I had the privilege to have a teacher who actually included the Winter War in to our WW2 studies. But I didn't learn of the civil war and the rest of the history in the country until I personally looked it up.

Anyone can apply for hembygdsrätt after living on Åland for 5 years. All you have to prove is that you understand basic swedish when applying for it.

Never gonna happen. Unless you start cracking down on them hard, forcibly assimilating them using Skåne-tactics, the Swedish state won't do anything. If Ålanders ever want it hard enough they'll start with protests, electing reunification parties, maybe start with terrorism. Eventually they'll either pressure government into a referendum or hold an unofficial one. Then we'll just wait for internal and international pressure to force you to give it up.
