Hollywood Has a Big Problem: 2016 is on pace to be the worst year for movies—by tickets bought per U.S. adult—since before the 1920s.

They kept boasting about how much money they made last year and now apes are "stickin it to the man"

too much capeshit

Well, the volume of movies has increased but people's disposable income has decreased. This is not really even a cultural issue.

TV is hilariously enough BTFO film.
It's easy to watch from home whenever you want.

Because white people STILL HAVE NOT LEARNED THAT THEY ARE EVIL!!!
Once they do, sales should go back to normal.

NO ONE WANTS TO FUCKING WATCH UNINSPIRED REBOOTS

I stopped going to the movies when tickets started selling for $16 dollars or more

maybe they should start there

Apologize.

Shit movies and poor adaption to modern tech ie bitch about piracy and not looking at the faults in the system or just try and offer some system to steal some piracy numbers instead of making the movies shitter for non-pirates

Not enough diversity meaning African American males

Theater experience is way too low in general.

>Seats wear out
>Commercials are about 10 minutes
>Trailers repeat too much, why can't we get some indie sprinkled in there?
>Snowflake Generation (12-23) AND Gen X women (40+) are both insanely rude and selfish and makes going to movies a disgusting chore oftentimes as you have to get through seat kicking, talking to screen all movie long, cell phones, loud chewing, burrito wrapper noises
>Technology and access has exploded, 50" TV and high speed internet = movies for days
>Finally, quality of films is very low and boring, Hollywood got lazy AF and deservedly so has paid the price, admittedly Hwood had to do predictable things to make money predictably because budget inflation got retarded

Economic corruption in Hollywood is increasing while the quality of movies being made are decreasing.

There's so much fucking corruption as far as where money goes in Hollywood that movies now need to make 25 million dollars OVER their production-budget to even start to break even.

They're doing this at a time when Hollywood is getting lazier and lazier with how they make movies and what movies get greenlit.

Sony is a microcosm of this, if you need an endemic example.

This.

It used to be that movies had some kind of advantage over TV, i.e. more professional and talented writers, bigger budgets and better special effects.

While the quality of movies went down, the quality of TV went up, but the prices stayed the same.

Now we have TV shows like Game of Thrones and The Knick and The Man In The High Castle that look like movies, while we have movies like That's My Boy and Daddy's Home and Neighbors 2 that look worse than most TV shows, and are written worse as well.

Why spend $16 to see one terrible movie when you can spend that same amount of money to get three months of Netflix, and stay home while having access to a library of great shows you actually WANT to watch?

Its too fucking expensive. Ticket prices keep going up, especially with imax and 3D. Not to mention the ridiculous food pricing. People have better access to other movies they can stay in and watch

Tickets too expensive
Too much diversity/pc propaganda
Too much animated pixarshit; no adult is gonna watch that shit, except maybe the poor parent.

I can't speak for others, but when I speak for myself: the reason I don't buy tickets to or even think about going to the cinema is because the movies are shit.

And they have been shit for more than a decade. Some people may feel good about choosing between Ice Age 8, Iron Man 12, Batman 93..., but I find it lazy, boring, and not worth money.

i download yify camrips

star wars rogue one tickets are going to be like $35 a pop. I'm saving up for those

>Too much diversity/pc propaganda
>Too much animated pixarshit; no adult is gonna watch that shit, except maybe the poor parent

*tippy wippy fedora*

m'cuck

>The problem for Hollywood is that audiences are ignoring everything that isn’t a sequel, adaptation, or reboot.

They don't put anything else out, so that can't be true.

IMAX and 3D are such a shitty meme. Tickets in Los Angeles, one of the most expensive cities in the US, are $6.50 at a decent screen.

The movies just suck right now. Look at your local big name theaters current line up of movies. I honestly don't have any interest in a single one of them.

Some of my friends like the superhero stuff but it is just so uninteresting to me that I can't spend the money on those shit cash grab movies.

Why is this getting no responses? It's fucking true without any politics involved.

Prices are going up and wages aren't rising fast enough. Theaters are going to be the first to feel it, then concerts, sports, hell amusement parks have been expensive for years now.

We should have listened.

its kinda silly to think bread and circuses will be the first casualties of reduced spending power when bread and circuses are the only reason the west has functioned for as long as it has.

>release a ton of literal shit movies
>oy vey whys the goys not seein meh movies

uh

The primary target demographic (teenagers) would prefer to netflix and chill anyway.

I only pay to see movies made by Christopher Nolan

literally this

I don't know man. As a kid, going to amusement parks was less than half of what it costs now. Movies were about half, sport shit was cheap, and same for concerts. It's kinda scary how bad things have gotten.

Meanwhile Americans continue to focus more on the president than the actual issues.

if actual issues want to be the center of attention, then actual issues need to get themselves a marketing department.

>Now we have TV shows like Game of Thrones and The Knick and The Man In The High Castle that look like movies, while we have movies like That's My Boy and Daddy's Home and Neighbors 2 that look worse than most TV shows, and are written worse as well.
This. The simple truth is that the movies they make nowadays are unoriginal and boring. Doesn't help they always hire niggers all the time.

>who'll win the next election
>the human desire for popularity contests

This.

And candybars used to cost a nickel.

These tbqhfam.

Videogames

When there's nothing of substance to watch, then audiences looking for mindless flash can easily pick out the flashiest of the bunch and ignore the rest.

Posting on the internet about how shitty the movies are is more entertaining than the actual movies

Where the fuck do tickets cost 16 dollerinos?

When was the last time a movie featured an actually hot young chick, and not some ugly old bitch who used to be a hot young chick?

Megan Fox in TF1?
Shannon Elizabeth in American Pie?

Nowadays you have fucking dried up old woman Monica Belluci in bond movies and the increasingly aged ScarJo and born-looking-45 Liz Olsen in the Marvelshit, and the fucking flatchested xenomorph in Star Wars.

If hollywood wants to sell tickets it needs to get over its Sjew shit and remember that sex sells.

Gee I wonder why.

probably because the only movies that are marketed are capeshit and CGI kids flicks

Studios know that foreign box office is more important than getting adult americans.

>Iron Man 3 grossed $409 million in North America and $806.4 million in other countries for a worldwide total of $1.2 billion.
>Avengers: Age of Ultron grossed $459 million in North America and $946 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $1.405 billion
>Pacific Rim grossed $101.8 million in North America, and has had a favorable international release, grossing $309.2 million in other countries, for a worldwide total of $411,002,906.
>Frozen earned $400.7 million in North America, and an estimated $873.5 million in other countries, for a worldwide total of $1.274 billion

Foreign gross is usually twice as much as America for box office. Yes, studios get less of a percentage, but they're developing the market for future sequels and tie ins.

TV is now a writer's medium:

>Sorkin (WW, The Newsroom)
>Noah Hawley (Fargo)
>Pizzman (True Detective)
>David Chase
>Vince Gilligan
>Damon Lindelof
>weiner

And we have shows like

>The Americans
>The Leftovers
>The Knick

etc. I don't even bother with Hollywood anymore. TV is prestigious now.

We don't have any classically beautiful film stars anymore but I think Elizabeth Olsen, Mary Winstead, and Brie Larson are pretty cute.

Probably the hottest woman I can remember is Lea Seydoux in Spectre but one thing that happened was that movies got feminized so you aren't allowed to objectify women any more so we didn't get any erotic scenes that really captured her sexuality. Missed opportunity to get her in lingerie or a bikini.

Monica Belluci is fucking gorgeous. Don't even come at me with that shit. The rest you're right though.

It's crazy watching films from the 70s-80s-90s where the women are bombshells. ie Sharon stone in total recall.

Out of this world beauty used to be celebrated but now Hollywood shys away from it, or down plays a women's beauty.

People don't like the reality that they are average looking. Women, especially don't want to see these ethereal out-of-this-world beauties.

It's the singles policy

>go to the local kinó théatre
>buy crab legs, popcorn, and a propeller hat
>go to my seat and notice girls and a chad are giggling at me
>overhear the chad saying "look at this virgin" >girls laugh even harder
>finally can't take it anymore
>politely ask him to stop being such a meany
>he pulls down my pants and shows everyone my pee pee
>I turn red with anger but try to carry on watching anyway
>he then reports me to the security guard for being single
>the security guard throws me and my remaining snacks in the trash and escorts me out
>while I'm roaming the streets covered in trash I realize my propeller hat is gone

All this just to watch a movie

Torrents. You're all thieves.

Before kids watched tv and adults went to the movies.

Now it's reversed.

Well aren't you a special little snowflake

Yeah yeah grandpa. Every generation thinks the world is going to hell when they get passed 21.

They need to introduce a subscription system like Netflix on a large scale. My local cinema chain lets people visit unlimited movies for €20 per month, and damn does it work to get people to cinemas. I see like 3 movies per week.

RIP YiFY

>torrenting and illegal downloads are to blame! it's goddamn hackers!

pretty much this

I hope this means they get rid of their no singles policy

Auteur theory killed film.
TV got it right in understanding that who else would understand the vision of the show better than the person who wrote the script?

too many niggers in movies. way too many niggers

tickets are 5 dollars at amc in the morning.

>Nowadays you have fucking dried up old woman Monica Belluci in bond movies
12 year old pleb detected.

BABY MEN DONT WANT TO WATCH WOMEN AS THE STARS

MAN BABIES

MAN UP

makes me so happy to see shekel shufflers scrambling

They're doing quite well boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2016&p=.htm

This. Where i am they aren't quite that cheap but the first showing of the day has an early bird discount on top of matinee pricing. With the added benefit that the theaters are deserted at that hour. Bring some coffee in a thermos and get ready for a comfy theatrical experience as you lay across 3 seats.

Holy shit, that is much money.
Hollywood is so greed.

Shut the FUCK up

this and whoever mentioned the corruption in Hollywood, but of course those dingleberries are gonna point a finger at piracy

you gotta pay the main jews at least 100 mil to play pretend on camera, dont let the fact that toddlers and golden retrivers can do their jobs take away from how much these people deserve.

fucking goyum you better step in line.

Capeshit, forced diversity, remakes after remakes after remakes.

Yes.
If the film industry doesn't wake up and stop putting the power of a film in the hands of directors it's going to keep getting shit like Fantastic Four.

Relegating writers to the position of nobodies was a dumb decision, and TV has proven that already.

Actually, the article says the only movies people are watching are capeshit, adaptations, and remakes.

Movies got too expensive. We are at a point where most blockbusters needs to make 500-600 million $ to even break even.

With that kind of money invested people are afraid to leave everything to one guy's vision. They keep messing with them for more mainstream appeal or more diversity.

And I doubt it's going to stop.

You mean like Interstellar? Or The Martian? Or fucking Avatar?

Personally I stopped going when the cinema showers weren't segregated anymore.

US Market is drying up, Americans tired of Hollywood releasing everything late compared to the rest of the world, spoilers leak online and then Americans don't want to waste their money on sloppy seconds.
China will soon be the overlords of movies, expect a lot of CG with a flimsy plot in the next 10 years before Hollywood finally dies.

Exactly user.

>Exceptions break the rule

You kidding? The executives and producers didn't step in with that mess of Fantastic Four until Josh Trank completely threw it into the gutter while sitting in a tent by himself all day """directing""".

Obvious example of how directors are awarded too much power.

this
this
this
not this

niggers should make their own films desu senpai
instead of waiting for a jew director to cast them.
this

I've seen several movies in theatres this year. There's been plenty of fine kino available: Green Room, The Witch, Midnight Special, April and the Extraordinary World, Everybody Wants Some, The Nice Guys, etc. It's not my fault if plebs miss out.

People claim they stop going to movies because it's too expensive and nothing is that good anymore. The former is an acceptable reason, the latter is just delusional.

bump

If it wasn't for capeshit they would be making even less money.

WE NEED MORE MOVIES BASED IN MULTICULTURALISM, HOMOSEXUALITY, FEMINISISM AND NON-WHITE PEOPLE

Just look how whites don't buy tickets anymore this year. We need more so non-white cis people go more to the cinema as they should.

>Hollywood keeps pushing for diversity
>China hates niggers and especially in films if they're anything beyond a slapstick comedy sidekick

Something has got to give, either make great movies with only white/asian people or push on with diversity and watch as international markets stop watching movies.

Popstar bombed so I say fuck the mainstream audiences

Dude, this is like the first time a generation is starting a step back from the previous (gen x usually gets shoehorned with millenials).

If you've ever formally studied economics you'll realize we're in a pretty precarious position. It's not end of the world bad, but it's had a noticeable impact on well being.

Wages need to rise to compensate for inflation.

Dubs is right. The people don't want it so it doesn't sell. Hell, even places like NPR will cover Trump's antics more than the current economic climate.

Post tips for Hollywood to right itself

I think everyones a little right

>over saturated market full of endless and dull superhero films, sub par remakes, and 10m budgeted horror films
>wages have stagnated, going to the movie is usually 10 dollars usd per person, enough for a decent meal at a sit-down restaurant
>better alternativencontent creators available in some cases such as netflix, hulu and amazon prime

Make it cheaper to go to the theater. People only go because it is a cultural tradition not because it makes sense. There is absolutely no reason other than a chance to get seen and make money for a movie to be shown in a limited release theatrical run

It used to be that way because

1. Not everyone owned TVs
2. DVDs and VHS didn't exist

They need to stop being so arrogant or else they are going to go the way of blockbuster video

MAKE

BETTER

MOVIES

>Several follow-ups—including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Zoolander 2, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, The Divergent Series: Allegiant, Barbershop: The Next Cut, and Alice Through the Looking Glass—have “disappointed or flopped outright,”
Didn't the movies that these were all sequels to suck as well? Not surprising these didn't make money but I hardly think this represents any major trend.

Watched warcraft, that was pretty fun. But most of the shit I watch in the theater are meme movies and I don't see anything meme-worthy in the near future outside of le wacky madman movie

KILL

THE

JEWS

I cannot remember the last time there was something that I felt was a much watch. I went to some garbage years ago but that was just a social thing.

The formula is tired.

The Martian is an adaptation. As for Interstellar and Avatar, those were made by some of the most prominent directors working today with the edge of IMAX and, in Avatar's case, the recent resurgence of 3D.

what the fuck happened to yify anyway

shut down by cops?
