definitely Jordan for the USA
Ali is a close second, but Boxing is a dead sport these days (though it's funny how football hasn't produced a universally iconic figure yet despite being the most popular sport; I'd say Jim Brown is the closest, and that was 50 years ago)
...
England - David Beckham

>England - David Beckham
sporting icon he said, not professional celebrity
Mario andretti or lebron
Taufik Hidayat
There's no way Senna is a bigger icon than Pele or Ronaldo in Brazil.
>spain
Andrés iniesta
Schumacher or Beckenbauer
looking at how nobody cares about F1 here anymore it's probably Beckenbauer now
>forgeting ur country
But why? Is it because you don't have a driver winning everything?
nope
No, it went down in the 4 years of Vettel as well. I blame those faggots saying that car racing is bad for the environment.
It's between him, Nadal, Gasol and Indurain
So the cuckization of your country is really a matter of quite some time, huh...
Here, we've been gradually losing interest in F1 after Senna's death. We had sparks of interest when Barrichello and Massa had shots at winning the championship, but after the expected dissapointment, we risk losing the races on free TV, as we already lost the qualy sessions due to low ratings.
Vettel was still the most popular driver here and it went up a little the year Schumacher returned.
No one gives a fuck about Jim Brown
Jordan.
Ali is a legend in a dead sport, and nobody cares about baseball anymore.
>England
I feel like Charlton or Moore are the most popular. Beckham was insanely popular until he left for Madrid.
>Portugal
Tsunaldo
>Argentina
Maradona
>Brazil
Senna for sure
>Germany
Beckenbauer
>Italy
Maldini or Riva
>Canada
Gretzky
Japan : Ichiro
Philippines : Pacquiao
China: Yao Ming i guess
Korea: Video games lol
Is Schumacher mentally disabled for life now?
I don't think he's coming back.
Nobody knows, probably
Wales > Gareth Edwards not Bale.
Ireland > Brian O'Driscoll
Yes he is.
Pele is not even liked because he talks shit everytime and Ronaldo is right winger tranny fucker.
Brazil = Neymar Jr
...
Russia Dimitry Klokov
Korea Park Tae Wan
Netherlands Johan Cruijff
Probably him for Denmark
We have one for summer and one for winter.
Summer = Jari Litmanen
Winter = Teemu Selänne
Mika Hakkinen is your biggest
Kimi is probably more known
Italy Valentino Rossi
Hagi, no doubt about it
Who would be Norways?
Northug, Bjorndalen, Riise?
These
Johan Olav Koss
I wouldnt call him an icon, I think "icon" implies some popular craziness
Not a tough call for Greece, Pyrros Dimas and Nikos Galis are probably the most iconic athletes (weightlifting and basketball). The former is the most solid Olympic medalist, the latter takes credit for making basketball popular
Candidates for future generations: Spanoulis, Diamantidis, Papaloukas
No real iconic athletes for football, but if anyone ever asks, it would be Zagorakis and Karagounis
Same in France, nobody cares about F1 anymore. I remember 15 years ago we used to talk about it at school with my friends every monday.
I dont know if it's because the races became boring since there isnt much suspense about whos gonna win, but that was already the case with Schumacher.
Northern Ireland: George Best
Wales: Gareth Edwards
Scotland: Kenny Dalglish? Chris Hoy? when he retires I guess it will be Andy Murray anyway
Ireland: Brian O'Driscoll
Nope.
In Spain I would say Nadal or Indurain.
I dont get how in a country where football is so big and obsessed over, some dude driving a vehicle really fast is the sports icon.
>football hasn't produced a universally iconic figure
Tom Brady, dumbass
He is as known in the world as an average european player of a top team.
Perhaps less.
yeah, but this thread is about national sporting icons. everyone in America knows him as the GOAT
Here is Lewis Schwartz
Yep, I get your point.
Anyway I thought you consider Jordan as the greatest sportman. At least here in Spain (I guess in Europe as well) people consider Jordan as the best sportman of all history.
Brady is nowhere near Jordan-level ubiquity
England - Shearer
>Australia
Could also be Rod Laver. One of the most successful tennis players of all time.
>NI
George Best
>Sweden
Bjorn Berg
Eusébio ?
Poland - Adam Małysz
England- Paul Gascoigne.
He's this country epitomised.
It should be Bjorndalen, since he is the most winning Olympian ever, but since it's winter sports no one has heard of him
Norhug is an idiot and Riise is an ever bigger idiot.
So it's Solskjaer, he scored the winner in a CL final
