first for gold

glad someone made a thread

lots of underated qties in taekwondo

Unfortunately the only reason to watch this really. Find it difficult to take this form of taekwondo seriously.

Yes. Lots of absurd rules just like Olympic Judo

/tkd/ seems fun but I don't know shit about it.
Do french competitors flip their shit when BOOOOOed aswell?

are leg kicks not allowed? are kicks to the head and chest the only ones that score

Kick to the head will yield you the most points but bodyshot works as well.

Spinning kicks give you extra points in these Olympics too.

check

>We have Gold Medal in this
>In Sydney
Kek doesn't surprise me. Apparently there was heavy home crowd bias involved which influenced the judges

That Mexican girl was pretty qt.

We defeated the jew.

Are we going to see people get heemed by roundhouses?

Makes me wonder how Karate is going to turn out in 2020. Probably going to be an EVEN BIGGER clusterfuck since you don't just have a single organisation but a whole umbrella of them.

>MFW It's going to the first and last time we ever see Karate in the Olympics.

Very likely, roundhouse kicks now give you more points than regular kicks.

doesn't answer my question about low kicks though, seems like an obvious strategy to kick the shit out of someones legs

Kicking the other person's legs doesn't really give you any points + I think it even gives you a penalty.

I am all in for more martial Olympics but I wonder how Olympics is going to fuck up Karate in 2020.

Whoops apologies. Thought you were asking about high kicks.

Just had a quick look and you are not allowed to kick or punch below the chest protector. So no it is not allowed.

Like I mean, I'm not sure about the penalty, so, in all fairness, sure, you can injure your opponent and kick his/her legs. But legs are bony and hard and really really hurt to kick. You'll fuck yourself up more than you'll fuck them up.

>Used to do Taekwondo in my early teens
>got to red belt
>go competition
>get rekt by black tag
>quit the week after

Wish I stuck with it desu

Makes me furious that Karate gets in over Muay Thai and even MMA in the Olympics.

Missed out on a gold postbox, lad.

Don't worry about it, they look fucking silly.

Mexicans always have been god tier in TKD but damn that was crazy

>That Mexican girl was pretty qt.
Thanks for noticing us senpai.

No need to watch, already called the fights

1st Worst Korea
2nd Glorious Iran
3rd Capitalist Germany
3rd Belgium

Here in Mexico City there are lots of TKD schools, and competitions are pretty intense.

Mexican got kicked in the head twice by the MexicoLibya.

It's purely the fact that 2020 happened to land in Tokyo, at a time when the WKF was really pushing hard to get Karate into the Olympics.

That's what good timing does for ya.

>Squash still isn't in the Olympics but GOLF is.

Fucking hell.

Mexican got kicked in the head twice by the Libyan. Shows poor defense by the Mexican, given how subpar the Libyan's skills are. I don't think things are looking good for Mexico

>mmameme

Fuck off, mma would be ridiculously out of place in Olympics since its not a fucking discipline. Competititors wouldnt have enough time to recover.
All individual disciplines preceed it by centuries
>muh pankration
Not even the same fucking thing

I heard we had a mohoumad competingvtoday, does he have a chance for a medal?

>This is literally 'leg lift' the competition.

Jesus christ, what even constitutes contact anyway? Seeing, what looked like, clean shots but Judges ain't having it.

>Serbian is literally running away.

The fuck?

What's with all the screaming? It doesn't even seem so much as a scream but more a sound effect from a Mario Kart game

Poor Azerbaijan cutie, I was hoping we could see more of her

They played too much Mortal Kombat.

Are knockouts common or not at all?

Kek, that's exactly it

It's common in non-Olympics TKD competition but not in here.

2004 Olympic heavyweight gold medal was won by a knockout

A couple of knockouts in 2008

Cant remember 2012

this

I suppose its more likely in the prelims because of the huge skill difference between some of the fighters, but typically a top level Korean will just settle for an easy win by point gap over a much weaker opponent, rather than overexert himself at such an early stage going for a knockout

And once you get to the top level guys fighting eachother, their defense is too good to be getting knocked out

>Yellow
Goddamn it China why

Oh god, dem yellow pants

>dem rule changes to make the sport more exciting

>tfw no Jiu Jitsu instead of Tae Kwon Do or even Karate in Olympics

>additional points for knockdowns

It really takes away the control element of a martial art if you are rewarded for just kicking harder

Tae kwondo is actually one of the better combat sports for a spectator.
Non of those boring grapples like in judo or homo erotic starting positions like in the wrestling

>If anything, you should be awarded more points for kicking softer

ARE YOU AUTISTIC?

You can score points without breaking a jaw retard
Its all about self control, this isnt the octagon

anyone got a livestream? too dumb and poor for anything else

Why is BJJ not olympic sport?
Just imagine level of failure if hue dont take gold in BJJ at Brazil

it's unfindable and I don't have permission for any official streams
so you're not the only one

>literally fighting in an octagon

I always thought that was the problem with Boxing as well. Can't Mike Tyson punch guys with more control, instead of punching them harder?

Really want that Spaniard to win because I hate that fucking yellow pants.

Cant wait til Friday when Steven Lopez walks out there in his American flag print pants

Thread theme: youtube.com/watch?v=CzX-LbzWEIw

Also, is TKD a highlight-heavy sport? I'd like to know if I should have OBS running.

What about the MARTIAL element of a MARTIAL art?

Bless you, I will now indulge in Tekken's OST and observe the kicking, praying on a vicious knockout.

That headkick for 3 or 4 points barely connected

Olympics committee should seriously consider replacing WTF with ITF. Too many bullshit rules.

Yes. Si Mohamed Ketbi is his name. He is one of the favorites.

A hexathlon of martial arts would be majestic:
- judo
- tae kwon do
- muay thai
- wrestling
- boxing
- jiu jitsu

Get out of here with your North Korean propaganda

I think Hworang would dominate this shit

Taekwondo sounds so cool and when i watch i realize how stupid it looks in reality

that nigga wears an eyepatch, just because. he would wreck everyone here.

Wtf that's not a hit

Kim Kap Hwan > Kim Hwo Rang

when are they making mma a discipline? it's only a matter of time

In the martial arts there is a thing known as "The Touch of Death" where a skilled martial artist can knock out, seriously damage, or even kill an opponent with a single touch. Taekwondo has simply learned to do this with the toe, rather than the finger

When you look at it that way it's really impressive

Dana's not going to risk any of his millions allowing any of his fighters to show up to any sort of Olympic tournament, so while you probably won't get "beer league" level fighters, it's not like there are college-level MMA systems from which to farm amateur athletes.

REKT
FUCKING REKT

Oh damn, Iran. What a fucking loser.

Will Iran ever recover?

Well, there goes my brackets. Fucking Iran. I hope the supreme leader executes him for being such a faggot

Oh wow

I wish I understood this sport more so could get what's scored and what's not. Some kicks seem to land yet get nothing

Fuck off, chicano.

Can anyone explain why that was worth 3 points, it wasnt against the head?

The electronic scoring system is still new, and all the bugs are still getting worked out. Its a little harder for it to work. Something like Fencing is easier technologically, because its a metal stick. But sensors on a foot are a little harder to get to work just right.

Hot damn, Thailand bitch is cute. Too bad theres a 73% chance shes a boy

spinning kick to the body is now worth 3 points

Just 73%?

You want that kinda stuff, you have to go to track and field right now

literally the fencing of martial arts

Oh okay ty

> no capoeira

Discarded.

This. Met some national athletes for a country I wont name. They were training for the 2012 Olympic qualifications. The girls were max qts. Best of all they could really beat me up. Also the body needed for Taekwondo is great for women. They need to be long and slim but pack good muscle in that booty and thighs.

I hope they would have had BJJ this olympics, just so we could see the overwhelming disappointment on the Brazilian crowd when they failed to win any gold medals

With all this electronic gadget faggotry they might as well be fighting robots.
Come to think of it why not replace tkd with robot wars?

>>This is literally 'leg lift' the competition.

This desu. I'm done with this semen slurping """sport"""

>real steel replaces all combat sports

is a remote-controlled car an athlete?

I never rated this korean lad highly. It would be better for the sport as a whole if he were to lose

yeah fuck him

>no tv
>none of the streams are working
>lurking this thread and not getting anything
someone put me out of my misery

COMEBACK

Don't think Taekwondo is the most entertaining thing to watch honestly
Been disappointed by both this and Judo

claro sports dot com & mex proxy

>Thai boy's yelling sounds just like their normal language

Could Thais be any more sub-human?

Hahaha so bad
