Till I Die was first attempted during the recording of the 20/20 album...

>Till I Die was first attempted during the recording of the 20/20 album. Johnston remembers Brian "playing it for the band and one member of the band didn't understand it and put it down, and Brian just decided not to show it to us for a few months. He just put it away. I mean, he was absolutely crushed. This other person just didn't like it." It has been speculated that it was Mike Love who initially criticized the song.

what the FUCK mike love?

Brian probably should've gone solo right after Pet Sounds
I like that they continued as The Beach Boys but there was way too much conflict
Or, just get rid of Mike Love

>in 1967 Van dyke parks left the Smile sessions because of infighting

fuck mike love

this was the closest they got to resolving that issue
shows that mike doesnt really want to understand, he just wants to be right

damn

>Brian probably should've gone solo right after Pet Sounds
this only happened in the Light timeline
we're on one of the darker ones

:(

The fact that Bruce isn't naming "the person" tells me it's Mike. He's close with Mike (still tours with him) so I'm sure he doesn't wanna throw Mike under the bus cuz he knows people would be pissed to hear that Mike hated Til I Die and scared Brian into nearly shelving it.

someone should write a book & compile everything Mike Love did to ruin Brian's career. seriously.

>Fuck Mike Love: A Compendium

hahaha what a shit head. mike love is a bottomless pit of terrible.

someone post the picture of Mike Love with trump

wtf i hate trump now

...

fuck that guy

>He insisted that he wanted to split the cost of the flight with me, so he gave me a card with his number on it. The next morning, I called to discover it was a disconnected number. And that was the last time I was Mike Love.
He truly is evil.

post rare brians

Why the fuck did they put up with Mike?
>that was the last time I was Mike Love.
WAHT A TWIST

...

I looked this up because I'd never heard this and found this:
>A ''mix-up'' led to the arrest of Brian Wilson, a member of the Beach Boys singing group, and two other men on criminal trespass charges at the Republican National Convention site, a lawyer said.

>The lawyer, Henry Ackels, helped Mr. Wilson, 42 years old, post a $200 bond. The complaint was dropped after officials of the Republican National Committee decided they did not want to prosecute him.

>Sgt. Jody Thomas of the police said the three had asserted they were guests of a person with credentials ''who neglected to escort them back out.''
And I'm fairly certain said person is Mike

imagine how far brian could've gone without mike being an asshole at every turn? it's heartbreaking

Briwi paying respects

...

read this
a great example of mikes behaviour

Yea fuck Mike Love, thinking he's cool enough to hang with Trump!

my favorite gif from that interview

Name a more underrated song, I dare you.

absolutely god-tier song

>that note and chord when he sings "Start up another DAY"

youtube.com/watch?v=DT0UiD6QSIc

In My Room has to be Brain's first master piece

Cabin Essence

>Cabin Essence
>underrated

here's an actual one: youtube.com/watch?v=VFudhpBf0q8

was never released on an album, had a weird couple seconds of silence before the chorus that prevented it from getting widespread radio play, people just sort of forgot about it

great song

Agreed. The ending of Cabin Essence is one of the most haunting things ever written.

>Family Love Michael

I was listening to this song the other day and couldn't help but laugh picturing Love singing the "These things I'll be..." part.

The Elements fire (both the smile version and the 2004 remake) is one the greatest underrated Brian songs ever.

Cabin essence is uneasy at the end but Elements fire..THAT gives me chills

as much as i hate mike, his voice really is great. brian used it so well

If we live in a just world, Mike Love will die long before Brian Wilson.

But we don't live in a just world. Mike Love is going to be the last of the Beach Boys to die.

what i don't get is that, even as a hater of mike love, i think that his voice sounds pretty nice in some songs
example:
youtube.com/watch?v=h2CLfm02EaU
but its like he goes out of his way to make his voice as unbearable as possible
listen to the difference between his voice on that song and this song. why would he choose to sound like this?
youtube.com/watch?v=iBFsJk6PWu0

brian > mike

i mean i wasn't a giant fan of the nasally sound he had on some of their earlier stuff (and obviously summer of love), but when he harmonized with them it was amazing.

his vocals on Here Today are also goat, even though they probably had to drag him to the session kicking and screaming

it should have been a scene from Love & Mercy.

THIS should have been a scene from Love and Mercy

trumps president. brian dies first.

when did it happen?

how can mike still not understand the lyrics to smile can mean anything
how could you go through your life and not even try and understand that
how could you ever enjoy neil young or bob dylan or anyone with slightly abstract lyrics
fuck mike love

the saddest briwi tweets are when he wishes his brothers a happy birthday :'(

Mike Love has the best voice in the Beach Boys

Case in point:
youtube.com/watch?v=xfilXmU4ReM

he really loved his brothers ;_;

she's goin' bald
all i wanna do isn't even underrated, everyone says it's their favorite on sunflower

is this from the made up early 90s autobiography?

i remember reading one of the beach boys (probably brians) was mostly fabricated or ghost written or something.

it was in the biography of carol ann harris, aka lindsey buckingham's girlfriend in the 70s
dennis is in the biography because christie mcvie (member of fleetwood mac) was banging him at the time

damn, the 70s mustve been the best time to be alive. everyone is fucking everyone with drug fueled parties every weekeend

...

love old brian

She's going bald is nice but I can do without the chipmunk part in the middle

according to behind the scenes that bit was nothing more that "heheh trippy lmao" and was not in the spirit of typical beach boys

>If it's not about girls or cars, it's bullshit
-Mike Love

you joke, but i feel like he genuinely believed that despite the fact that by the mid/late 60s everyone was writing arsty psychedelic lyrics, not girl/boy/car songs

honestly even when brian was writing pet sounds and it was still about girls (only sad) mike hated it.

he literally just likes the early surf music they made. idk how they were related, mike is like the antithesis of brian imo

delete this

I don't even listen to the Beach Boys but this thread made me hate Mike Love

heres an essential mike love hate video (watch at 1:30 and 4:00 onwards)
youtube.com/watch?v=oZSAQX2uuUY

was he drunk? this shit is absolutely unbearable to watch

his excuse was that he hadnt eaten in a while
doesnt really excuse decades of bad behavior tho

the juxtaposition of brian's earnestness and love for music and his family with mike's arrogance and condescension

Talent is useless without content and context, and Mike Love always provided Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys with both. For 20 odd years Brian would often hook up with other collaborators (or “new best friends” as author Steven Gaines dubbed them), and produced great work with many of them, but he always would go back to working with his cousin. The concept of the Beach Boys was Brian and Mike’s to begin with, and it provided all these other collaborators with a context to work with and bounce off of. Plus Mike and Brian were the same age, and both grew up in the same grim suburb in the same psychotic, dysfunctional family, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the “purest” Beach Boy songs were always the ones the wrote together.

>id like to see the mop tops top that
>cuts to footage of deceased beattle johns children

jesus he is a cunt

this is one of my favorite videos of all time

I always thought this was a great rock and roll moment. Why do people want a boring , conformist cermeony? This was awkward as hell and added to their legend

kek

> mike is like the antithesis of Brian imo
This is what gives the Beach Boys their great bitter sweet dynamic. There wouldn't be the same magic without Mike's extroverted ying to Brian's sensitive introverted yang

nah mike's just a cunt. i'd feel more sympathy for him if he wasn't a large part of the reason brian abandoned Smile

the real kicker is how much brian and the beatles loved each other. they had a mutual respect and adoration for each other's music, and they both used each other for creative inspiration. then fucking mike love goes on stage and makes it into a competition. fuck him

i know, brian was so happy and so nervous despite being such a big star
mike was always the outgoing one which made him a better frontman, but i think being the frontman got to his head and made him think he was the leader

I disagree. I think thats true for the Beatles with Mccartney and Lennon where their disagreements made them strive to outdo each other.
With the Beach Boys it seems more like disagreements just shut Brian down. Mike used to get the other band members to team up against Brian so he'd have to do what Mike asked.

I'm not a regular around here but got damn does Brian's sick dance moves in I Get Around get me off every time
youtube.com/watch?v=KnPL5OXSBNE

oh my god his little steering wheel move at 1:28 is so precious
i love this video, partially because it caused the greatest shred video ever to be made
youtube.com/watch?v=xYc4DT18EJg

Dennis is best Beach Boy

why were dennis and carl such manlets

they were probably about average height, brian was 6'3 and mike 6'0 so everyone else looked short in comparison

makes me sad that mike's giant oaf of a cousin beat the shit out of him with the beach boys bodyguard :(

just because you're average height doesn't mean you're not a manlet
