By a wide margin the worst decade for music in a very long time.
The only thing redeeming was the experimental music which was so far divorced from the sound of the 70s that it doesn't count and was basically created because people were so fed up with how shit the 1970s were.

The experimental stuff still helped define the decade whether or not people were listening to them. Also there are plenty of mainstream groups that put out their best material in the 70s including David Bowie, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin.
