never understood the love for Mac DeMarco. If I wanted to listen to your usual acoustic singer/songwriter type of music I'd listen to Bob Dylan and Nick Drake and get better lyrics and overall better music. There isn't anything special in this. What the fuck is the point

the appeal to mac demarco is him making slacker pop. his riffs especially on 2 are very catchy and his lyrics are simple and accessible to any young adult.
bob dylan and nick are much more serious tone artist that not everybody wants to play all day.
his personality is another huge factor. to counteract the serious hipster who doesn't really communicate with his audience. if you go on youtube mac demarco has nothing but interviews of him being a laid back guy who doesn't get angry even when asked the same questions over n over.

I enjoy Mac's music and all but in no way should you accredit him with the same abilities as KV. Mac can make a fun and catchy song, but his style is redundant. Kurt Vile on the other hand, that guy is a truly talented guitarist who has way more than just a few fun tracks in him.
