Why the fuck are his documentaries so addicting?

Why the fuck are his documentaries so addicting?

I've been marathoning them for the last couple days, the way he smugly asks his questions is just so amusing in a very subtle way

The way he gently leads people to convict themselves out of their own mouths, whilst seeming somehow sympathetic to their insanity.

He stole his entire persona from Jon Ronson but isn't half as intelligent. That's why when he tried to write books like Ronson moved into, he failed and had to keep doing documentaries.

he's a terrible interviewer. he cares more about being non offensive than getting a reaction.

when those nazis asked if he was a jew he should have said yes to stir the pot.

when the gambler was insisting he wasn't addicted he should have straight up accused him of having a gambling addiction to see what would happen.

he plays the straight man too much the only time he meddled is in the pedo episode i think and that was some straight bullshit

I thought it was more interesting to see the Nazis get all tense and panicky over the mere possibility of him being a Jew. It would be offputting to see a documentarian be deceitful just to illicit a reaction. Louis is not Jewish.

I think if he were directly confrontational or condemning of behaviors people would shut down. It's not like I'm a huge Louis dickrider, but he gets people to open up with his non-threatenung approach.

How do I into Louis? I saw the Scientology trailer and it looked funny anything like that?

His weird weekends series is good.

The episode about black supremacists hooked me -- he is disdained by every person that he interviews and it's very interesting to watch him interview under that kind of scrutiny.

>addicting

It's addictive you Ameripleb

>america: the video

Congratulations on completely fucking misunderstanding him

>he cares more about being non offensive than getting a reaction.

But that's completely wrong you fucking moron. The reaction is everything he's looking for, every one of his interviews is led in such a way to try and get a particular reaction from the interviewee. What you seem to be too thick to understand though is that he tries to befriend these people, at least just enough that they will reveal their true selves to him. He tries to establish a level of trust.

>when those nazis asked if he was a jew he should have said yes to stir the pot.
>when the gambler was insisting he wasn't addicted he should have straight up accused him of having a gambling addiction to see what would happen.

If he did either of those things he would immediately destroy that trust which is so key to the success of his interviews. Christ you are a dumb fuck. Maybe you should stick to capeshit buddy

He's very good at getting people to open up in a really calm manner, a lot of the time it seems like people are getting things off their chest like they would to a therapist

Exactly. You put it better than I did. That's the whole purpose to his style and it's why this guy - - is completely wrong

Also:
He's not really being smug, although I suppose it can sometimes come across that way, he's just trying to be deadpan, keep his emotions to himself / close to his chest, perhaps be a bit standoffish. Which you could say is smug and people do criticise him for that, how he sort of uses these people, gains enough of their trust so they spill the beans, but won't let himself get too close to them, because they're just his subjects and he couldn't give a fuck about them.

So yeah I wouldn't say "smug". Standoffish, perhaps. But he can be pretty sympathetic with people a lot of the time.

confrontational interviewers are objectively better than straight man bullshit

it's comfy

>"Damn...I suppose I have to use...that..."
>"ETSU BATSU"

Are any of these on netflix?

>I don't care about the subject matter I just want to see people get mad about getting trolled! EPIC!

Fuck off

There was a parody of this posted here a while back, anyone remember the link?

atrocious idea, I hope you never work in TV

the fuck? no retard

We may have gone too far in some places.

It makes me upset, too. Some guy in this very thread responded to a post I made about the relationship between Louis Theroux and Jon Ronson, and he just told me to "Fuck off". Like, what? What?

UK netflix yes im sure

Dear god

Go back to watching Springer you mouth breathing plebeian shitcunt

He's a straight man who at the same time enables these people in their insane lifestyle choices.

He uses kindness and empathy to get people to open up about how fucked up their world is, and gets some honesty from people living these lifestyles.

It's interesting to watch. The Casino one is my favorite.

> dedededededededede

The daughter is going to live her life with only half the attention that she deserves and all of the stigma of having a brother that is that severely autistic. Feels like shit a little.

I don't hear the Casino one talked about that much but it's definitely one of the more depressing ones I've seen.

youtu.be/q5EcyUaZQrU?t=42m

>Spends probably $7,000 on slots
>Louis asks if he has a problem
>No
>Wins $5,000
>Look I won (With some depressing smile somehow trying to justify what he's doing)

It's too much man. I guess that's why I like it.

Because unlike most documentarians, he is completely unbiased, he just goes to a place where weird shit is going down, interviews people, and try's to make sense of it, he never jumps to conclusions or judges somebody prematurely.

Take the new-Nazi one for instance, he goes to Tom Metzgers house, and is super polite, he treats him like a human being, and let's Metzgers own words and beliefs speak for themselves, lets the viewer make their own assertions.

Whereas post Gavin McInnes Vice would have a lead up to the visit with the beta male hipster interviewer in his car being all like "Going to visit this fucking racist's house, how the fuck can people believe this in this day and age? What an asshole, can't wait to expose this kind of element that exists." Then the interview would be him grilling somebody as to how shitty their belief system is.

Louis is a true documentarian, he just shows it how he saw it without any agenda, his agenda is just documenting the strange aspects of the world and humanity, that's all.
