Considering criterion is pretty much blockbuster
no

Do you really think a lot of people know about a japanese horror from the 70s?

Semi-Obscure, not widely known until in recent years when it gained a cult following thanks to the internet.

I mean normies don't know about it but it's Criterion so no.
Pretty good film though.

Not on this board, but none of my normie friends had heard of it around Halloween last year when I screened it for them. We got stoned and drunk and had a blast. I double-billed it with Suicide Club, which everyone pretty much hated.

>post yrw the cat rewinded in midair

Among normies, yes.
Among film buffs, not really. Maybe a little.

Even I know about it, so no.

How long until it becomes a meme for normalfags to watch and inevitably a "cult classic"?

Depends on the audience. Among your average joe? Of course. General movie buffs? Sure. Cinephiles and Sup Forums users? Not really.

you're waifu a shit, Melody is the one true waifu

That's not Kung-fu.

It has subtitles, so I wouldn't bet on it. Anime films only get a pass with normies because they're dubbed.

>not wanting a Japanese milf waifu

I remember a previous thread devolving into a shitshow because some idiot had a tantrum when this film was called obscure.

It's definitely obscure to your average person but not among people who are aware of Criterion.

Would you say this is the Japanese equivalent to Suspiria?

>all those shots of kung fu's legs in the latter half

How did they all turn out, what do they look like now?

hahaha whats an obscure film among film buffs just curious hahaha

...

looks like she hosts some kind of radio show now

I don't know. Some Harry Langdon stuff I guess.

Visually maybe (also the plot a bit), but Suspiria evokes real tension and suspense for pretty much the entire runtime. Hausu has a few scenes that could qualify as scary if you were in the right mood, but it's a much more light-hearted tone. Even the murder scenes are goofy.

Some obscure Soviet shit and a good portion of non-Hollywood silent stuff.
