Camden Turner
Is cricket a fun game to play at the park or is it annoying to do like baseball?
Ethan Jackson
I'm not really in the mood to have a circular discussion with you, again.
My point is quite simple, I think you are being a little harsh in calling this a shit generation of captaincy.
You cited Cook as an example of a half-decent captain. When he started he was putrid. It took him a solid few years to mature into the role. Kohli, Smith, Kane etc deserve the same opportunity.
And the fact you most recent example you could cite of an all-round great leader retired >15yo ago (and is someone neither of us would be able to reliably recall) sort of refutes your own arguement.
As far as leaders go, Misbah is one of the best ever. Guys like Kane, Kohli could eventually go down as great captains one day as well
Jason Adams
>As far as leaders go, Misbah is one of the best ever. Exactly. Leaders and not captains. This is literally what I was saying. >Guys like Kane, Kohli could eventually go down as great captains one day as well But they're shit now. Reminder it was the Kholi point I made that you first jumped on, but you agree with it now?
Aiden Clark
depends how you play it
I played competitive 2-day grade cricket and honestly you really do have to love the game to play it because it takes away the entire weekend. T20 grade cricket is great for hit and giggle and only takes about ~3 hours, so similar to a pro-baseball game (tho amateur baseball games are shorter IIRC).
But if you just play casually backyard cricket or down at the oval it is great fun.
Aaron King
Yeah m8, it's fun. You get a lot of it during summer, particularly on the beach. Unlike baseball the game isn't as orientated around smashing the ball as far off as you can so it's a lot easier to play.
Aiden Reyes
But I'd argue that the most important attribute in a captain is leadership. I'd go as far as saying in the context of cricket they are synonyms. You cannot possibly be a good captain without being a good leader.
That is why I keep using the Clarke example. Many people consider Clarke to be tactically great, but his leadership was clearly poor and that's why he wasn't a great captain.
Parker Scott
We're both arguing over different points. I've said MULTIPLE times that I agree with you here, but Misbah's tactical ineptitude means he will never be considered "elite". The same goes for AB. Great batsman, great authority figure, but a close minded on field captain.
Aiden Bell
So, australia loses no. 1 ranking today?

It's literally just line and length under pressure. Lyon is a better bowler on paper, but he doesn't know what to do once the Sri Lankans start going after him.
Nolan Gonzalez
MMarsh and Starc will LITERALLY put on a cheeky 250
Luke Edwards
you are now aware that Shitriques was unironically used as a specialist batsman by Smith
Christian Robinson
That wouldn't be possible as there is 215 runs left in the match possible for Australia to get, and by the time Starc (who is scheduled to bat at 8) gets to the crease you would expect even less than that.
David Gonzalez
