That's the only conceivable entertainment I see these two people producing.

You know that's not true and I don't see why you've posted it. It's called a lampshade and it's an essential tool of dramatic writing. Everything Whedon has ever done was good, including and especially Dollhouse. This isn't a French New Wave film it's a tentpole and whatever you think there's nothing wrong with increased accessibility. Not everyone in an audience will be staring at the actors' faces every second, some will be checking phones or talking to each other. A line of dialogue drives everything home. Nothing wrong with a popcorn film, elitist. Being a third-generation writer gives you a leg up on being a complete and total master of the craft, though. MCU Hawkeye would, and given the comparative audience he's the one who matters. Deal with it. I want to see you take a bath, lose 50 stone and go outside.
I'm provoking a bunch of losers even though I'm vastly superior to all of them in every aspect. None of this makes sense.

I have become increasingly interested in examining Joss Whedon’s work from a feminist perspective since I had a conversation with another lesbian feminist sister at the International Feminist Summit about whether Joss was a feminist. I am really quite shocked by how readily Joss is accepted as a feminist, and that his works are widely considered to be feminist. I decided to start re-watching Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and also to watch Firefly and the movie Serenity.
I have to say that now that I have subjected myself to the horror that is Firefly, I really am beyond worried about how much men hate us, given that this was written by a man who calls himself a feminist.
I find much of Joss Whedon’s work to be heavily influenced by pornography, and pornographic humour. While I would argue that there are some aspects of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer that are feminist and progressive, there is much that isn’t and I find it highly problematic that there are many very woman-hating messages contained within a show that purports itself as feminism. But Firefly takes misogyny to a new level of terrifying. I am really, really worried that women can call the man who made this show a feminist.

yes he made it as a feminist show but like i said its still misogynistic, just like black widow and doll house and firefly(with its rape threat against the engineer)
even if some feminists call him a 'good ally' or whatever there have always been a number of feminists that call him out for his problematic 'empowering' shows, which is delicious because try as hard as he can he still gets called a sexist pig by the people he's trying to please
Carter Turner
As I pointed out above, Whedon has a femdom fetish. And it shines through in all his work. A stick thin kung-fu princess that can dominate men physically but is emotionally damaged and vulnerable and always ends up needing to be saved by a a man describes so many of his supposedly strong female characters.

>since I had a conversation with another lesbian feminist sister
If you're really a lesbian you should just quit feminism and noone will have a problem with you any more. Noone cares about lesbians, because you don't want men to do your work for you.
The issue with feminists is they want to keep the holy position of the traditional wife, without actually having the virtues she was praised for.
The world doesn't work like that. You get what you deserve, because you earn it, not because you feel entitled to it. Feminism is no better than white supremacy, thinking your skin color somehow entitles you to a higher position in society. Being a female does not automatically entitle you to anything. You need to earn it.
>he made it as a feminist show but like i said its still misogynistic
Luckily that word doesn't translate into my native language...
>>be a feminist >>have the iconic male character of the show attempt to rape the lead female of the show >>play it off as 'we cool" a couple of episodes later
But that is exactly how the feminist victimization works. Wanting freedom from the rapist but not daring to actually go and get it from a fear of taking responsibility for themselves.
It's so much easier to let the rapist pay for you, especially if you're lazy.

No, it was Renner jokingly feigning envy and bitterness that Black Widow chose Hulk over Hawkeye in the movies. When asked about it he acted upset and called her a slut; Evans, obviously getting the joke as he's not an autist laughed too and called her a whore.
Jokingly feigning bitter jealousy on his character's behalf. Only an actual idiot would get offended by it.

Joss whedon was a mistake, a complete abortion and the only good thing he has done was start the Cinematic Universe trend. The Avengers is an overrated blockbluster with no tension or drama at all, if this was another time it would get a 6/10 and it's sequel a 4/10. He ruined Marvel, he set the quippy tone that it's killing those movies, you can thank him for making all of them safe and formulaic clusterfucks, he doesn't care about continuity, he doesn't respect what happened in the other movies. He thinks a character is only good when you make him a clown. ¿Why? because he is extremely inefficient at making dramatic scenes and because he doesn't give a shit about the characters and what they represent. You can give The Avengers to any other filmmaker and they can do a better job than this so-called feminist. Fuck you, Whedon, fuck you.
