i have not liked a single song from this new project. sounds all too boring ironic pop.
this one is better tho

ugh

beer commercial tier ballad rock

disgusting

This one sounds more like a song than the last two songs released but it's still bad.
Ironic music never works.

Couldn't disagree more

well its time for u to elaborate buddy

I've tried to listen to FJM about ten times now and each time I go in anticipating a gruff old man crooning folk tunes and each time I am cock-slapped across the jaw by a nu-male cock rocker. Consistent disappointment.

lol

It seems like he's gotten too full of himself. Pure Comedy was overblown and the lyrics really weren't that good, and melodically it did absolutely nothing for me.

Part of his appeal, at least to me anyway, was that he could write unusual lyrics and also make banging songs, Honeybear was a great example, and Ideal Husband, and Strange Encounter.

I have a strange feel now that every song is Bored in The USA 2.0, with that "I wanna be cerebral and ironic" feeling.

Also, part of the appeal of ILYH was the unashamed sincerity of it, even though he's always cynical, that was an album dedicated to his wife and the love moments were absolutely sincere in a way that was really refreshing to hear.

Irony and political commentary gets tiring when used constantly.

he looks fresh as shit in this pic but his music is garbage

FJM has never grabbed me melodically on any of his albums and the new singles have not changed my opinion.

Really did not like Pure Comedy. The lyrics had too little structure. Felt more like a rant about "they suck/these people are dumb/the world is lame" that sort of vaguely carried a tune (and not an interesting tune either). I get he is """""ironic""""" or whatever so it's like a joke or something, but the joke isn't funny.

He brings up a lot of talking points in regards to current events but ultimately says nothing interesting about them.

I guess I just do not like FJM, but god dang it I have tried.

His last album was pretty good but I wasn't impressed by Pure Comedy so I'm not really looking forward to the new album.

Loved his last album quite a bit, so far for this one the title track is the only that has remotely grabbed me and that's only at the end when it actually begins to pick up.
this user is right, it feels like every song he's put out from this record is Bored in The USA 2.0 so far

hyped

I personally LOVE I love you honey bear but the singles he's released so far from Pure Comedy have been pretty boring IMO. They all kinda sound like Bored In The U.S.A.
That being said, the latest one is a bit better. I'm just hoping the singles are not the better songs of the album but that's usually always the case ):
J Tilman did a good job in his sophomore record but honestly I think that's gonna be it.

FJM is an industry sock puppet.

His whole fake rebel shtick is laughable.

Straight up propaganda agent.

This. CIA is setting him up to be the new (((voice of his generation))). Pretty obvious.

What the fuck are you guys talking about.

Even though i agree some of the singles so far are too similar, the bits from his 'film' and this new track are great, and im p hype for the album. im a big fan of the first two, but it took a while for ILYH to really take hold. im sure this one will settle in nicely eventually

*Yawns loudly*

Yep. FJM is about as anti-establishment as Madonna.

yes, and Kanye was simply suffering from....ugh....'dehydration'.

I can see their point in a way

If he gets bigger then newer fans might not even know that he's just doing a bit

Like how nu/pol/ are actually racist and not just memeing, they took the joke seriously and eventually took over the whole thing

In the words of Alan Bishop, "Never trust anyone in the music business, EVER."

Bingo

these songs aren't musically interesting and as far as content goes, I see more complicated stuff on my facebook feed

Pretty much. And especially don't trust anyone who is successful in the music industry.

>b-but FJM is on the top of every music website today because of talent

>FJM is an industry sock puppet.
>FJM is about as anti-establishment as Madonna.
>And especially don't trust anyone who is successful in the music industry.

These. People like FLM and St. Vincent and really all of the 'indie rock' community in 2017 are clowns. They're establishment liberals and propagandists.

people actually likes this guy? unironically? i can't see through the memes

No goy, he is a scruffy bohemian just like you. Listen to him goy.

I really can't get into Father John Misty, his only song that I like is Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings, because of the great music video.

youtube.https.co/watch?v=KtOToiIDNRA

gonna get a 9.3 from p4k

St. Vincent as of yet hasn't released any songs with a political message. Just because some artists talk about stuff on social media doesn't mean they're somehow CIA propaganda plants. They'd do better to use actually well known artists like people on the top 40.

You're so far detached from reality you're orbiting another plane of existence.

Father John Misty is Mumford & Sons tier

>2017
>top 40

Kek.

But make no mistake, they're industry controlled.

Musicians who actually know what's going on and talk real shit (Ian Svenious, Diamanda Galas, Mos Def et al.), I'll listen to.

lol, like it's a far out idea in 2017 that the media and entertainment industry are centrally controlled and colluded.

>They'd do better to use actually well known artists like people on the top 40.
they already got those kids on lock man PEOPLE STILL BUY THEIR MUSIC
IM DETACHED? I BEEN WARNING U PPL SINCE LAST YR. I TOLD U CLOWNS TRUMP WILL TAKE OVER AND RUIN AMERICA
BUT NOBODY LISTENED

Lots of anons in this thread are correct. His first album had some good ones, ILYHB was pretty overblown and great and sincere and likeable. But this new stuff, my god, it's so self satisfied it's actually embarrassing. I blushed listening to Pure Comedy, it's truly shameful. Dull melodies, lyrics regurgitated from college freshman dormrooms.

No you're full of shit. I wrote not you.

but sure:

>muh trump will ruin america

Oh no a musician doesn't agree with you. Welp, guess they're CIA/illuminati plants. That's definitely it.

*tips tinfoil fedora*

DENYING THE TRUTH
WAKE UP!
THE GLOBAL ELITES ARE TAKING OVER

It's not that they don't agree with me, it's that they GLARINGLY ignore what is really going on in the world.

It's feel good fake-leftist propaganda for intellectual lightweights.

Your boy FJM indirectly works for the REAL global elites dipshit.

Reminder: 'indie' label Sub Pop is owned by Warner Music Group.

NO U IDIOT
HE IS PART:o( OF THE GLOBAL ELITES"

could be.

Look into the character know as 'Beck Hansen'

>Beck Hansen'
shit

Being militantly liberal is not an uncommon belief system. Yes, you and I don't think it really fits well for what is currently going on in the world but it's just a case of people being stuck in their ways and naive and not a case of being CIA plants. I have plenty of friends who think the same way and musicians and other entertainers are just people like everyone else. And it would also be very inefficient to work through not very well known artists. Not that FJM or St. Vincent are obscure but there are a lot better artists to use for that purpose for maximum exposure. This is the same issue I have with people saying the devil works through metal bands with 20 listeners.

>Being militantly liberal is not an uncommon belief system.

Being militantly anything is uncommon, hence the qualifier 'militantly'.

>Not that FJM or St. Vincent are obscure but there are a lot better artists to use for that purpose for maximum exposure.

They are MAINSTREAM artists. Especially to people under the age of 25 or so who are the demographic they want to indoctrinate in to this type of fake-radical thinking.

The Madonnas and Green Days of the world have already completed their missions.

St. Vincent and FJM are nowhere near as popular as Madonna and Green Day were. I wish they were, St. Vincent at least, so I could talk about here in places other than Sup Forums, not that Sup Forums even talks about her outside of smear threads.

And by militant liberal I mean people who post shit about it on social media all the time and maybe do some protesting. A lot of my friends do that and I'm fairly certain they don't work for the CIA.

>lol, like it's a far out idea in 2017 that the media and entertainment industry are centrally controlled and colluded.
right?

Have you people not been paying attention for the last 18 months or so?

That FJM is on the top of p4k everyday tells me all I need to know.

>And by militant liberal I mean people who post shit about it on social media all the time and maybe do some protesting. A lot of my friends do that and I'm fairly certain they don't work for the CIA.
When your friends ideology and voice has the backing and platform of a major corporate media entity get back to me.

So if I'm a liberal, and I work my way up to being on a label that has some affiliation to a major label and I talk about liberal stuff on Twitter that makes me a plant? Do I get my CIA check at that point?

But user, you love being slapped across the face with a cock

Also Mos Def's 2006 album was released through Geffen records which is ultimately owned by Universal, so I guess he's a plant of some sort. He must not be good at his job though since you seem to think he isn't a plant.

No, the whole thing is corrupt.

Do you really believe it's just a coincidence that the entity of the music industry has basically one unified political stance?

Mos Def was just coincidentally detained in South Africa for pretty much the entirety of the election process.

They also attempted to bury his excellent new album:

xxlmag.com/news/2016/12/yasiin-bey-issues-statement-december-99th-album/

pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/22720-december-99th/

Now he's 'retiring'.

Mos talks real shit and is punished for it:

the reason is that most(not all) people who explore the arts are generally open minded humanist as human emotion is their muse. People who are in tune with other peoples emotions typically place someone else's emotions ahead of other things in life. that's my theory anyways.

you can bring your theory back to Alex Jones and stuff it up his fat lying ass.

Obviously a redirect. Him bring on a major label at some point shows he was brainwashed by the lizard people already.

Nigga please. You can't get a fucking condo board to all agree on one thing, but the entire entertainment industry is all of pretty much the same mind politically?

PUHleeze. Try and employ a little critical thinking.

In typical Sup Forums fashion, veered p much as far away from the music as possible.

And even more typical, I'll either get ignored or a "cuz the music sux" reply.

why don't you explain why its good!

There are many reasons it's good, but that's not really for me to convince others.

>There are many reasons it's good
go on

>every song is Bored in The USA 2.0, with that "I wanna be cerebral and ironic" feeling.
Spot-on. Bored in the USA itself isn't even that great compared to the other songs on the album, but it was political and it blew up.
The sincere stuff is always so much better. The Night Josh Tillman Came To Our Apartment is a gorgeous song.

I actually like this. Pure Comedy is half of a good song, the second single shouldn't have been a single, but this one is actually good. The lyricism is actually interesting rather than just edgy. I'm optimistic about Pure Comedy. It's a different approach for FJM, but that isn't a bad thing.

Also how is it that I can leave Sup Forums because there's nothing on there but shitty politics, go onto Sup Forums to find even shittier politics, and then go to Sup Forums to find shittier politics? Sup Forums is the new /r9k/ in terms of normalfag bait, it's attracting way too many retards to the site and it's turning every single board into libcucks vs. altretards.

>hates politics
>mentions them anyway
you are part of the problem dumbass

>(((voice of his generation)))
Pretty much. They're trying to set him up a like a kind of white Jay-Z. Sucks, because like Jay-Z he has genuine talent, but the whole charade is so gross and slimy it doesn't even qualify as music.

Fuck Hollywood.

The music industry equivalent to Shia Lebouf. Gasface.

>let me educate u guys on my thoughts on their shitty politics with more talks about politics

I'm not talking politics, I'm talking Sup Forums. You don't have to say disagree with Sup Forums to see that they've become the new face of Sup Forums like /r9k/ and Pepe were just little over a year ago, or how Sup Forums and Sup Forums were before that. They're therefor attracting new users, who think that this is how Sup Forums is, like how /r9k/ newfags thought that Sup Forums was about being a shut in NEET mastrbating to shitty porn all day, or how Sup Forums posters saw Sup Forums as a place to be autistic edgelords.

>i put this much thought on caring about what ppl do on an anime imageboard

I care when threads on almost every board get derailed left and right daily for even tangibly relating to the topic. How there are some artists that you straight up cannot discuss on Sup Forums because some faggot's gonna pop in sooner or later to bait the thread with a "black people are genetically inferior" meme.

The guy is a douchebag, he's just the solo Weezer, puts out a great album which is heartfelt and honest and then shits all over it

Fortunately I can disconnect the record from the man so I'll just keep enjoying that one album. Kind of wish Bored in the USA wasn't on it though, weak song

>lacking the mental capacity to ignore Sup Forums posts and post whats on your mind about the artist

Correct. FJM is fake news. Sad.

>nu-male

Hoo boy

I met FJM at a show in vancouver.

He hit on my gf and took off his wedding ring when tons of screaming hipster girls approached for a photo.

I feel bad for his wife lmao

Do any of you actually know what irony means? Could you please provide your definition of it?

The new songs are okay. Compositionally dull (almost neglected) and overly-verbal in a clunky way. The lyrics, however, are sincere. Humour does not signify intrinsic irony. A singer-songwriter writing in a fictitious voice is not intrinsically ironic.
